We have already established that we disagree on what it is that a coach is paid to do. From our previous discussions, Lyman, it would seem you believe them to simply be required to tell players how to play the game of football, and then to command those players to do so on gameday. Based on those conversations, I don't actually think Urban's requirement to tell anyone about spousal abuse on his staff fits under his job description. And while I'm sure you're getting all upset reading that, I mean it - based on what you've told me a football coach's job is, I don't think this responsibility fits under that description; not as you've previously qualified it. If that's not the case, then I think we need to revisit our earlier discussions on the matter...

I think there is a difference between defending a coach and not just flat out condemning him before the case unfolds. I don't see post's here defending Meyer, but post's that are waiting for a verdict. If he's guilty... "Hang em High".

no but people don't or won't forget his past and track record.

I see both things happening, Will. One of them I understand and ultimately agree with (my "benefit of the doubt" statement regarding Meyer anticipating that this will ultimately come down to missing one piece of damning evidence, but having everything else well established). The other...

what was odd was a comment that if this WR coach was this bad and abusive to his ex-wife, he shouldn't be coaching kids? him being abusive to his wife and him being around kids are two different things. he may be a saint in the workplace but a SOB once he gets home. it's like the alcoholic who only drinks at home. no one knows his other side outside of the home. i doubt until this came up anyone knew the WR's coaches other side till 2009 and then 2015 when the shit hit the fan.

We've already agreed to disagree on what the role of a football coach is. Still waiting on your list of Urban's egregious behavior.

I didn't say that at all! I am saying that sports writers (especially today) tend to either (a) exaggerate details or (b) report rumors as facts. None of them are ever privy to all of the details or inside facts but they always connect their own dots and report THEIR conclusion as being factual. The bigger the target, the more clicks they can generate.

Would you not agree with that?

im sorry but yes you did. you said above that sports writers report rumors as facts and exaggerate details. u said what i posted about his dealings at UF were what he did in accordance to SF beat writers. "in accordance to the beat writers" is like saying they made it up. what i posted in the link HAPPENED AT UF. It wasn't per the writers. these events happened at UF under his watch. no writer made it up. it has nothing to do with being on the internet. it wasn't a rumor, it happened.

Why do these conversations always revert to Urban Meyer and the Florida/Ohio State programs... lets dig some shit up on any school in the NCAA and you will have a truck load of shit.

meyer is no saint and hasn't been for a long time. this latest incident is just another in his history of problems and cover-ups while head coach. this isn't the first blemish on his resume. it's been stained for a while. this isn't letting 1 incident ruined a HOF career. this is like the 10th one. maybe it's time people stopped praising this guy and really look into his career as it's damaged, tarnished and filled with bad events under his watch. he doesn't get the benefit of the doubt bc of his failure to act in past incidents in his past as head coach. he won't get a pass anymore. he can't run from this. he will probably be fired because of it. that's not hearsay, rumor or white lies. it's fact. he failed to act as head coach over a numerous amount of incidents in his current or past job. that's a fact he can't hide from. the victim in this latest case has photo proof of markings on her body her ex did to her. there are text messages going around from the victims to others around meyer's circle of people. only a matter of time till they all meet together.

1000000% true . difference is Will, they are not in the news at this moment. Meyer and OSU is.

Im an ND fan. Brian Kelly is a crumb. He's a shitty coach, a liar, a bad person, bad teacher and educator and i can't wait till he's out of South Bend. numerous events happened under his watch at ND, including academic fraud and a death of a student manager and still happened, but they were YESTERDAY'S news, not today's news. that's the difference in the Meyer story. Let something big happen next week and it goes to the second or third page of the newspaper.

There are numerous sources corroborating any and all stories of Meyer's improprieties during his time as a coach, specifically at UF. If you're going to call into question or claim falsehood of one source, it's because you're too lazy or willfully ignorant to go look up the numerous others. Believing reporting to be outright false just because it is reporting is dangerous and irresponsible. The proof is there. It literally takes a google search and a cursory glance at the first page of results. If you're going to deny, just know that it's not for lack of fact - it's for lack of care and effort.

That anyone is claiming reports of Meyer's history to be false... it's like I'm living in a different world. Fact is irrelevant, if it doesn't agree with you. Just unreal.

like Rick Pitino in hoops...if Nick Saban was taped slapping a girl or banging some cocktail waitress at Denny's - IT'S FRONT PAGE NEWS. Meyer is the flavor of the week today. he will be off the front pages soon enough.

100000000% right dline. these things happened. writers from whatever source or link didn't make them up.

There's the next in the typical excuse playbook.

No one has said that NCAA football programs are not without faults and violations. No one has said that Meyer is the only of the bunch worth criticizing. However, Meyer does lead the way. There are those who have done worse, and have been fired / removed from the industry altogether. Meyer, however, remains despite his significant, proven history. I think a whole lot of Ohio State fans have conveniently forgotten that Meyer didn't leave Florida for no reason - he left because he was about to be sanctioned. Instead, the program was sanctioned, and he had a heart attack / retired to spend time with his family.

No NCAA football program is without faults, and they should all be cleaned up. The whole system should be. Plenty is wrong. Meyer is just leading the way.
