Ben must see something really good in Rudolph. Ben is in the best shape of his career and he is talking about his contract not coming up for renegotiation. I believe we really have a good replacement for Ben and now he is worried he won’t be able to leave on his terms. I don’t think he will get another contract from the Steelers.
We hear this mantra all the time in June/July. Let's see him moving around in the preseason before we take that as being true. He's been more a lumbering oaf the last couple seasons compared to early on in his career.
@Gideon ; To that end, he worked with a personal trainer in the offseason while cutting carbs and sugars from his diet. “I feel better than I’ve felt in a long time,” he said. “I’m definitely lighter than I’ve been in the past 7-8 years. I feel great, my joints feel great.” Roethlisberger smiled and politely deferred when asked about his weight. “I don’t know how many years I have left, but I’m going to dedicate those last couple years to doing anything I can do, anything possible to give this team the best ‘me’ I can give them. I think it’s just smart.” Roethlisberger’s slimmer physique wasn’t lost on coach Mike Tomlin. “We always say physical conditioning precedes anything else,” Tomlin said. “When a guy shows up in great shape, that often times is the springboard for big-time play.” https://triblive.com/sports/steeler...erger-talks-contract-future-with-organization
About every 3 or 4 years we read how Ben has dedicated himself to physical conditioning. I guess 20M a year isn't enough to get that every year.
Will being in the best shape of his life make him a better game manager, particularly on 3rd down, and elect to simply move the sticks at crucial points in games instead of making lower percentage throws or home run balls?
My thoughts on this are that he seems to be concerned about Rudolph, I believe that this concern might just push him to his best season ever. Hopefully Rudolph lights it up big time this preseason to put more heat on Ben. I would love nothing better than to see Ben come out and throw for 5000 yards and 45 TDs.
Isn’t that what makes him the HOF QB he is...for example 4th down vs Jax and he throws an excellent ball to Bryant for a long TD...take the good w the bad
The team around him throughout his career will be the reason why he makes the hall. Ben Roethlisberger doesn't carry the Steelers. It's definitely the other way around.
Todd, without Ben we are still looking at 4 trophies in our case. The QB position has been our Achilles from the time Bradshaw retired till Ben was drafted. This team definitely needed Ben more than he needed them.
I think it takes a good QB and good players around him to have a successful team. A good defense helps the offense also.
The Packers took Aaron Rodgers with the 24th pick in the 2005 draft. Without Ben, maybe we take Aaron Rodgers and there are 8 trophies in our case.
I echo the frustration that I wish he would have been this committed to his personal fitness his entire career but fitness and quarterbacks is a tricky thing ... how much is too much, lean muscle mass being easier to tear, etc. However, not having the extra weight seems like common sense that it would have been a plus. Regardless, he looks great out there right now - very in shape. A very noticeable loss of weight in my opinion.
Correct beloved Techheart, maybe Ben goes to GB and wins 8, and perhaps Rodgers goes to Pittsburgh and wins none. And maybe if Cowher stuck around Ben wins more, Ben and hasn’t won any SBs with the teams Tomlin has built.
I have a feeling that Roethlisberger is going to have his best season of his career this year. Fitchner is saying this has been Ben’s best training camp since he has been coaching here (2007) and Ben is in the best shape of all those seasons. If this is what we had to do to get Ben more serious, we should have drafted his heir apparent replacement ten years ago.
