Where does the madness stop ?? We recycle everything. Why is this an issue ?? I think what's going to happen is that someone is going to start making straws out of paper again and that will be that. And once the tree hugging/dirt worshipers get the straws, they'll go after the plastic lids, then the cups themselves. Then what ???? The inmates are running the asylum.
Galvanized or stainless ??? Otherwise, it'll rust !!!!! And they will be a bit tough on your teeth when you try to chew on them.
Yeah, I hope they come for everything else. The sooner the better. Why are you against that changing? The lid from your coffee in the morning doesn't get recycled - it just goes in the trash. Why do you want it there? And to answer your question, this is an issue that is very serious, and very obvious - pollution is covering and destroying the planet. Less of it is a good thing.
I think the better questions are: Why the move from paper straws to plastic in the 1st place? So they could put a corrugated bend joint in it letting you drink from your straw without actually holding your drink? Why does anyone NEED to buy their coffee in the morning? Get up earlier and make your own! I'm sure there are more just as I'm sure if you keep asking why, sooner or later you will come to the conclusion that most polution is caused by lazy human beings.
You're 100% right, Lyman. Lazy is exactly it. The effort to be less lazy and start making up for our mistakes is an easy one, though. We can do it. The only exception to this would be for people who need more pliable instruments, such as the handicapped. If you need a bendable plastic straw due to a physical limitation, I'm torn between the solution of having one with you (given that you wouldn't be able to easily access it and apply it for use), or having businesses still carry limited quantities of these implements available upon specific request. I will also say, I have handicaps, and I deal with them knowing that there are parts of the world closed off to me, inherently. So there will be situations where those who are suffering might just have to keep doing it. It sounds awful, but it's the reality for most of us. I just think this is a simple enough one to solve to prevent both pollution and exclusion of specific, exceptional needs.
The hell it doesn't. I'm required to separate my trash from my recyclables. So are the businesses. And further more. You people wanted all of us to do away with ALL paper products. Straws, cups, plates, shopping bags at the grocery store, etc. "USE PLASTIC" you said. It can be recycled, you said. Using paper kills all the trees, you said. Now, all these years later, you say that plastic is evil. Make up your mind !!!!! And oh yeah. We recycle paper too !!!!
Look in the garbage receptacles in any large US city. Unfiltered (non-separated) garbage, including recyclables. In NYC, there are large swathes of Asian immigrants that show up in vans (typically in the middle of the night), and collect recyclables because the WM companies don’t give two fucks whether you and I recycle or not and the “Jawas” collect that shit into gigantic bags (usually plastic) and a cargo van/truck comes by and hauls away the bounty. This happens all-year round too. Again, the immigrants doing USEFUL shit jobs that “regular Americans” are too proud to do. I make a conscious effort to not use plastic, it is unavoidable 100% of the time, but I do try. I make and carry my own coffee. I use Pyrex/glassware (plastic lids unfortunately) instead of Tupperware. I HAPPILY recycle at home and I never litter. I’ll carry little bits of paper until I find a garbage can. I normally carry a backpack too, I can put garbage in that until a proper receptacle is available.
