Who is your RB in this scenario? It's more likely LVB is disruptive to the opposing defense than the mismatch Hopkins can cause, especially with J2S2 and Washington on the team. You'd overkill on WR with a severe RB deficit, unless you feel that you've got that O-line that can make any RB a LeVeon Bell. I'll pass on that one.

Todd Gurley just proved a Running back can get PAID in this league. Lev Bell is going to be asking for that kind of contract and the Steelers will not give it to him. Just wave goodbye after this season is over.
Gurley did not get paid any better than Leveon was offered. We'll see on the 45M guarantee ... and I won't believe it til I see it as structured throughout the full 6 years . 2017 Gurley had more rush yards on fewer attempts, more receiving yards and more TD's. HE was the best back in the NFL last year and deserved a lucrative contract the likes of which LB turned down. Gurley has nearly no injury history (14 games missed by LB/injury) and no suspensions (5 games LB). Also, LB is 27 and Gurley 24 with far less tread on the tires ... Gurley had a couple of things fall in his favor too. A lot of cap room for the Rams to operate in and a young team all around to grow with. The Rams are an up and coming team and Gurley just hit a home run (as LB could have) in regards to being paid fairly (per his perceived personal worth) and staying within a system he is familiar with and has every reason to believe they'll (the Rams) compete for that SB finish, together as their brotherhood, with team mates he justified with their trust as continued team mates. He gets his cake and eats it too. Bell left all that on the table ... "and ppl thought I was trippin" ... You really are if you think money will replace trust, honor, camaraderie and the brotherhood that has been entrusted to you by your teammates and exceedingly patient FO.
This is correct. He actually got less. His 60M extension was added to his two remaining years under contract creating a 6yr, 72M deal. When he sat down at the table with the Rams and his management team he didn't sign a contract that said 4yrs, 60. He signed one that said 6yrs, 72M. But for marketing purposes they only like to report the new money added and then they divide by years added. Seems dumb to me but that's how they do it. Doesn't change the fact that Gurley is playing for 12M per season.
It also doesnt change that he is getting $45 mil in garuenteed and lev was only getting $10 mil garuenteed. That is something the Steelers don't do. It is also something the Steelers won't do if you listen to Ed Buchette, Jim Colony, and Mark Kaboly.
Like everyone else at this particular vantage point, I want to see what TGs guaranteed money is. If it truly is $45M...well, I can just imagine the tap-dancing spectacle that will erupt around here. If it is less than $45M, I will concede and admit I was wrong. Even though there is a wide range from $10M-$44M which makes the odds on my call a long shot, I don’t think I’m wrong on this one. We. Will. See.
I’m not comparing them. I’m pointing out that you stated you doubt TG is getting $45M in guaranteed money. You’re also doubting that Pittsburgh only offered $10M in guaranteed money to Bell (per LVB). I’m saying due to the long bridge/gap in the numbers, my call is a longshot. Looks to be a slam dunk for you since you have quite a bit of flexibility to have your point nailed down within a $35M span. Relax, you’re in the catbird seat. I could be wrong... I could be right.
I understand that the Steelers and the Rams are in completely different circumstances regarding available money, but teams that WANT to get a deal done, finds a way to get it done. Another obvious difference: one team competes for a Super Bowl year in and year out, while the one with more cash... doesn’t. My point is the Steelers obviously have a de-valued view on the position solely based on the very fact that Bell is a Top-5 RB and the team would not go the extra yard/mile (whatever) to secure that player to the team. Bell in particular isn’t the end all here but if I’m an up and coming RB with a trajectory to the NFL, I’d start to view Pittsburgh in a not so positive light when it comes to my perception of the team’s perspective of the running back position. As a young RB, I’d most certainly keep my eye on that. Nonetheless, the price of RBs in the NFL will continue to go up. Pittsburgh had a chance to dictate AND secure a valuable asset and they passed on it. I’m still VERY interested to see how the TG/LVB guaranteed money shakes out to get a clearer picture on that aspect. Personally, I think the Steelers fucked up. So, what RB do we draft next year?
I just don't think it's fair to say they undervalue the position. Had AB and Ben both declined their extensions because the Steelers only guaranteed the first year of the contract it wouldn't be because of the position they play. It would be because that's how they do business. Right or wrong the Steelers approach things differently than most of the NFL. They don't guarantee more than the first year of a contract, they don't offer extensions with more than one year remaining on a contract (unless it's a QB) and they don't negotiate once the season begins. The majority of the time they are still able to do business with their own guys and get people signed. Bell was the exception. He wasn't willing to accept those terms. Maybe he made a good decision. Maybe he didn't. p.s. Give Conner a chance.
Gurley's newest numbers ... hot off the presses... 1. Signing bonus: $21 million. 2. 2018 base salary: $950,000, fully guaranteed. 3. 2019 base salary: $5 million, guaranteed for injury at signing and fully guaranteed on the third day of the 2019 league year. 4. 2020 roster bonus due on third day of 2020 league year: $7.55 million, guaranteed for injury at signing and fully guaranteed on the third day of the 2019 league year. 5. 2020 salary: $5.5 million, guaranteed for injury at signing and fully guaranteed on the third day of the 2020 league year. 6. 2021 roster bonus due on the third day of 2021 league year or when the first game, whichever is earlier: $5 million, guaranteed for injury at signing and fully guaranteed on the third day of the 2020 league year. 7. 2021 salary: $4 million. 8. 2022 roster bonus, due on the third day of the 2022 league year: $1 million. 9. 2022 training camp reporting bonus: $4 million. 10. 2022 salary: $5 million. 11. 2023 roster bonus, due on the third day of the 2023 league year: $1 million. 12. 2023 training camp reporting bonus: $4 million. 13. 2023 salary: $5.449 million. 14. 2023 escalator: Up to $2.5 million based on individual and team performance. https://www.steelersdepot.com/2018/07/new-contract-numbers-for-rams-rb-todd-gurley-have-surfaced/ "I asked Joel Corry of CBS Sports about the full guarantees of Gurley’s extension and he confirmed to me that technically only $21.95 million of the deal is FULLY guaranteed" for those of you scoring at home. Articles writer quotes Joel Corry as saying LB did the right thing on turning down the contract, but for monetary reasons only... he makes $26M on tags in 2017/2018 and will recoup Gurley's deal as well in 2019. He also states the numbers for Gurley this year are not advancing LB's offering from the Steelers. It's always been about the money. Everything else he said about team, camaraderie, going to war with my guys, wanting to retire a Steeler, me and my family always been Steeler fans ... all horse shit... you see, if you can that easily lie to my face then don't let the door hit you on the way out, I'd rather feel foolish for believing what I wanted to w/o you reminding me who you really are for another season. I so wish the FO would have tagged him early in the year for two #1 picks ... yeah, yeah, I know, he's a great RB ... I just can't stand the sight of him right now.
Everyone shedding tears over Bell being gone next year should remember that we last won a Super Bowl with Fast Willie Parker as our starting back.
