Pretty sure you are grandfathered in Lym. :vik:

He is, but as a professional, if that is your game plan then you have a seriously flawed game plan. Also, unless they're trotting out 3 WR, 1 TE, 1 RB ALL named Hopkins this is an issue. I wasn't just speaking to Hopkins ability to go the ball though. Watson made DB's show why they're not receivers at a steady rate by just completely missing his guy.

In all fairness, could have been a bad route, but for it to happen as often as it did would lead me to believe otherwise.

the 400 yd game was only possible because of the 3 interceptions.

His stat line against Cleveland would worry me. 17/29, 225, 3/1.

He DID put up some good numbers, but wasn't able to stay on the field. Also, I don't think PFF was grading upside, as they were grading actual performance. I think having an avg to slightly above average QB for a whole season > having Watson "take the league by storm" but only win 3/7 games then going to Tom Savage.

His last 2 games after there was tape of him as a pro he sure did slow down, especially against decent Ds. Last 2 games v Cinci and Jax he was 57% completion with 227 yds TOTAL, 1/1.

    PFF doesn't measure "upside".

  5. I've read on how they made their system and I don't have problems with how they make the ranks. I've just seen times where I really think they're off. Did you ever follow the Athlon's preseason rankings or player write ups? They were really good for a long time.

  6. Do they take into account the player they are lining up against or not?

  7. There are still things that you can see anyways but you're mostly right. I guess there is nothing better out there.

The folks who come at PFF.com are no more qualified to judge a player (or a player's rating tool) than you or I, @davidhalton. They disagree with PFF.com not because they know more, but because they simply don't like where Player X was rated.

30 of 32 (at last count) NFL teams use PFF.com.

Their majority owner (Cris Colinsworth) is a former player and analyst - infinitely more qualified to judge NFL player performance than any of us are. He defends the tool against all criticism.

I'll try to dig up the article, but he (Colinsworth) talks about showing the process to coaches and executives, who're of course skeptical, but who come away impressed - or at least impressed enough to invest in their services. Chip Kelly was such a fan he allegedly bought into the company back when he was a coach.

If I were a GM or scout I'd use PFF as a supplemental tool as well. That doesn't mean it's the end all be all. Because it's not. This is a really good article on that subject...

  10. Hmmm I think I just said point #2 can be too hard to tell unless your on the team or a coach

PFF is something you use to help decide what players you want to take a deeper look at. You can’t use it to make a decision on a player.

I"m always amazed when PFF gives their grades out prior to the All-22 being released. How is that possible?

  13. Carolina gave up 3 pts therefore Luechly had a 95 score...Philly scored 38 and Agholar had 8 rec 125 yds and 1 TD he played great...93...how did I do?

Not that I'm not bored with this conversation....COME ON FOOTBALL, GET HERE!!....But..

PFF initial grades are just what any other subscription service is, trying to be the first to market. The first ones out aren't meaningless, however, they are updated as they use more resources to tweak their grades, including going through the all-22 tape.

Some are so obvious, anyone, even you stopper (or I), could come up with a reasonable grade... When you are talking about 1,472 players in a week, well...That is where you (or I) will fall short.

Not to mention, you can have two receivers, Player A has 8 catches for 126 yards and two TDs, Player B has 7 catches for 137 yards and two TDs. Who has a higher grade? That is the criteria you used above to get to YOUR score...

    Player A - 94
    Player B - 87

    What YOU didn't score above...Player A had 5 1st downs on 8 catches and 9 targets.
    Player B had 2 1st downs on 7 catches, 15 targets and 2 drops.

Oh...and I STILL didn't use all the criteria they use for an evaluation...

  16. My point above was all assumptions...hey Carolina only gave up 3 pts so their best defensive player must have had a good game

its like trying to cut a brick with a butter knife sometimes.

Brace yourself for the "catch radius is completely subjective" argument, I'm sure it's going to come from somebody.

Hey! Remember when our favorite Browns-basher teamed up with some Steelers posters to trash a third-party analytics-based website because they personally disagreed with their objective player ratings and then Bears posters were so miserable in their daily lives because their franchise is a dumpster fire that they came over and tried to stir up trouble on the Browns' boards and the site Admin. had to release a memo to all parties?

    Ahh... good times.

When does training camp start again?
