Can they work around both Ben's deal and Bell's? If they get Ben on a deal that pushes money and give them an opportunity to cut him without a huge penalty at anythime then I think they could get a deal done with Bell. I would guess 5 years at the 11 million mark with a bunch of it guaranteed.
His franchise tag is 14.3 million, which means that his yearly average has start at least at that figure. The Steelers are already offering more than the 11 you listed.
The Steelers already offered Bell $13 million a year and he turned it down. I thought they were crazy offering that much. $11 million seams fair but there is no way he would take that.
Tomlin and Big Ben liking Conner's conditioning this year and likening him to Bell. This could be special year if so.
I actually let myself imagine they would work out a deal at some point this weekend. Not sure why, I guess it's the fan in me. Now I'm imagining a stud inside linebacker coming free over the next 6 weeks and the Steelers rescinding Bell's tag to sign him. It'll never happen because the Steelers know the other 52 players are watching but it's still fun to think about.
"Now I'm imagining a stud inside linebacker coming free over the next 6 weeks and the Steelers rescinding Bell's tag to sign him" Best of all worlds, but I'm sure, no matter how much sense this makes (to me) ... it'll never happen because there are 52 others on this team. Bad juju and I don't mean J2S2 ... beach, ... anyone ... what has to happen, if anything can happen, for us to get something out of this pkrhd's decision. A draft pick? what ...
I he signs a big deal I believe the team will get a 3rd round 2020 comp pick. Beach would have a better idea though
14 million a year? And that wasn’t good enough? I really don’t think he’ll get much higher than that on the open market
Wow, how much does he think he is worth after suspension and attitude? Apparently more than 14 million per year. Sad shit for Steeler fans.
The issue was apparently the guarantees. He would have gotten $45M in 3 years, or cut before year 3 with minimal dead cap, and never seen his 4th season. This way he gets the tag and can easily get at least 2 years elsewhere for closer to what he wants. It's actually the right move considering his stance beforehand.
He's about the money right now. Even if he holds out and gets a 2-3 year deal in the offseason with a new team he will likely get more than what the Steelers offered in terms of actual money.
This harms the team, see TO and his legacy. I always liked the way Pitt rewarded their players and got them to play together. Me 1st is the present mantra.
I disagree. I would like to do this peacefully. Bell is just a running back. 14 Mil for 1 year would be fine, they burn out quick. He was offered some term. I really don't get his stance in this.
The NFL is a business first and foremost. There is a reason there is a union, holdouts, strikes and lockouts. Don't be fooled.
