Adonis Alexander, CB, Virginia Tech: In a league where it's hard to find 6-foot corners with solid cover skills and tackling ability, scouts will give a big corner with a few off-field blemishes plenty of chances to prove his worth as a pro. That's one of the reasons why Alexander is likely to come off the board as a mid-round selection in this year's supplemental draft. Looking at his game on tape, it is easy to fall in love with his size, length and press-man skills. Alexander smothers receivers at the line of scrimmage with his aggressive shadow technique, while also displaying good instincts and ball skills. He routinely pins receivers to the sideline with the ball in the air to minimize the target area for the quarterback on downfield throws. In addition, Alexander will use his superior length to swat away 50-50 balls in critical situations.

From a critical standpoint, Alexander's game is still a work in progress, with the young corner needing to refine his footwork and technique in press and off coverage. He is a straight-line athlete without the movement skills or change-of-direction ability to execute head whips or speed turns in coverage. Alexander's shady footwork gets exposed against big-time wide receivers (see: last season's West Virginia game), which leads to concerns about his potential to grow into a CB1 or CB2 as a pro. Considering the off-field problems (academic ineligibility and a marijuana arrest) and the so-so pro day (clocked 40 times in the high-4.5/low-4.6 range with a 35.5-inch vertical leap, 10-4 broad jump, 4.38 20-yard shuttle and 7.18 three-cone drill), Alexander's stock will take a tumble from early 2019 draft estimates that once pegged him as a possible top-50 selection. That said, he should be selected in the third round by a team looking for a Richard Sherman type on the perimeter. (NFL.com)

Marcel Dareus is sued for sexual assault

The quiet time recently has gotten particularly unquiet, when it comes to allegations of off-field misconduct.

According to News4Jax.com, Jaguars defensive tackle Marcel Dareus has been sued for sexual assault, and for exposing the unnamed plaintiff to a sexually-transmitted disease.

The lawsuit claims that Dareus had sex with the plaintiff “while she was unconscious and therefore without her consent,” and that in a later consensual encounter, Dareus allegedly failed to disclose that he has herpes.

The alleged incidents occurred in Houston in early April. It’s unclear whether a criminal complaint has been filed. Dareus is subject to NFL scrutiny under the Personal Conduct Policy regardless of whether criminal charges are pursued. (PFT)

Only exception, if it's a heirloom of some type then return the thing. Legally you don't have to but you give that stuff back.

Not much of a case for rape since they had a later consensual encounter. If there is no evidence then there just is nothing there. As for the herpes, that's a different story.

Browns try out CFL defensive back Jordan Holland...

The Browns opted not to pick a player in Wednesday's supplemental draft, but they aren't done finessing the roster.

NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported that Cleveland spent the day working out former CFL defensive back Jordan Holland, according to a source.

Holland most recently spent time with the Edmonton Eskimos and is the son of 49ers aide Johnny Holland, who served as Browns linebackers coach under defensive coordinator Ray Horton in 2016. The younger Holland is familiar with Cleveland, having played with the Arena Football League's Gladiators in 2017, recording six tackles and one interception in his time there.

Holland, 23, is a 5-foot-10, 190-pound cover man who played his college ball at Prairie View A&M before going undrafted.

The Browns have overhauled their secondary this offseason, drafting cornerback Denzel Ward in the first round, signing E.J. Gaines and Justin Currie and trading for safety Damarious Randall. (NFL.com)

Report: NFL talking to Georgia authorities, Delicia Cordon’s lawyer

The NFL is indeed investigating the allegations against Bills running back LeSean McCoy.

According to Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports, the NFL’s domestic violence investigators have begun communications with both the Milton (Ga.) Police Department and Delicia Cordon’s attorneys regarding the not-so-subtle suggestion that McCoy arranged the brutal attack on Cordon. It’s not a surprise given the league’s recent history in cases of this nature, and it underscores the nature of the potential problems McCoy currently faces.

Regardless of whether the authorities decide to pursue criminal charges under the ultra-high standard of proof beyond a reasonable doubt, the league can impose punishment under a much, much lower threshold. And if Cordon, who likely will be very motivated to obtain justice for the injuries she sustained, is willing to cooperate fully with the NFL, McCoy’s discipline may hinge on the relative credibility of Cordon and her witnesses and McCoy and his witnesses.

Then there’s the issue of electronic evidence. If it turns out that this was some sort of Fargo-style caper gone haywire, with McCoy hiring someone to enter his house to recover jewelry he bought for Cordon, McCoy may have sent text message or email messages regarding the plan. Which means that the NFL, which suspended Tom Brady for electronic evidence irregularities in connection with the amount of air in footballs, should swoop in quickly and demand all digital proof in McCoy’s possession.

And if McCoy is indeed innocent, his new lawyer probably should encourage McCoy to act that way. Instead of simply calling the allegations false, McCoy should be loud and indignant that a house he owns was robbed, that jewelry he purchased was stolen, that a woman with whom he had been in relationship was brutally attacked, and that her lawyers are suggesting he orchestrated it.

The absence of that kind of reaction from McCoy doesn’t make him guilty, but it definitely makes an unusual situation even more bizarre. (PFT)

Multiple witnesses can’t identify Kellen Winslow as their attacker

The preliminary hearing has commenced in the criminal case against former NFL tight end Kellen Winslow II. As explained by FOX 5 in San Diego, the prosecution may have a problem.

Three of the unnamed witnesses who allegedly had interactions with Winslow under suspicious and/or criminal circumstances could not identify him in court.

Jane Doe 3, a 58-year-old woman, said that a man named “David” entered her property and “dropped his shorts and exposed himself.” However, she could not identify Winslow as the man who committed those acts.

71-year-old Jane Doe 4 heard about Winslow’s arrest while watching the news on TV in early June, and she thought he was the same man who had entered her home a day earlier. She could not confirm in court, however, that Winslow was the man she saw in her home.

Jane Doe 1, a 54-year-old transient, was lured into a Hummer and raped in March. However, she too could not positively identify Winslow as the assailant while testifying in court.

(Coincidentally (or not), the Kellen Winslow who appeared in court on Wednesday doesn’t look much like the Kellen Winslow we’ve become accustomed to seeing over the years. Instead, he looks more like Steve Urkel.)

Another woman who allegedly was raped by Winslow is expected to testify in court on Thursday. If she can’t identify Winslow, it could be difficult for the prosecution to convince the presiding judge that enough evidence exists to justify taking the case to trial. If the victims are unable to identify the attacker at trial, it will be difficult to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. (PFT)

    I disagree 100%

Obviously there are situations where a relationship had these types of encounters and it IS consentual, however someone that is being manipulated into concession for his use is not ok.

A wife can be raped.. I know there are some that think, if she says yes to marriage then thean owns her AND her body..but I don't think that is true at all.

Same with women in abusive relationships, they might have sexual encounters after being abused, simply because they aren't strong enough to remove themselves from the situation.

I don't know that's the case here, not saying it is...just don't jump to conclusions.

Good call on marital/domestic rape. If you didn’t go there, I was gearing up for it.

The way I read Joe's tweet was that it would be difficult to build a case because of the consensual sex after the fact.

I don't think he was making any kind of statement about whether or not there could be rape in a relationship where consensual sex was present.

I took Irish’s response as a point of observation more than a criticism... in case others didn’t think about it.
