says the guy that has made a mountain out of a mole hill with this ridiculous debate/built in cap excuse and has never even heard of the jock tax until an hour ago.

This is like working as a carpenter out of state for a week. You do not file NY state taxes if your from Podunk. You just claim revenue from another state.

And even that I am skeptical about, because you are paid from a home office.

Can you grasp the distinction between
    - taxes matter and can give teams in some states an advantage, and
    - that it is a major benefit.

State tax rates vary greatly but no state has a 20% rate (Federal taxes apply to everyone working in the USA). No state is close to a 20% rate. They would have to be greater than 20% to make your examples valid.

Your "facts" are not true. That's a fact.

Maroon is a St. Louis native also...

Not too shabby. Get some defensive production and goaltending.... they will compete.

this has been the base of this argument today.
    lets not forget that.

$9.5 in TB = $12 "on any other team"
not true on the teams on the opposite end of the spectrum and nowhere near true for the league median.

and this is why I do my own research instead of listening to someone that just says it, because he believes it to be that way.

Then take it up with cap friendly calculator. Playing San Jose is a lot more expensive than playing for tampa.

Florida being a tax-free state helped them get a good deal with stamkos, hedman and kucherov.

You can deny it all you want.

Kopitar pays 13.3% state tax to california, over $1.7M. They don't count the games he plays in florida and texas and exempt him from state taxes.

    Proof

and this is the biggest discrepency
but cap friendly isnt complaining about this and exaggerating the truth on repeat.

you seem to leave out the fact that TB has a great roster built up from the inside and only assume theyre good because they can save a little money. all the players you mentioned were homegrown and probably want to win together. its not only because its Florida. hell, look at teams across all sports in Fla, how's that working for them?

Not true, tampa is a good organization and it makes players want to play there. The issue is the way they're able to manipulate the cap, they're able to get their players to play for a lower number without really missing out over a player playing in LA or NY for more dough.

Anyone in california, new york, canada.detroit.

  15. mattymcgee55 Legend Patriots Bruins

whats not true is the value you place on the slight advantage some teams have.

  16. skinny123 Guest

Anyways, at minimum just to match tampa, an offer from the kings or rangers would have to be around $11.1M.

  17. skinny123 Guest

Steve Y is the only gm that's been smart enough to use it to his advantage.

  18. mattymcgee55 Legend Patriots Bruins

simply not true at all. the biggest discrepancy is about $1.5m and the league average is less than $500k, without taking in to account jock tax of course.

What are the state/provincial tax rates in the jurisdictions you cite? Take an actual calculator - not a disreputable one - and calculate the net pay one receives for a $12MM salary.

It's simple math. The truth decimates your argument.
