That's $12M on any other team

Can you support your math? It suggests state taxes >20%.

I've already posted the taxes that the players are subjected to in each state, I even posted a caculator.

I clicked on that link for the first time just now, in going back to look it up. Got a "404 - Nonexistent" result.

Can you provide anything else? I'm also interested in where you got that number. The difference between $9.5 and $12 million is not Florida State tax.

Its not florida, it's california, new york, ontario. Also trump didn't lower taxes much in california(they hate him). If you play for the rangers you also pay a city tax, and the tax cuts didn't effect new york much either.

Regardless, florida is a tax-free state.

I have no idea what point you're trying to make, here. I'll restate:

"I clicked on that link for the first time just now, in going back to look it up. Got a "404 - Nonexistent" result.

Also, Florida isn't "tax-free". If you mean that you don't pay State Income Tax here, then you're right. But let's make sure to parse out one statement from the next.

Yes, tax free state, you have to earn considerably more playing for a california team for equal take home pay of a florida team.

My point is that tampa is able to retain their players for cheaper than other teams and have an easier time not losing them to free agency.
They end up with more cap space after it's all said and done.

The money obviously isn’t that significant, $12.5 to 9.

Not to mention you pay taxes in the place the games are held. Teams like the Leafs and Bruins pay local income tax on 41 games and actually enjoy the Fla tax benefit for 8 away games. Iirc that calculator was wrong and didn’t take this in to account.

If we’re looking for excuses for cap issues the Pacific teams have more an issue to bitch.

To make $5.781M in Tampa after tax, you have to earn $9.5M.

To make $5.8M in San Jose after tax, you have to earn $12,150,000.

I've never heard that you have different tax brackets according to where the game is played. You employer is based in a certain state, you get paid from that employer and pay taxes according to where your employer is located.

Unless the state taxes are 20%+ then the calculator is wrong if it leads to your conclusion.

    Most of which is federal

This is not a true statement.

There might not be a big difference between $12 and $9.5 for one player, but when you're talking about three players, it makes a difference, that's $10M of extra cap space.

Federal is absolutely a moot point with regard to this discussion. It is the same tax schedule for every single professional athlete playing in the USA.

That's the take home, federal and state.
