I agree that Denver is probably happy to have Chubb, but they were definitely in the market to take Ward and if Chubb was already off the board, the Broncos had a high probability of taking Denzel.
I dont know what I'm talking about.....well when Miller and Chubb are getting double digit sacks you will see what I'm talking about
Not arguing that....if Denver had them both on the board they were selecting Chubb.....my guess they figured the Browns were taking Chubb and would have settled on Ward or Nelson
I don't think he was referencing that part of the conversation, but pointing towards the idea that Denver definitely had an opening that they wanted to address at CB and had shown a strong interest in Denzel Ward.
No, you didn't say that, my apologies, but your comments on the matchup is what torched this fire up into the debate we have seen for several pages. I was actually trying to back you up, not argue against you...
Correct, you don't know what you are talking about....Miller and Chubbs' production has nothing to do with the conversation. That's just you being a tool...We were discussing the likelihood of Denver taking Ward IF Cleveland had selected Chubb, which I pegged at 100%...
It's impossible to know for sure, but if I was working off of my own personal war board then that's how it would have broke down for me.
I don't disagree that the Broncos were ecstatic...what I also believe is they would have been ecstatic with Ward. You can have one with the other, because two teams are getting two players. You can be happy with both. I would have been happy with Chubb as well...BUT, I think the defense as a whole got better with who the professional actually chose. Ogbah would have limited the effect of Bradley Chubb, there isn't a player on last year's roster or this current roster that will limit the effect Denzel Ward has on this defense. He will give them more of a boost in the long run.
We know Tim...we agree its the other guy that needs convincing...Denver traded Talib for a reason and it was before the draft...its all good we will never know for sure 100% but Chubb is more valuable than Ward
Right, but they no longer had Talib and had publicly stated a desire to add to the secondary. Couple that with their comments regarding Ward's ability and where they sat in the draft and it's not hard to draw the lines.
I'm not trying to convince anyone of anything. I'm giving my opinion on a topic that I enjoy engaging in and discussing at length. Nothing more.
I think that it was a definite possibility, but the lean from them was towards defense throughout the process. They also commented that they were targeting an offensive lineman in the second round and ended up with Courtland Sutton because they missed out on their guy. Put those two together and you have Denver focusing on defense in the first and looking to draft OL in the second, meaning they likely would have had Nelson after both Ward and Chubb.
We're all good Irish...The Browns have notoriously ignored Ohio State players for years. I'm fired up about having the next lockdown corner from DBU... Sometimes it sorta does feel like I'm the only one excited about Denzel, so that's why I sparked it to begin with. But I never thought or felt like you were taking up argument against me at all...I just don't see my enthusiasm on Ward as "overzealous" as much as I see most people down playing him like it'll be years before he contributes against the mighty Antonio Brown...I just don't buy that. Cornerback is about instinctiveness and athleticism, neither of which can be coached. Ward's got it...I understand that he won't be in total command of every nuance of Gregg's system, but like I've said before. CB is like RB. If you can play, you can play...and the coaches will play you.
What's the difference if Garrett and Ogbah are getting double digits AND Ward is making his way into multiple pro bowls? You have to look at the total picture...let's give the young guys a season to learn the game, but in the 2019 season if Both tandems are getting around 25 sacks between the pair, the Ward pick could look brilliant if Ward becomes what we thing he can. If Ogbah doesn't work out, or Ward doesn't become a high quality starter, then you can come back with the I told you so line.... Chubb hasn't become a force to be reckoned with just yet. You also need to realize Denver is in a different situation than we are...What did I ask, #1 priority of the defense? Pass rush...yes, they have Von Miller, but he is 29 years old. They will be looking to season Chubb to take over for him on his next contract. The Browns have Garrett, who is only 22. No one is taking over for him for 10 years, if he develops.
If I had to guess, I would probably go with Braden Smith as being their target in the second. His stock was all over the place leading up to the draft and he could have easily slid into the third if the board broke differently at the top of the second.
Stop w DBU...FSU has Ramsey, Joyner, Derwin and Rhodes...u can make an All Pro team w just those guys
