he lost his damn mind ? can they do a CTE test on this nut right now? he's got a screw loose or some kind of damage !
You guys don't think that legislating contact to the head out of the game at all positions is going to fundamentally change the game itself? Don't tell me running backs don't put their heads down finishing runs, don't tell me offensive and defensive linemen don't bang heads every play... the NFL is on the way to fundamentally changing the game we know. It's an inevitability, if they're wanting to get rid of concussions.
Sas, if you hold your head up you will be standing too high and get pushed . You want to keep your head and your shoulders below your opponents so you have the leverage, to get that leverage both offensive and defensive players will try to get lower than their opponent. When you are run blocking if your head is up high your man is making the tackle. The guy with his head the highest is losing the battle.
This is VERY interesting to me. Perhaps it’s an NFL CYA to protect the league in future litigation. Plaintiff: Player has brain injury. NFL: here’s video of player breaking an NFL rule. Judgment: NFL
Regarding future litigation: Lawyers are constantly looking for negligence by the Defendant. If a Defendant (NFL) knew of a dangerous situation and neglected to remedy that situation, the Plantiff and his lawyer just hit the jackpot. Thus, it would behoove the NFL to enact any action(s) they can, including rule changes, to disprove negligence.
Come on Gid, you make it sound like the new rule forces every player to see who can raise their head the highest... This isn't preschool. All this means is you can't force your eyes TO THE GROUND and take the crown of your helmet aimlessly into attack mode. If you do and there is belligerent contact, you will be tossed. If you do and there is incidental contact, you will be penalized... If you have your eyes on the target, your head won't be lowered and nothing else changes.
All boils down to how this rule will be perceived and enforced by officials. I can absolutely see the NFL making this rule to cover their own asses and then not enforce it.
Interesting that the NFL has all these tweaks and new rules added to the game for this season and seven first-year NFL officials among the 2018 class... oh boy, this is going to be fun.
Hey maybe the new refs will get the new rules correct a decent amount since they don't have old ones to look back on. But they will fuck up at an amount equal to the other rules.
with the new rules and more CTE cases popping up, the NFL could be a touch football league very soon. they want to protect the players, but the game is still a violent game. how do you stop the injuries ? how do you slow down a RB? NFL needs to do a lot here before their league goes to shit with these new rules.
I think they need to stop the PC shit and just admit its a violent game and be done with trying to change it and just leave the damn game alone. Nobody ever signed a contract in the NFL with a gun at their heads. You wanna play?... there is risk's involved.
sadly that's why younger kids are not playing anymore. their parents are pulling them out of Pop Warner and pee-wee football for safety concerns. i guess you can't get hurt playing the clarinet in band ? Unless you're in the Stanford Band. haha.
They get paid, at least they do nowadays. When I played football we tackled with our shoulders. Why do the players now feel like they have to use their helmet to make contact?
Maybe because they were not trained and disciplined earlier in their careers. Pop-Warner stuff and grade school thru High School needs to have better training and leadership in the art' of the game. Helmet usage, which players discovered could be used as a weapon, went un-checked until it became the norm for a lot of guy's. Just my thoughts anyway, but it seemed when I was a kid or in high school, the emphasis was on technique, but im sure a lot of that depended on the coach. Texas high school football would be a great place to do a study on the training and experience of the guy's doing the teaching. Another thing that popped into my pee-brain as I was typing is that on field enforcement has been neglecting its duty's over time too. When players like Atwater were using their heads, everyone said, cool, and then turned a blind eye. There has been a slew of head-hunters throughout the generations of football, but it used to be looked at with envy and awe... now people after the results are in, are beginning to second guess their thoughts on the validity of the head-shot, lol.
