    could be.
they were going to have to get rid of at least 1 D and having to sign both Lindholm and Hanifin wouldve been tough for a team like Carolina. wish the Bruins couldve been involved.

whats up with Dougie Hamilton? he cant be that bad, just seems like a socially awkward nerd. is he a prick? he's so damn good.

I'm not sure who got the better deal. Fox is a great prospect and Dougie is Dougie. But Hanafin is still developing, hopefully.

Avs pay out for Grubauer, 3yrs/$10M.

That's some pretty good marks for a backup.
Bernie-eh looks to be on the outs.

Grubs is a huge upgrade over Bernier. Varlamov has had some injuries, and the Avs believe they're becoming a contender. Grubs looks like a future starter so this could solidify their backstop for quite awhile.

It's nice to see Colorado stop treating Denver like a non-traditional and small market. Hockey deserves to be huge here.

If Varly's wife stopped the sauce, he wouldn't get so many nagging injuries.
Bernier looked good as Quick's back-up.
Goalies are as hard to figure out as dog racing.

Backup goalies are like relief pitchers, you don't know what you're going to get year to year.

The Sabres acquired Sheary from the Pens for a conditional 4th and by taking the (manageable) Hunwick contract. He's a winger that would have been the fifth highest pts. scorer for last year's Sabres. I think he may slot nicely into a top six role.

GM Botterill may know Pens players as well as anyone in hockey. I'm liking this trade a lot because Buffalo just had to improve scoring.

As an aside, I'm hearing that a deal may be in place to move ROR. He's due a big roster bonus on July 1, and I think if this happens that'll it wait for this reason. I would have guessed the Canes due to matchup and their penurios ways. Now that Hanafin is a Flame, I'm guessing the Blues.

Glad we got the pronunciation of his last name sorted out (Sherry) before shipping him to Buffalo. He is a fast and feisty wing. He should fit in with and have success with the young Sabres.

    Big time Masshole trade!
Hunwick was a Broon and Sheary is a born and bred Mass kid. Pretty sure my Colonials knocked him and his dirty Melrose HS squad out of the tourney when he was a freshman. The dates line up I’m just not sure if he went to Melrose before Cushing.

Little risk possible decent reward for Buffalo in this one.

I like the deal for Buffalo a lot. People will tell you how soft Sheary is and playoff woes or whatever, but he's a legitimately good, but flawed hockey player who can play either wing. He's definitely worth the $3 mil AAV as a middle six wing.

He just fell too far down the Pens depth chart. We are stacked at RW, and although our LW is kind of weak, he is not better than Guentzel, Hagelin, or Rust. We had to shed some cap, so he or Hagelin were the odd man out, and he let us unload the Hunwick mistake.

Honestly I think this is one of those few trades that work really well for both sides.

I stole this but think it summarizes it really well and add

    Pros
Should be a good value contract
He's quick and is good at finding open ice and has a quick shot.

    Cons
He inexplicably falls down a lot.
Gets knocked off the puck easily.
Sometimes it seems his stick has a forcefield around it where it repels the puck.

This is a real good move for Buffalo and one that makes a lot of sense for Pittsburgh too. I prefer that kind of trade.

We're expecting Sheary to play LW on Eich's line. He scored (I think) .86 ppg when he had Crosby as his pivot. Downgrade that a bit just because Buffalo still sucks* and he becomes a steal for a 3rd round pick**. (* Our mantra this year is "we suck less, we suck less!) (** The conditions on the 4th seem engineered to virtually assure that PIT gets the 3rd instead of the 4th. Sheary hits 20 goals, or Hunwick gets flipped by the deadline.)

For all the flak given Hunwick, he is actually a good skater. He's not that good at hockey, but he can skate. That alone makes him a better 7th D than what the Sabres had yesterday. It also takes pressure off rushing Brendan Guhle or Lawrence Pilut (D-RoY in the SHL last year).

Habs and sabres close to a deal involving ROR.

  17. KilkennyDan Let's Go Buffalo! Patreon Champion Sabres Bills Kilkenny

The Sabres boards are alight with the "news" that ROR has been traded pending the payment of his roster bonus on July 1.

Patches is not nearly enough for ROR. I do not know what the Habs have to add that I'd be interested in. I'd rather ROR went to the Blues.

That's what I heard, he has to clear bonus money. I haven't heard any names being mentioned.
