    From Pierre LeBrun…

Confirmed teams that John Tavares will meet with this week at CAA offices in L.A.: Dallas, Boston, San Jose, Toronto, Tampa (plus of course NYI). The Tavares camp will also have conversations with 2-3 other teams over the phone and perhaps also meet with 1-2 of them.

Dear, Tavares: Go West, young man.

In hockey draft picks are a different egg. 1-2 rounders can bring you some play. After that it is about a 25% chance of playing 100 games. Hextall had injuries at Goalie and I was saddened he didn't go after Markstrom. Mrazek has some pedigree, but was worn out by the time the Phlyers picked him up. Wouldn't be surprised if he did well again.

J.T. would be an excellent 3rd line center.

if his contract rumors are true, I don't know how anyone can afford him for 7 years. that's a ton of coin. it's not like he's leading the league in scoring. $14 mil for what exactly ?

  8. Willie Head Coach Manager News & Notes Vikings

He's only 27 and a has great leadership ability.

In 9 seasons he has 621 points in 669 games played.

    He doesn't miss games.

    5 All-Star appearances.

3 seasons in top 10 in goals.

2 seasons in top 10 assists.

2 seasons in top 10 in points.

3 seasons in top 10 of game winning goals.

    Multiple awards winner.

etc, etc, etc... he is a very consistent points getter and if he aims high, why not see what he can get? He's worth what he will get.

From all accounts I've seen, JT raises the performance of his teammates.

It's the % of the cap he will command, rather than the AAV per de that matters. He's probably there with Crosby in terms of his value to a team. His consistency suggests he'll perform at a similar level - perhaps even higher - in another org.

If the team that gets him wins one or two Cups then he'll be a steal, because he'd be a very big part of why the SC came to town.

Personally, I hope he gets out of the EC. But I'm starting to buy into some of the T.O. hype train.

Do they have the money? I'm not familiar enough with each team, but if he's going to get $12-$14 mil, I'd imagine it's not a long list that accommodate him and any other additions to the roster / extensions.

Go West, Tavares. Fucking go west.

that seems like a bargain for his 2 recent Cups and 3 Cups overall. $12-14 mil is a different ballgame entirely. To me, JT is not Crosby or even McDavid. If he raises the performance of his teammates, which I'm sure he does Dan, as playing with top guys always makes them better, the Islanders as a whole, were only 7th in their division. Just seems like a ton of money, Cap % or AAV. Again, I'm cheap, so I don't get all this money spending on specific players. Some I do, some and many I don't !

Bruins would have to move out Krejci and/or Backes. I think they could get assets back for Krejci, would probably have to pay a team to take on Backes.

Lots of good young cheap Ws to work with-Pastrnak, Bjork, Donato, DeBrusk, Heinen.
Still need money to pay McAvoy next year though. Would think that would make Krug expendable and Mcquaid a goner.

I say go for it and sort it out as you go, the opportunity to sign a JT doesn’t come along often.

$10.9MM is a "whole different ballgame" compared to $12-14MM?! I am not buying that for a moment.

First, players and agents ask for a percentage of the cap, since that's the best way to demonstrate their value to the team. What % was Crosby's AAV/cap the year he signed this deal?

Is McDavid worth his money? Forget the argument that no one is worth that kind of money since it's all relative and ultimately tied to HRR. If he who has helped his team to one playoff season is worth his money, than someone with 3 actual Cups is worth a lot too.

I think JT is worth a % of the cap a bit below Crosby and McDavid. But the winning team is likely going to have to outbid others. The rising cap and the competitive nature of teams tells me that $12MM is a very reasonable expectation. Anything above that will be a necessity in order to get his ink on their contract.

SMoJ, its times like this that we could really use hockeybob to splain all.

If he were to get $10.5M in dallas or tampa, the other bidders would have to come in at $12.5-$13M to match the take home pay.

LTIR and hidden contracts were Hockeybob's forte. Bean counter stuff that I can't keep up with.

The Tampa Bay Lightning raised some eyebrows on Tuesday by signing J.T. Miller to a five-year, $26.25 million contract, which means he’ll carry a $5.25M cap hit from 2018-19 to 2022-23. This lofty deal surfaces despite the already-cap-challenged Lightning reportedly being a part of the bidding war for John Tavares‘ services, which makes this substantial investment doubly surprising.

That’s not to take anything away from Miller, 25, who’s coming off three consecutive seasons of at least 22 goals. He generated a career-high by a small margin with 23 this past season, also accruing 58 points. He fit in very nicely in Tampa Bay, essentially filling trade partner Vladislav Namestnikov‘s spot alongside Steven Stamkos and Nikita Kucherov.
