Saw a report that the Browns are in the bidding for one of the supplementary draft DBs...I was scrolling quickly and forget which one. I wanna say its the kid from MSU. Word was that they would be submitting a high pick for him. That's fine and dandy, but there are only so many spots on the team in the defensive backfield...someone's not gonna make the team. I like it.
You can never have too many good dbs. If they have to get rid of one, I'm sure they won't have a problem with finding a trade partner. Which btw may help the Oline. JMHO
No shit Sherlock, put it down on paper...what each team in the AFC North, gained and lost, including young guys with another years experience...THEN comeback to me with your theory. You are the one not understanding what the Browns have done in one off season.
At some point, I think we've all had him on ignore...Idk why we continue. It's like a sickness. I know it's not my love for Florida State football chatter, that's for damn sure...maybe we all lookin forward to the day stopper has to admit that the Browns don't suck....
Jameis may not even be in the NFL in 2019. Teams put up with idiocy to a certain point. Lying to the ownership and coaching staff is definitely over that line. He earned this suspension the old fashioned way. By being a complete moron.
Ok they added Taylor is he better than Ben or Flacco? Same as Dalton? They added Landry is he better than Brown, Green or Crabtree? They added Hyde is he better than Bell or Mixon? They added DBs that I’m not even sure will start/make team...that’s what I mean by getting better...mayb Taylor is better than Kizer but mayb that doesn’t equate to wins cause he may b the worst QB in the division...like you said nobody knows but I just can’t believe fans would even use the P word when this team was 1-31 in last 2 yrs...now if they added Rodgers, Julio, Watt and Ramsey in the off season now I can see the excitement
Again, BIG picture with the expectations.... Rodgers = Mayfield Julio = Gordon Watt = Garrett Ramsey = Ward Lookee there...reason for excitement
You do realize you just took TWO teams to come up with your list to "match" the Browns...right? Here's the difference... Rodgers: Baker Mayfield was drafted #1 overall to be "THE GUY", Rudolph and Jackson were the 4th and 5th QBs in their draft class Ramsey: Humphrey was 4th DB and 2nd CB taken in his draft class. He is coming off a decent rookie season...AND an arrest in January...I know you like your bad boys.. Ramsey was the best CB in his class taken 5th overall, Ward the same taken 4th overall. Julio: Josh Gordon, pre-trouble, was the best WR in the entire NFL in 2014 (even only playing 14 games). He became the only player to have back to back 200 yard outputs at WR. If trouble free, he is the undisputed #1 WR on the Browns, like Julio is. Juju, is a complementary receiver taken at the END of the 2nd round, 6th WR in his class. No one will ever mistake him as the #1 receiver on the Steelers until Brown leaves...He doesn't even hold up to Cleveland's #2 receiver in Jarvis Landry. Watt: Myles Garrett was the CONSENSUS #1 overall draft pick. He was chosen at that spot because everyone believes he has the ability to match what JJ Watt has done over his career. Tuitt is expected to be a good player, don't take this the wrong way, but he was taken #46 overall in the 2014 draft. He's entering his 5th year and has declined each of his last two years in sacks and tackles. We are talking players on their upside, not sliding. This was a TERRIBLE example of "playing the game" as you put it...Want to try again?
Pittsburgh Steelers 2018 off season: Gained: Draft; #28Terrell Edmunds S ( 3rd safety in his class ), #60James Washington WR ( 7th WR in his class ), #76Mason Rudpolph QB ( 6th QB in his class ), #92Chuks Okorafor OT ( 8th OT in his class ), #148Marcus Allen S ( 15th safety in his class ), #165Jaylen Samuels RB ( 14th RB in his class ), #246Joshua Frazier DT ( 20th DT in his class ) Free Agency; Expected starters: Morgan Burnett S, Jon Bostic ILB, FA/not expected to start: Darrius Heyward-Bey, Lost: IR/PUP: Ryan Shazier (Huge Loss) Free Agency: Mike Mitchell (started last 4 years), JJ Wilcox (no real loss), William Gay (declining), Chris Hubbard (10 game starter in 2017), Robert Golden (no real loss), Impact Losses: Ryan Shazier Mike Mitchell Chris Hubbard Impact gains: Morgan Burnett, upgrades Mitchell Jon Bostic Expected Impact rookies: I don't know that ANY of their rookies are expected to impact the team in 2018 2nd/3rd year opportunities for experience upgrades: JuJu Smith-Schuster, #2 WR, 2nd year 2nd round starting receiver James Connor backup RB, 2nd year 3rd round backup RB Javon Hargrave NT, 3rd year 3rd round starting tackle Tyler Matakevich ILB, 3rd year 7th round backup LB TJ Watt OLB, 2nd year 1st round starting LB Keon Adams OLB, 2nd year 7th round backup LB Sean Davis SS, 3rd year 2nd round starting safety Artie Burns CB, 3rd year 1st round starting CB Overall, Losses far outweigh the gains with the loss of Shazier.. Pittsburgh's "improvement" will have to come from the experience factor of 2nd/3rd year players making a larger impact.
That was the #1 team in the division... Browns 2018 offseason Gained: Draft; #1Baker Mayfield (1st QB in his class), #4Denzel Ward (1st CB in his class), #33 Austin Corbett (3rd OT in his class), #35 Nick Chubb (4th RB in his class), #67Chad Thomas (4th DE in his class, #105Antonio Callaway (12th WR in his class), #150Genard Avery (7th ILB in his class), #175Damian Ratley (20th WR in his class{KR}), #188Simeon Thomas (Hybrid DB {KR}) Free Agency; Expected Starters: Jarvis Landry WR, Chris Hubbard/Greg Robinson RT, Tyrod Taylor QB, Carlos Hyde RB, Mychal Kendricks MLB, Damarius Randall FS, EJ Gaines CB, FA/not expected to start: Jeff Janus WR, Darren Fells TE, Drew Stanton QB, Chris Smith DE, Terrance Mitchell CB, Travis Carrie CB Lost: IR/Retired; Joe Thomas LT Free Agency/Trade; Isaiah Crowell (starter), Danny Shelton (traded), Jason McCourty (traded), DeShone Kizer (traded), Cody Kessler (traded), Kai Nacua (backup S), Kevin Hogan (traded) Impact losses: Joe Thomas Isaiah Crowell Danny Shelton Jason McCourty Impact Gains: Jarvis Landry, MAJOR IMPROVEMENT over Lewis Tyrod Taylor, MAJOR IMPROVEMENT over Kizer Carlos Hyde, wipes out Crowell loss Mychal Kendricks, minor improvement over Joe Schobert, major depth help Damarius Randall, MAJOR IMPROVEMENT over Peppers, who can now move to his natural position EJ Gaines, improvement to the DB room All other FA gains are major improvements to the depth that the Browns lacked in 2017 Expected Impact rookies: Denzel Ward, should step in and take a MAJOR role immediately from day 1 Nick Chubb, could have a major role in the RB committee **Possible Baker Mayfield, if he can supplant Tyrod Taylor, then he would have a major role/impact 2nd/3rd year opportunities for experience upgrades: Corey Coleman WR, starter, past injuries have effected him, it's do or die time Josh Gordon WR, technically his 3rd year, will still be ERFA in 2019..We all know what an impact a healthy sober Gordon can have Ricardo Lewis/Rashard Higgins 3rd WR, one or both need to step up, or they will be shipped out after their 3rd year. Shon Coleman, expected Joe Thomas replacement in his 3rd season David Njoku, EVERYONE is expecting the 2nd year TE to make a major jump and contribution in 2018 Seth Devalve, complimentary TE in his 3rd season Myles Garrett, this 2nd year DE is expected to take over as a super stud in the league, not just on the team Trevon Coley, in his 2nd year, started 15 games last season and needs to make a jump to hold off the next guy Caleb Brantley, 2nd year DT can make a leap in a young DL room Larry Ogunjobi, another 2nd year 3rd round DT...this room should just push each other each and every year Emmanuel Ogbah, 3rd year 2nd round DE, has shown flashes. If he keeps the injuries in check, could be in for a big year Carl Nassib, 3rd year 3rd round DE, needs to show his mettle if he wants to retain a roster spot Joe Schobert, 3rd year 4th round ILB, Already showed signs of what he can be. Must hold off Kendricks Briean Boddy-Calhoun, 3rd year CB has shown he belongs in this league Jabrill Peppers, 2nd year STRONG safety, moving to his natural position should show a huge improvement Derrick Kindred, 3rd year 4th round SS, has shown improvement each of his first two years. Zane Gonzalez, 2nd year K, struggled early on, but became what the Browns thought they were getting later in the year. Overall: I don't think you can argue any longer about the AMOUNT of improvement this roster has overtaken. 2018, should by all accounts, show a massive improvement in the form of wins. The improvement in the Browns off season is coming from all angles, impact rookies, LARGE improvement form veteran players, and a solid list of 2nd/3rd year guys that will have an impact on the team winning and losing games.
This is the worst team in the AFC North and the top team in the AFC North in 2017. We haven't even discussed DECLINING aspects of the teams, due to aging players on each roster. We are only talking gains based on youth.
In reality, the AFC North roster discussion is a worthwhile one in late June/early July when there really isn't anything else to discuss... Stopper is just ignorant to the subject, on par with most of his posts..
I'm digging the breakdowns. Two things - Would you agree that the Browns had the largest gap to cover? The hit percentage for first round picks since 2012 is roughly 45% (and interestingly, it's near identical when shrunk to just the top 10) so draft positioning as a reference is 'eye-of-the-beholder'.
Edmunds will be the top safety in the AFCN by next season Washington is another WR similar to Antonio Brown Rudolph was the best QB in the draft. Just ask Tim. Mitchell was a big problem with our poor communication in the secondary. That is why the Steelers cut him.
