Talking about the supporting cast for Tyrod Taylor, Cleveland Browns

The Cleveland Browns hope they've found a franchise quarterback in Baker Mayfield, but before Mayfield sees the field in the regular season, bridge starter Tyrod Taylor will get to work with a group that has more talent than the majority of NFL offensive supporting casts.

The Browns have one of the most intriguing receiver trios in the league now that Pro Bowler Jarvis Landry has been brought in to work with 2016 first-round pick Corey Coleman (finally healthy) and redemption-seeking former superstar Josh Gordon (finally eligible).

Beyond that, there's some talent with Ricardo Louis, Rashard Higgins and rookie Antonio Callaway lending support.

At tight end, there's plenty of hope for the physically marvelous David Njoku and the underrated Darren Fells, while in the backfield they have three enticing options in veteran Carlos Hyde, rookie second-round pick Nick Chubb and impressive pass-catching back Duke Johnson.

Put it all together and you have a handful of dudes who can become stars this year (Coleman, Gordon, Njoku, Chubb, Johnson) and several who have already done big things (Landry, Gordon, Hyde, Johnson).

When you look at the supporting cast in place for Taylor and Mayfield, it becomes clear the Browns are no longer a punchline.

I for one do not...I think they need another off season of moves. Tyrod, I believe can inch closer to a top ten player with the talent (if they perform), but ultimately, his greatest asset is also his greatest down fall. He doesn't have the tools to take chances, so he doesn't take chances at all.

I do think they have a realistic chance to win 5-8 games.

The Browns shouldn't be a punching bag anymore although it may be a rough transition this season that should be stabilized by next offseason. But a new coach may slow things down just a tad if Hue is gone next offseason. I would expect the playoffs for 2020 and hope for them next season. As for this season, I just want to see the transition of talent and the scheme click.

Honest question here. Does Greggggggg Williams even know what press coverage looks like anymore?

If you're going to ask ridiculous questions, expect ridiculous answers.

My comment about soft conferences was mostly tongue-in-cheek, although really? Miami, New York, and Buffalo? The Patriots get to sleepwalk into the post-season every year.

Cleveland is better than Buffalo for a multitude of reasons, but let's just go with the first one that comes to mind: we traded a third round pick for their winning, Pro Bowl caliber quarterback who just took them to the playoffs with a decimated roster and no skill players to speak of, while they drafted a mega-bust, signed another bum, and are currently preparing to start Nate "5 INTs" Peterman this coming season.

Enjoy your six freebies again this year, @SPress.

Yes, let's...No team in the league improved their roster more than the Cleveland Browns this offseason. You keep trying to remind us that we're the Browns, as if oblivious to the influx of talent. It's okay, after 1-31, I expected this from some. I'm truly looking forward to you eating a big shit sandwich, with all your predictable takes...I know you want us to remain the punchline of the NFL, but there's no way that's happening. If you can't look at our current roster and see how it's much better than what Tyrod had last year in Buffalo, then I can't help ya...The fact that you even question it, makes me seriously doubt your football knowledge anyway. Enjoy trolling Cleveland for another couple months. Reality will set in soon enough for ya...

Well. if you guys were not in the north every year we could actually have a gauge. You guys destroy that stat. 0-32 how good the Steelers look.

I think the issue for many is that the fanbase here was saying much of the same last year - "The Browns are so much better than last year, we have so much more talent, etc.". The team won fewer games than the year prior. So, when the fans here say that they're a better team than another, or that they're looking at a certain win total, etc., it doesn't jive well with reality. Reality is that the Browns are currently a 0 win team. If they end up surprising and winning a multitude of games next year (which many, including myself, want), then what you guys are saying is applicable. Until then, it's empty and unfounded, and people are going to call you on it.

If this team is as good as you think, stay patient - you'll have plenty of crow to shove down people's faces when they're winning. In the meantime, you guys make it worse for yourselves every offseason. And I get it, it's a miserable existence, but hyping yourself up in advance of success doesn't make it any better.

I did not get further than maybe 10 words. Rams did better. And actually they um mean something. Keep feeding the bottom of your roster and act like it is good.

where is the talent TD? Never mind the Steelers or Colts or whoever. How do you you beat the Bengals or Jets or whoever

Greg Williams huh? And they call my guys dirty

  16. Exactly...guys on here had them winning 5-7 games beating NYJ, Chic, Cincy, Balt, Indy...now their better than Buff this year...based on what? The influx of proven talent when Buff has proven the talent...I can guarantee you SAS wouldn’t put $100 on that 9-7 prediction and if he truly felt that way he would be a RICH man after the season cause he should be betting thousands on the over total

I don't have them making the playoffs this season, but I understand the reasons for optimism.

They have gotten better on paper, there is no question about that, but the schedule is absolutely brutal for a team in their situation.

They will be a better team but I don't see a path to 9 wins on their calendar.

It's early and we haven't seen a single snap of preseason football so it's tough to give a solid over/under on the win total, but right now I have it set at 3.5.
