A double-negative of "unbelievable" connotes a really shitty scenario. I think that may be what Max meant. Not really. But that is how everyone should spin his comments. If he believes it or not, he's entering a situation that could be worse than going to the Sabres a few years ago. At least Darcy Regier had the cajones to tell Buffalo fans that there could be some pain ahead.

Pain, my ass! Five years later I'm too numb to feel that pain. Now we're on the verge of drafting Dahlin and I'm just feeling stoned without knowing what to really think.

    Fire Sale in Ottawa?

Pretty sure the WAGs battle has something to do with this.

When they state in the presser announcing the trade that one of the primary reasons was to improve team chemistry, you know this was all about getting Hoff off the roster.

The Sharks now have two "bad boy" wingers that can fly. They'll be fun to watch this year.

Hoff's girlfriend cost the Sens at least one major asset in this trade.

I woke up this morning thinking, "At least I don't have to worry about players' wives fighting, and lawsuits, etc. Don't want any of that near Florida. This team chemistry is as good as it gets".

    Ah, fuck.

I dunno. I think Hoff is a great (at least a very good) player. Everyone but Ottawa looks good here.

It was his girlfriend and not him. I'm giving him a chance. And, I hope he burns the Sens ass every time they play.

Ottawa is in a race to who looks worse next year with the Habs. Karlsson is gone IMO. A good guess is to Denver and they get their 2019 1st back (and some other parts).

No doubt Hoffman can play. I don't quite know where he fits - he'd make a hell of an addition to the second line with Troch and Huby, but Vatrano was crushing it in that spot when he came on at the end of the season. Bjugy is a good piece on the top line, and also came on strong as that line gelled. McGinn, who would likely be replaced in any equation, was the weakest link of the bunch, and acquired in trade for Demers -a competent D-man that we could use.

    I have several concerns here:

The first is obviously the chemistry. This is a team with phenomenal team chemistry, coming out of last season, that played outstandingly down the stretch. These guys live next door to each other, spend their free time with each other, and head to practice on the back of one another's golf carts together. I REALLY hope this doesn't disrupt any of that... It's one of the reasons this team is so fun and encouraging to watch / follow. This is a good bunch. You're right, it was his fiance that was the problem, but - she's coming with him.

Second, they didn't give up nothing. A couple picks, including a second next year. Hopefully Hoffman plays well enough that it's a low pick and not nearly as much needed.

Lastly, my concern is this: the team looked good at F prior to Hoffman. Sure, they look better now, but there's a logjam. There's a lot of young talent coming up that deserve time and chances, and the top two lines really gelled down the stretch. You've got 7 guys who are undoubtedly top 6 players, and a couple others who played well when they got their chances there due to injury. This team has so much talent at F, I think it's a complete given that they move some of it for D or young G help.

I'm just nervous, is all. I didn't see this team needing a shakeup - I saw it needing some defensive help, and a good structuring of its developing F group. We were in the same exact position two years ago - winning the division, poised for a great year upcoming. And then they shook it up needlessly, resetting the team's window entirely. ... And here we are seeing another shakeup. I'm nervous.

    Dadonov - Barkov - Bjugy / Hoffman
    Huby - Troch - Hoffman / Vatrano

Bjugy might be the odd man out, here, which would be a shame. Or they move Bjugy / Vatrano down to the third line - I mean, it's not a bad problem to have too much talent. My fear is just that they won't have enough on D, and too much on offense, with some of it maybe going underutilized. I should be celebrating the influx of talent, and the reality of maybe having serious talent through all four lines, and instead I'm overthinking it, per usual.

Can anyone with more insight than myself shed some light on the -20 in Hoffman's stat line, this year? Obviously this is a flawed metric, and the Sens weren't a good team, but it does jump out. I don't know Hoffman well enough to know what flaws there are in his game.

The major flaw in his "game" is how he got a bitch for a fiancée.

  18. dlinebass5 M.V.P. Bears

Well, clearly. And that's my chief concern, obviously. This is a team that has the "chemistry" part on lock, so it's definitely worrying.

But if anyone can give me more detailed feedback of his on-ice game, that would be appreciated.

I think Hoffman will be a welcome addition in Florida. He's the sniper we were talking about earlier......could be anyway. He's not Kessel but he should be good for 25+ goals next season. He's a better and far more consistent player than Vatrano, in terms of games played and production. Seems like a good deal for Florida and Tallon took advantage of a player in a strange situation.
Not much to add to the -20 other than the Senators were awful, I wouldnt put too much stock in to it personally. Erik Karlsson was -25.
I think youre right dline, Bjugstad could be the loser here. Maybe send him back to the middle as the 3C?

Agree with Dan that everyone seems to have won today outside of the Senators.
