Eh, obvious being a key word as well. I don't see where he had a clear shot to head that ball without the handling foul. Maybe he could've gotten it but to say it was obvious he would as to send a guy off? Sorry still don't see it. They got the PK and the goal that's more than sufficient punishment IMO
You can't stick your hand up over your head to hit the ball no matter the situation. Any ball coming in is also an obvious opportunity anyways. It doesn't have to be a clear shot, just a decent chance. The ball could not result in an immediate shot but other chances such as a loose ball leading to a goal are denied as well. Really any ball on a cross with people in the vicinity is DOGSO, as are breakaways and certain odd-man rushes. The ref just didn't feel like following the rule and VAR didn't want anything to do with it. Not even a review under the new rules.
Either way it's over now, although if that's a red as it should be then Australia likely gets at least 1 point out of the game.
Fair enough. I'm comfortable being on the side where not every opportunity is an obvious goal scoring one.
I'm still scratching my head over the caution on Delaney from Denmark though (definitely a DFK, but no idea why ref carded him)
The opportunities in question are goal-scoring ones. It's describing the opportunity. Without a description you can't ever know what the opportunity was? To get a fan to run on the field or a massage? The ball was going into the vicinity of the crowd in front of the net.
I don't get it either. I forget if it was then or another time but Denmark got called for a foul when the Peru player did the damage and got carded(I think).
