"Manufacture a QB controversy" - Great! Just name Baker the week 1 starter and avoid it. I already posted my reasons for doing it.
Per Bleacher Report; Which player has the most to prove at mini-camp? Cleveland Browns: QB Baker Mayfield Tony Dejak/Associated Press It might seem a little strange to single out a player who probably won't even start in Week 1 as the player with the most to prove for the Cleveland Browns in minicamp. But when you're the No. 1 overall pick in the NFL draft, the pressure to justify that selection is both immediate and constant. So far at least, Baker Mayfield appears to be making quite the impression on his new teammates. Jared Tokarz of NFL Draft Insider tweeted recently that a "Browns source told me internally people are continually blown away with Baker Mayfield. 'NEVER have we seen teammates gravitate to someone like this.'" That's all well and good, but Mayfield needs to do more at minicamp than just show leadership ability. He needs to throw accurate passes and make the right reads. Mayfield needs to manufacture a quarterback controversy for the Browns in training camp. When you're the first overall pick in the draft, you're expected to make the coaching staff's decision a difficult one.
I think he's just eluding to what is expected of the #1 overall pick, which is what I've been saying all along. Not that it's going to be a big controversial team crippling controversy...This is what they want. The Browns are saying the right things, but I believe expectations truly are that Mayfield beats out Tyrod in training camp. Wouldn't that be better than seeing the Browns turn to the rookie at some point in the season, more out of desperation, because of an ineffective Taylor?
Sorry to dredge it up again, but the solution to the "protesting the anthem / protesting the inequalities in policing" is very simple. Go back to the players coming out onto the field "after" the anthem. The NFL got Big Money from the armed services for advertising. That's how this got started. It used to be played for the fans, and then the teams came out. That seemed to work. Imagine money corrupting something. Weird huh?
Meanwhile, regarding football: I love the Kendricks signing. Dorsey isn't playing around. We have the horses now. Can we coach? That is the question, so Dorsey has set up Hue to succeed or fail, without the luxury of claiming he's doesn't have the talent. I would be very happy if Hue surprises me and turns out to be a HC, after all, or proves he isn't and Dorsey gets his man. Winning is the goal.
There is a major misconception on the "Big Money" paid by the armed services. The Falcons got paid the most, but the other teams didn't "make" money on this. The armed forces pay for their advertisement on game day. The NFL didn't go to them and tell them they would let them do this if they paid them "x" amount of money. It is paid to cover expenses for the pregame propaganda used for recruitment. The Browns got about $8300 per game for their pregame...the flag alone cost $50,000. Then they have to pay for coordinators, transportation, storage, etc. They aren't pocketing money at the expense of the government. But, I don't disagree, having the players in the locker room until after the National Anthem would alleviate the issue. Let them come out similar to after halftime.
I agree, with the roster additions, I would say it is sink or swim time for Hue...what did he do in Lake Erie? I didn't see much paddling going on...I hope that isn't a vision of things to come.
Browns and Duke Johnson agree on 3-year extension worth $15.6 million By Mary Kay Cabot, cleveland.com CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The Browns have reached agreement on a three-year extension with running back Duke Johnson worth $15.6 million, his agent Kristen Campbell told cleveland.com. The deal includes $7.74 million guaranteed and a $5 million signing bonus. NFL Network's Mike Garafolo was the first to report the deal was close. During the first week of OTAs May 23, Johnson indicated he had some reassurance from the powers-that-be that he'd stick around, despite the fact they signed Carlos Hyde as a free agent and drafted Nick Chubb in the second round. "Yeah, I'm very optimistic,'' he said. "I believe that not only the staff, but the front office wants me here. It's just about both sides coming to an agreement." He felt that if all went as planned, they'd have done by the start of the season. "That's ideal,'' he said. "If it comes the season and a deal still isn't done, I'm still under contract, so there's not really much I can do but go out and perform.'' Despite all the losing, Johnson has always wanted to be here when the tide turns, and believes that time is near. "I've always seen that it could be special,'' he said. "It's just up to the players and staff to get us to that point. I'm looking forward to it. I'm excited. I'm always optimistic about each year ... and trying to figure out what our identity is going to be, how many games we're going to win and what we're going to do.
Probably shouldn't post this... http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap30...is-landry-browns-qbs-a-lot-better-than-miamis TD is still way too whacked out on Mayfield Koolaid Though I do like some of what I am seeing for the way Dorsey has revamped the roster. Regardless of how "good" Mayfield looks in the off season. I still prefer having a veteran QB under center for the entire 17 weeks of the regular season. With Taylor basically on a one year prove it type contract I think he will be playing his Arse off and looking good. Just give Mayfield his tablet and let him sit and study for the year.
lol! Whacked out as I am Crex, you can trust me on this....Nobody cares what you or I prefer. The reality is, Baker Mayfield was the number one pick of the draft. He has more talent than Tyrod Taylor could ever dream of.... The notion of Tyrod keeping him at bay is laughable IMO, let alone for 17 weeks...You might as well start bracing for it my friend. It's a bygone era where the #1 guy sits..... Baker Mayfield is gonna be our QB this year.
I really don't want to squabble with Browns fans on this....If Taylor can hold off Baker, then great. (just know that'll mean 100% sure that we got the wrong guy)
