The one thing that is eating at me is all the people who are saying he's appalled that anyone would think he would sign with the Browns....

HE FLEW TO CLEVELAND FOR A WORKOUT.

He isn't wasting his time if he is going to refuse to sign here. That is so stupid.

Yeah, that shit pisses me off too...I try not to let it bother me, but it does. The only way to change that stigma is to win. As long as we keep our firm hold on being last at everything, that sort of chatter is inevitable...

    Here's to change...

Maybe, just maybe, the Browns finally aren't the place vets come to die, or up and comers get to use as leverage for a bigger deal with a better team.

    Browns sign second-rounder Nick Chubb

The Browns found their quarterback of the future in the first round, and perhaps the running back of the future in the second.

And one of them has a new contract to go with that status.

According to a tweet from his agents, second-round pick Nick Chubb has signed his rookie deal with the Browns.

Chubb, the Georgia running back who helped his team to the national title game, was the 35th overall pick. He’s also part of a deep backfield, which also includes veteran free agent Carlos Hyde and Duke Johnson.

The Browns haven’t signed first-rounders Baker Mayfield or Denzel Ward yet, but that shouldn’t be complicated, because none of them are.

Denzel Ward promoted to 1st team cornerback in final week of Browns OTAs
    [IMG]

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- It looks like No. 4 overall pick Denzel Ward won't have to wait as long to start as a rookie as his predecessor Joe Haden did.

Ward, who had an excellent day in the open OTA last week, was promoted to first team defense Tuesday opposite T.J. Carrie. Last week, it was Carrie and free-agent pickup Terrance Mitchell.

If the Ohio State product keeps up this way, he'll be starting opening day against Antonio Brown and the Steelers. For Haden, he had to wait until week nine to become a full-time starter.

"Ward being out there is because he's earning it,'' said coach Hue Jackson after practice. "He's working at it. He plays a position that we've been needing a guy to step up. We see him improving each and every day and doing the things that we're asking. He needs to continue to do that to continue to be out there but we know he's very talented. That's why we drafted him. He's displayed that since he's been here.''

In practice last week, the Macedonia, Ohio native broke up a fade to the much-taller Josh Gordon in the end zone. Plays such as that helped earn him the promotion.

"Every day, I see him getting a little bit better," Jackson said then. "The speed of the game is not too big for him. The stage is not too big for him. He is out there making plays."

Baker Mayfield has 'never seen anything like' Josh Gordon
    [IMG]
CLEVELAND, Ohio — A major benefit of Baker Mayfield working with the second team offense behind Tyrod Taylor now is that he’ll have a chance to throw to the likes of Josh Gordon and Jarvis Landry as the summer goes along.

Granted, they’re working primarily with Taylor, but the first- and second-teamers will mix and match, and Mayfield will get a feel for the starters during next week’s minicamp and training camp.

“Pretty impressive,’’ Mayfield said after OTAs on Tuesday. “Those guys are Pro Bowlers and great players for a reason. Unbelievable leaders and just the way they carry themselves. It’s fun to be around. It’s fun to watch and then also you get to throw it to them. It makes it fun.’’

Mayfield has been especially impressed with Gordon, who’s working his way back to his Pro Bowl form of 2013. While Mayfield was starting for Texas Tech that year, Gordon was racking up 1,646 yards — most in the NFL.

“Physically-talented,’’ said Mayfield. “I’ve never seen anybody like him, bar none. He’s definitely gifted.’’

Cleveland Browns: Rookie Denzel Ward right on track

A shockwave rattled the draft when the Cleveland Browns selected Denzel Ward over Bradley Chubb — they made the right choice.

Mandatory training camp for the Cleveland Browns is set to start June 25 at the the team’s training complex in Berea, OH. All eyes will be on the former Ohio State cornerback Denzel Ward, in large part because late rumblings and reports suggested the Browns would select defensive end Bradley Chubb with the No. 4 pick in the 2018 NFL Draft.

However, new general manager John Dorsey opted to improve the secondary instead. The selection of Ward wasn’t just about the best player available for the Browns, it was about need. With the front seven loaded with talent, especially at defensive end, a cornerback made sense to add t the roster.

The Browns have starters Myles Garrett and Emmanuel Ogbah, with Carl Nassib and Chris Smith working into the rotation. Drafting Chubb would have just been overkill at this point. Contrarily, their corner spot was on empty and Ward is expected to help immediately.

What he brings to the table is sheer athletic ability, feistiness and physicality needed from a cornerback in Gregg Williams’ system. Players like Samari Rolle, Nate Clements and Turmaine Johnson had career years under Williams. Likewise, Ward should flourish because of his similar skill-set.

Though smaller (5-10, 183 pounds) than the others listed above, Ward’s ability to press and disrupt quick routes is second to none. He also possesses the ability to mirror routes because of his speed, quickness, and football intellect.

Additionally, his willingness to tackle and his big play ability makes him an X-factor. Ward will be moved around the field to shadow the deep threats. However, as a rookie, there will be some short-term hiccups — as is to be excepted.

Still, Ward should bring the Browns a long-term solution in addition to some much needed immediate success. As a matter of fact, Browns beat writer Mary Kay Cabot reported via Twitter that Ward has officially been inserted with the first-team during OTAs.

Cleveland Browns: State of the Dawg Pound, June 2018

The ‘Cleanse’ is complete for the Cleveland Browns. The Iceman cometh, regrettable statements and continued optimism it’s time for The State of the Dawg Pound, June 2018.

Cleveland Browns head coach Hue Jackson has taken the plunge, finally! Jackson backed up his infamous bet with a swim in Lake Erie and in the process, raised over $30,000 in support of survivors of human trafficking.

The “Cleanse” closes an ugly chapter in Browns history and the focus now turns to rebuilding the faith and trust of fans and winning games.
I must admit I had hoped the cleanse would have come along with the painful shivers of a mid-winter plunge. As it turns out, Hue’s doctors played a role in a warmer-weather dunk as he has a stent. I find no argument to maintaining one’s ticker performance, so I have come to terms. I would, however, have like to have seen every single player at his side, rookies included, but he lived up to his promise nonetheless.

The “Iceman” Chuck Liddell coaches it up!

For those of you unfamiliar with MMA, Chuck Liddell will go down in history as one of the best to ever step foot into a cage, ring or octogon. His championship career certainly validates his expertise is close-quarters combat. If his teaching skills are remotely close in caliber to his legendary fighting skills, the benefit could be tremendous.

Liddell comes to Cleveland as part of the Unbreakable Performance Center. Along with Liddell, MMA-great Randy Couture and other fighters have taken part in exercises with all of the Browns position groups, focusing on wrestling and grappling techniques, maintaining balance and the winning mindset of a fighter.

    Regrettable Statements:

Tyrod Taylor has voiced his disappointment in the owner’s decision to force players to stand for the flag or remain in the locker room, stating the players should have been involved in the decision (via Browns Zone)

To make a decision that strong, you would hope that the players had input on it, but obviously not,” Taylor said after the organized team activities practice. “It is what we have to deal with as players. Not a good or a bad thing, but at the end of the day, they call the shots and make the rules. That is what we have to abide by.

Perhaps a dunk in the lake would have been a wiser offer by Damarious Randall, whose tweet that he would buy jerseys for fans that retweeted in the event that the Cavs beat Golden State in the NBA Finals went viral.

    Optimism in Believeland:

As OTAs continue, one bright spot has emerged, being Denzel Ward. Ward has made his presence known with his play, most notably, holding his own against Josh Gordon.

Antonio Callaway has also drawn praise for his play in OTAs. It will be quite a breath of fresh air if he keeps out of trouble and fills a much needed third or fourth passing option. Speaking of fresh air, I hope he and Gordon are inhaling plenty of the smoke-free variety.

Congratulations to Jarvis Landry for his selection in the NFL’s Top 100 Players of 2018. His placement at No. 52 is well earned — although he would argue that it is 51 spots below where he should be ranked. Even at 10 spots behind his 2017 ranking, No. 52 is a welcomed sight for a Cleveland receiver.

High player-turnaround is commonly a struggle of its own for NFL teams. It takes time for a group of players to adhere and mishaps are inevitable, but overall, optimism has taken hold in the Dawg Pound. The future, no doubt, holds far less horrors than the recent past.

The owners are the only ones to make decisions about rules. The players have no say in what is or isn’t allowed on that field. If Taylor doesn’t like it go find another job that will pay him millions a year.

I think he understands that by saying “It is what we have to deal with as players. Not a good or a bad thing, but at the end of the day, they call the shots and make the rules. That is what we have to abide by."

They don't make the rules, but they still have opinions and when a reporter asks, they have the right to use their voice...I think you are being a little harsh in this particular case. This is a rule that effects everyone, players, league, fans...literally, everyone. It's such a strong subject matter that nearly everyone has an opinion on it. There are there, "I don't care, I just want to watch football" people. That's fine, it wouldn't effect them either way...but the other 80% of the population has an opinion, so for them to make a rule without taking the players into consideration is a little short sided. Talk to them, hear them out and come up with a response when you decide to make a rule anyway...be prepared for what the fallout will look like through education. Not even including them in the conversation, that just invites opposition.

My employer doesn’t give me the option to make rules. WTF should anyone expect their employer to involve them when they make rules? Find another employer willing to pay millions for someone to do shit their company doesn’t want done. The only problem is that the owners didn’t put their foot down right away when kap started this.

Do you have a union where you work? If not, then I understand how you feel...If there is a union, they are involved in making rules within the company.

And don't sit here and say, "They can go somewhere else to be paid millions", because you know that you're being inherently snide and sarcastic. There isn't another NFL. That's not the way any other field of employment works. Not yours, not mine...

Your employers have to up their work conditions because their competitors do it. The NFL? They don't have competitors. Thus, they can do whatever they want until the public pushes back enough that the league caves. But they're not worried about their players going next door, like your employer might be.

I believe he was being sarcastic in meaning..."If Taylor doesn’t like it go find another job that will pay him millions a year." In other words, if you have another option to make millions elsewhere do it, if not, sit down, shut up, and obey the rules put in front of you.

I agree with this statement, other than the fact that people can make a simple choice not to watch. Football isn't a necessity, it's a pastime. Your employer has competition, because they sell a product or service. The NFL takes the best professional football players and offers you the opportunity to watch them play a game. No one else can do it, because they can't afford to steal away the best athletes, there are 32 teams and the competition is already watered down, despite a salary cap which helps with parity. This isn't as much about a worry for the players leaving, as much as it is an entity attempting to get past a situation it finds itself in that is dividing a country.

I reiterate, they are selling a pastime, not mediating a debate....yet, they are in the middle of a major debate. (edit) and the problem with the entire situation is that the debate isn't even about the subject matter in which the players are focused on...THAT is the major problem, it's a debate on respect and whether the players are disrespecting the country for their timing of the protest..the message is getting lost anyway.

Right IrishDawg42! I was being sarcastic about finding another job to pay him millions. It is sad that we have to talk about kneeling as much as we do. I don’t really think I would give a crap about the kneeling if it wasn’t taking on this bigger than life personna. I want football to be about football, not bullshit that is political. These players could get airtime to state their displeasure with things like police brutality anytime they want. News shows are always ready to interview someone famous. Politics doesn’t have to seep into every aspect of our lives.
