Texans expect J.J. Watt, Deshaun Watson to be ready for training camp The Texans may have been the unluckiest team in the league on the injury front last year, but there’s good news on injuries this year. Houston lost both their breakout star quarterback Deshaun Watson and their three-time Defensive Player of the Year J.J. Watt to season-ending injuries last season, but both of them are expected to be ready to go for the start of training camp. According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Houston does not anticipate putting either player on the physically unable to perform list. Watt suffered a tibial plateau fracture in his left leg in Week Five and missed the rest of the season. Watt was named Defensive Player of the Year in 2012, 2014 and 2015, but he played in just three games in 2016 and five games in 2017 because of injuries. Houston is hoping that at age 29, Watt can get back to form. Watson was on his way to being named Rookie of the Year, and potentially even league MVP, for the way he was playing after becoming the Texans’ starting quarterback in Week Two. But he was lost for the season after just six starts.
So much for J.J. Wilcox signing with the 49ers. Wilcox was in the 49ers’ facility intending to sign a contract today, but he had a last-minute change of heart and now plans to sign with the Jets, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. Although Wilcox and the team had agreed to terms, he suddenly backed out today and decided he wants to play for Jets head coach Todd Bowles, according to the report. So Wilcox, a 27-year-old safety, is now flying to New Jersey, ready to sign with the Jets. This is the second consecutive offseason that Wilcox has had an odd switch from one team to another. Last year he signed a two-year, $6.25 million contract with the Buccaneers in the offseason, but he was traded to the Steelers before the start of the regular season. The Steelers cut him in April. Now Wilcox will sign with the Jets, and perhaps stay there longer than he lasted with the Buccaneers and Steelers — and certainly longer than he lasted with the 49ers.
I was guessing before, I looked it up now and it still comes up with Couch. If not him then please let us know.
His first GM job was not with Cleveland...It was a player that I would say did not live up to his draft status although he was a starter for 2 different teams I believe.
That's true. He was a team executive for the 49ers after he retired from playing. But his first General Managers job was with Cleveland when the team re-booted in 1999. Its also true that Tim Couch was the #1 O/A selection in the 1999 College draft held in April of 1999. However, due to the re-boot of the Browns, the NFL also had an Expansion Draft in February of 1999. A total of 144 players were left unprotected by the other 30 teams and Cleveland drafted 33 of them. This 1st player drafted by Dwight Clark in the 1999 Expansion draft was . . . Jim Pyne, C - Detroit Lions. (Thats why they call it trivia)
Wasn't he the GM for the 49ers in 98 and would have drafted R.W. McQuarters? Site i looked at listed him as the GM/Director of player personal. Although after taking another look it also lists John McVay as interim GM so it is possible he was in charge during the draft and Clark took over after the draft. Not a 49er fan so unsure about that piece of trivia, and only did a quick search...He really picked a C with his first pick?
That’s a tricky one, because you’re first thought is the college draft not expansion. Good question Lyman.
Yeah, he got me on that one too...then I missed the expansion guess as well...I'm feeling a little down on my Browns trivia
Baker Mayfield on Josh Gordon: “I’ve never seen anybody like him” Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield played with some good players at Oklahoma, but no one like Josh Gordon. Mayfield told Andrew Gribble of the Browns’ website that throwing to Gordon during Organized Team Activities has been a unique experience. “I’ve never seen anybody like him,” Mayfield said. Gordon might be the most talented wide receiver in the NFL. In 2013 he caught 87 passes for a league-leading 1,646 yards and nine touchdowns in 14 games, despite catching passes from the likes of Jason Campbell, Brandon Weeden and Brian Hoyer. Unfortunately, Gordon has had multiple drug offenses and has played in just 10 games in four seasons since then. Now Gordon is saying all the right things about being back with the Browns and firmly committed to football. Mayfield’s development as a quarterback will go much more smoothly if he has Gordon on his side. (PFT)
Jay Gruden excited by what Derrius Guice can add to Washington’s passing game Washington rookie running back Derrius Guice caught just 32 passes in three seasons at LSU. But in the NFL, he appears poised to have a significant role as a receiver. That’s the word from Washington coach Jay Gruden, who said “it’s been very exciting” watching Guice catch passes during offseason work. Washington already has one of the best pass-catching running backs in the NFL in Chris Thompson, who had 39 catches for 510 yards and four receiving touchdowns in 10 games last season. If Guice proves himself as a receiver as well, that’s going to be great news for new quarterback Alex Smith. (PFT)
^^Eagles liked this kid pre-draft. then he visited Philly and it all went to hell fast. He got into an argument with an assistant coach and all he wanted to do was play video games while in Philly. Not good. Hope he works out for the Redskins.
he better get his mind on football and not video games. playtime is over now and he's getting paid to play football, not Xbox.
Terrell Owens announced he has declined his invitation to his attend own HOF induction ceremony in August.
