MRI shows no structural damage for Darvish An MRI on Yu Darvish's right arm revealed no structural damage, and the Cubs right-hander should begin his throwing program this weekend or early next week. Darvish, who is on the disabled list for the second time this season, was scratched from his scheduled Sunday start and placed on the 10-day DL (retroactive to May 23) on Saturday because of discomfort in his right triceps. The Cubs said the MRI revealed Darvish has right triceps inflammation. With Darvish (1-3, 4.95 ERA) sidelined, Mike Montgomery is expected to start Saturday against the Mets. The Cubs wanted to be careful with Darvish since he missed the entire 2015 season after undergoing elbow surgery. The 31-year-old, who signed a six-year, $126 million contract with the Cubs in February, went on the DL on May 7 because of flu-like symptoms. In eight starts this season, Darvish has been unable to pitch past the fifth inning in five outings. (MLB.com)
https://www.cbssports.com/mlb/news/...ces-take-shape-and-heres-what-we-know-so-far/ I find it odd that the Phils are only 1 1/2 games out of first place and they weren't supposed to contend either and no mention of Kapler for MOY ? It's always about the freaking Braves. I see Freeman is their MVP too. Haha.
oh no he's still a dope, i don't want the head, i want the whole thing, but to not even be considered for MOY or runner-up per CBS after their 0-4 start to 1 1/2 games out of 1st place is a tad unfair. have you seen their starting 5? after Nola and Arrieta, it could be you, me and Will on their staff. Santana had a terrible April. JP Crawford, who was their #1 prospect for 3 yrs, looks to be a bust now, Kingery isn't worth anything let alone that huge extension they gave him, Hoskins has fallen off a cliff and just broke his jaw on a foul ball and is out indefinitely and Alfaro, although a solid catcher, is only batting .234. And this team is still near the top. What have the Braves done ? What adversity have they faced ?
Clayton Kershaw maxes out at 90 MPH in return from disabled list, will have MRI on back Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw returned from the 10-day disabled list to start against the Phillies at home on Thursday, having missed almost all of the month of May with left biceps tendinitis. He went five innings, giving up a lone run on four hits and a walk with five strikeouts on 62 pitches. It was an abbreviated outing by Kershaw’s standards, as he almost always throws 90-plus pitches, but it was understandable given that it was his first start back after nearly a month off. There may be more to the story, though, and it may not be good. Kershaw’s fastball topped out at 90 MPH on Thursday. He threw 28 four-seam fastballs which averaged just over 88 MPH, below his 2018 average of 91 MPH as well as his 2017 average of 92.7 MPH. Kershaw struck out the side in his final inning, but his pitch selection was telling: of the 11 pitches he threw, only one was a fastball. He struck Jorge Alfaro out on three consecutive sliders. He went change-up, curve, slider to Aaron Nola. To finish out the inning, he went slider, slider, curve, fastball, change-up to Cesar Hernandez. Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times reports that Kershaw’s back tightened up during the game. He will undergo an MRI and will not travel with the team to open a six-game road trip, three of which will be against the Rockies at Coors Field. Back issues are nothing new for Kershaw, but it has to be concerning for the Dodgers that it’s seemingly been one health problem after another for Kershaw in recent years. And for Kershaw, one wonders if the injury woes may make him hesitate to opt out of his contract after the season. If Kershaw doesn’t opt out, he’ll be under contract with the Dodgers in 2019-20 for a combined $65 million. (MLB.com)
He's got a $65MM pillow to land on, I don't think he's too worried about the opt out yet. This string of injuries is starting to slow down his Cooperstown Express a bit, though.
he already has 11 yrs in. he only needed 10 for the HOF. he's done more than 98% of all pitchers in the last 40 yrs. he's a lock. he's done better than Koufax on many levels and Koufax was in at the age of 35 and only played 12 yrs. Unless Kershaw's arm falls off, he keeps playing and adding to the resume. He's trotting to Cooperstown when it's over.
I think he's done enough and he's won 3 Cy Young's already and a MVP. His record is not Hall worthy (yet). His era is, but the awards put him over the top.
Six weeks after White Sox hurler Danny Farquhar suffered a brain hemorrhage, the pitcher returned to the mound. While he’s not expected to return to the Sox’ pitching staff this season, he enjoyed a touching moment with his teammates after tossing out the ceremonial first pitch prior to Friday’s game against the Brewers. Farquhar was joined on the mound by his wife and three children, as well as his teammates and the medical staff who helped facilitate his recovery. “The thing that caught me off guard was the whole team coming out to the mound,” the righty said in a media session on Friday. “I thought that was an incredibly special moment. Whoever’s decision that was, I’m sure it was James Shields. He’s an incredible leader that we have.” (He also revealed that he had spent plenty of time rehearsing the pitch with reliever Nate Jones, just to make sure the pitch wouldn’t bounce on the ground.)
Michael Wacha loses bid for no-hitter in ninth inning After the Cardinals added a run in the bottom of the eighth, Wacha lost his no-hitter to the first batter in the top of the ninth inning. Colin Moran lined a single to right field. Matheny took Wacha out of the game at that point, having thrown 111 pitches.
Eddie Rosario hits three homers, including walk-off against Indians Twins outfielder Eddie Rosario had himself an afternoon, drilling three home runs against the Indians on Sunday, including a walk-off two-run home run in the bottom of the ninth to give his team a 7-5 victory. He finished 3-for-5 with four RBI.
a lot of these big FA's this winter besides Harper and Machado aren't doing very well or are injured. Lots of money going out the window when their FA season goes to crap. Machalo is having a career year and could get anywhere from $400-500 million dollars and 10 yrs ! Harper is Harper and looks to cash in as well for the same amounts give or take a few pesos. lol.

Hall of Famer Schoendienst dies at 95 Spent 67 of his 76 years in baseball with Cardinals Red Schoendienst, a Hall of Famer who played 15 of his 19 Major League seasons with the Cardinals and later managed the club from 1965-76, passed away at the age of 95 on Wednesday. "Red was one of the greatest Cardinals of all time, and a beloved member of the Cardinals organization for over six decades," said Cardinals Principal Owner & Chief Executive Officer William O. DeWitt, Jr. "His influence on this organization cannot be overstated. Red was a great player, a great manager, and a wonderful mentor to countless players, coaches, and members of the front office. He was also a fan favorite who connected with millions of Cardinals fans across multiple generations. He will be sorely missed." "Red Schoendienst was one of the most beloved figures in the rich history of the St. Louis Cardinals, the franchise he served for 67 years," Commissioner Rob Manfred said. "He was a 10-time All-Star second baseman, a World Series champion as a player with the 1946 Cardinals and the 1957 Milwaukee Braves, and a championship-winning manager with the 1967 Cardinals. Red was a teammate, manager, and friend of some of the greatest players in the history of baseball. "The connection between Red and the fans of St. Louis spanned multiple generations and he was a wonderful ambassador for our game. On behalf of Major League Baseball, I extend my deepest condolences to Red's family, his many friends and admirers throughout our game, and Cardinals fans everywhere." The Schoendienst family provided the following statement: "Red Schoendienst has passed away today surrounded by his family. He had a life full of happiness for 95 years. He inspired all that knew him to always do their best. Red was a great ball player, but his legacy is that of a great gentleman who had respect for all. He loved his family, friends, teammates, the community and his country. He will be greatly missed." (MLB.com)
