^^^wait a minute. why is he out ? how many times does a hitter/runner run way past 1b on a hit ? so why is he out now? he thought about going to 2b but didn't make a full turn towards 2b. his body went a quarter way to 2b. help me out here ... ?
Technically you don't even have to run straight so long as you don't clearly make a move to advance to second.
In a surprising move, the Red Sox will designate first baseman/designated hitter Hanley Ramirez for assignment today in order to clear a spot on the roster for Dustin Pedroia, Alex Speier of the Boston Globe reports.
Wow, surprising is right. Its his worst season in his career so far, but everybody has to have a worst at some point. He should have no problem making someone else's roster... watch, he'll hit .300 and for power, lol. Anyway, just no room in that stacked Red Sox lineup.
With the exception of 2016 and the first month of this year, he's been terrible since coming back to Boston. I'm super excited that Cora will no longer feel compelled to run him out in the 3rd spot in the lineup every day, and that there's no longer any chance of the option for next year vesting. Even when Moreland reverts back to his career normal league average bat status, that and his excellent defense will still present a significant upgrade over Hanley. Having him and Pedroia on the right side of the infield will make the subpar D on the left side much more palatable after 2 months of Hanley and Nunez.
And don't get me wrong I like Nunez, he's a useful piece and I was happy the Sox re-signed him to cover 2B until Pedroia got back, but having Pedroia back is going to make this team so much better the rest of the way if he can stay healthy.
Rays trade Alex Colome, Denard Span to Mariners The Tampa Bay Rays were reported this week to be “open for business” as far as trades go. Normally that means nothing happens until late June or something. The Rays are getting right down to it, though, as they’ve just traded closer Alex Colome and outfielder Denard Span to the Seattle Mariners. The Mariners, who have played some outstanding ball lately thanks to some outstanding starting pitching, and are looking to bolster other areas as they make a push in the AL West, will likely slot Colome into a setup role in front of closer Edwin Diaz. Span will take over center field, allowing Dee Gordon to, eventually anyway, once he recovers from a fractured toe, cover for the suspended Robinson Cano at second base. If the M’s make the playoffs he’d likely do so in the postseason too, given that Cano will be ineligible for any October play due to his suspension. Colome has saved 11 games for the Rays, with a 4.15 ERA and a K/BB ratio of 23/8 in 21.2 innings.Span is hitting .238/.364/.385 with four homers and six stolen bases on the season. Two players are going back to the Rays: righties Andrew Moore and Tommy Romero. Moore was the Mariners’ second round pick in 2015 and made his big league debut last season, pitching 59 innings in 2018 but back in the minors so far in 2018. Romero was a 15th rounder for Seattle in 2017 and is currently plying his trade in A-ball. The Rays, as expected, are using the 2018 season to acquire prospects. The Mariners, who are unexpectedly strong in the early going, are trying to go for it even harder. Quite a big trade for late May. (NBC Sports)
The Cubs put Yu Darvish on the 10-day disabled list, retroactive to May 23, with right triceps tendinitis. Left-hander Randy Rosario was summoned from Triple-A Iowa. Darvish is 1-3 with a 4.95 ERA in eight starts for the Cubs. (MLB.com)
I don’t watch much baseball ⚾️ anymore, but didn’t the disabled list used to have a short stay of 15 days as opposed to 10.
It sure did. It was switched to help teams manage their rosters better and to protect injured players better. When they had the 15 day DL, some teams wouldn't set aside their star players because it was too long to do without him and it may have only been a minor injury that healed in a week, so the player is essentially healthy, but ineligible to play.
or pro-rate their day to come back from the date they left etc so it's exactly 10 days. an injury to an injury. don't rush them back too soon like Gid said.
