Where Do We Go From Here?

If anyone recalls what the stipulations are regarding being on / declining Hard Knocks, I would definitely appreciate you sharing. I would have to imagine that the league didn't have Cleveland first on its list. I'd be interested in how other teams might've gotten around it.

You have to be a non playoff team to be on hard knocks is the first stipulation.

So you're telling me we won't be eligible again in 2019?

Only because you can’t be on the show two years in a row. What will you guys do with pick #1 for the 2019 draft?

There are three (3) stipulations that allow a team to decline being on Hard Knocks.
    • Teams with a new Head Coach.
    • Teams that had a playoff berth in the last two years.
    • Teams that have appeared on Hard Knocks within the past ten years.
If none of those stipulations exist . . . the NFL can mandate a team to be featured.

    {edit}

The five other teams that did not have any of three stipulation present for 2018 were the Broncos, Chargers, 49ers, Ravens and Redskins.

First of all, why are the Jets going to trade the #1 pick to us? Is Darnold a bust and we trade them Taylor?

Once again, Gid, you're full of shit. Teams can and have been featured two years in a row. Being featured one year simply means you can decline being featured the next year if you so choose.

Interesting. Many thanks Lyman - that's exactly what I was looking for.

From what I've heard over the years, no team has volunteered for it / not turned it down when able. So, let's work on the presumption that the first team to be approached that was unable to turn it down based on those criteria was the Browns. Who would be the teams that were eliminated from that discussion? That would give us our pool of teams, at the top of which was Cleveland, for the NFL's choice.

When I get a second from work, I'll see which teams fit that criteria. That's an interesting discussion.

I added those teams in an edit (above).

100 points for Lyman. Spectacular, man. I really appreciate that.

First, I didn't realize how short a list that would be! Wow. Second, out of that bunch, the Browns were arguably the best choice. I don't think it's an argument, when you count factors beyond just the potential on-screen interest, and try to project the positive consequences of featuring them.

You can be on Hard Knocks 2 times in a row. You can volunteer or be enticed to waive your exemption.

Wazoo, I have nothing against you. You are a respectful poster and sometimes I'm a little too intense about things...Fair enough?...,. It's just that I KNOW that the only reason you say things like, "I'm rooting for the Browns to do well.", is because you are completely confident that your Steelers have nothing to worry about....Well I got news for ya buddy boy (<John Dorsey line). The Browns are already on your heels as the 2nd best team in the North (talent wise)...So when we knock you guys off your little perch week 1, I feel certain you will remember that YOU don't like the Browns. Perhaps then, the world can return to normalcy.... The best rivalry in the NFL is about to be rekindled....I can't wait. :max:

  14. Wow the disappointment you are setting yourself up for again...2nd best in the division when you went 0-16, new QB, lost the Browns best player in the last 10 yrs, same HC, same DC who puts his players in a position to fail and a new offensive system...for your sake let’s hope they win a few games this year

I hate to disappoint you TD, but I have a bet the Browns will be in the Super Bowl in the next 3 years. Not sure how I believe the Steelers have nothing to worry about. I know you may not see many Steeler fans in your area, but this one can be objective and appreciate talent no matter where it appears.

  16. How much did u bet? Can I get in on the action lol

If I knew you IRL I would.

  18. That’s stealing Waz...Browns need to win a few games before there is any talk of SBs lol

I made the bet 2 years ago. I stated that I expect Cleveland to make it to the Super Bowl in 5 years. I still do. My only concern is the coaching. I expected more out of Hue by now.

Don't worry about Hue. Has he made some WTF decisions from the sideline? Yep . . . He sure has. So have Bill Belichick, Pete Carroll and Mike Tomlin. ALL NFL coaches do. The biggest reason Hue went 1-31 was the roster he was given over those 1st two years.
