Social media seems to be skewering Hue for this, but his media mouthpiece, Mary Kay Clickbait, is reporting it's at the advice of doctors for waiting so long. Evidently he has a stent in his heart. You'd think 1-31 would be tougher on the system (ego) than a quick plunge into near-freezing water while wearing a wetsuit.

Tough to argue that...It HAD to dawn on Hue by week 4 or 5 last year that 1-15 or worse was possible with Kizer starting, and that letting Josh McCown out of town was undoubtedly one of the dumbest things this franchise ever did. For me, that was the toughest part about last season. Watching McCown win games for the Jets. We asked him to be a coach, but didn't want him as a QB. smh....Because of that, we are in the record books FOREVER for an era that we'd love to forget. 0-16 could have easily been avoided if the personnel people didn't have their heads up their asses when it came to the value of the Quarterback. It's amazing how naive they were, especially at this level of football... Not saying he was the personnel guy,but I still don't know how Hue hung on to his job... there must be a reason. All I can say is, after completely ignoring the QB position for two straight years, the Browns put their fans, and the players in that locker room through complete hell...It brought us 1 victory in 32 attempts. Most cities wouldn't have tolerated a third of what Browns fans have been through for the last 20 years... ...But it's ALL history. We will be a competitive football team from here out. I don't blame Jimmy Haslam. At least he wasn't just ignoring the franchise like Lerner. He keeps trying new shit, and I think he got it right this time. The Baker Mayfield/Todd Haley offense is going to put the Browns back on the map for sure....
Was watching some You tube, and saw a discussion about which QB in AFC North should be most concerned about his status with a rookie "replacement" having been drafted. Duh..... Taylor. That said, the discussion touched on Taylor's general ability / rank among the starters discussed. What I found interesting was one guy talking about Taylor holding the job for better than half the season, and being replaced only when the losses mount. Then another talking head, don't remember which said Taylor has already "proven" he isn't an NFL "franhise QB", and that Mayfield will be in as soon as he's got the playbook down. "He took his team to the playoffs" laments the first guy, to which the response was, he had a great running game and a great D, they took the Bills to the playoffs. I'm in the camp of "he's taken his team to the playoffs", and I think he'll enjoy a very good running game, coupled with a pretty damn good reciever corps, and still have a strong D. The one knock I heard that I don't disagree with is "he's careful with the football to a fault". Maybe so, but it's not as if he had guys he could expect to bring down contested balls either, so maybe some better quality recievers, will allow him to open it up a bit. Anyway, I was looking for some feedback on where you see his play, and how soon we turn to the Baker? As for me: I'd love to see Taylor do well enough to hold us to 500, and hand the keys over to Baker at the Bye. Thoughts?
He's a very athletic guy that won't mess it up, but he's not going to carry a team anywhere. He will allow all players on the team the chance to develop and play at a reasonable pace and snap count simply because they will play a more standard game. He's certainly FAR better than anything we've had of late, and he's good enough that opponents won't be able to just stack the box on Chubb, Hyde and Johnson.
I don't know that there is a bigger Baker guy than me... and I still want him on the bench for as much of the season as we can afford. I think watching a vet like Tyrod play while having another vet like Stanton in his ear working through the game with him will do him wonders. As for what to expect from Tyrod - between him and Jarvis Landry, I firmly believe we can get out of the 2016-2017 Browns' favorite down-and-distance: third-and-long. Tyrod converted 73.5% of his third/fourth-and-short down attempts in 2017. That's better than Russell Wilson (63.6), Tom Brady (63.4) and Aaron Rodgers (67.4, 2016). Of all the samples I checked, only Jared Goff (74.2) and Carson Wentz (with a staggering 87.2) were better - and those guys have two of the best coordinators in the NFL. Add on top of that Jarvis Landry who's an extension of the running game and makes tough catches. On third/fourth-and-short he was perfect (20 receptions, 20 first downs). Just keeping the offense on the field longer is going to do wonders for every facet of the team - defense will be better rested, special teams won't constantly be playing from behind, and we might actually get a chance to get the running game going.
SAS... I think Browns fans are going to be very disappointed in Landry. He seems to disappear when you need him most. IMHO he gets most of his catches and yardage during garbage time. Getting a 4 yard catch with 5 minutes left in the game for a first down when Miami was down by 21 isn't impressive to me. I'm sure you can look this up, but he seemed to catch most of his balls in the 4th QTR. Much easier to do when a team isn't worried about 5-7 yard catches while bleeding the clock. I can't think of a time when he helped Miami win a game. Not that it didn't happen, but I'm sure it didn't happen very often.
Very disappointed? Look... I agree that if people are expecting him to come in and become some kind of game-changing receiver (he isn't), than for sure they're going to be disappointed. Instead, what they should be focusing on is getting a guy - like Landry - who'll be sure-handed and reliable. If you need three yards, he gets you five. If you need seven yards, he gets you five. By having a true outlet guy like Landry, that should open things up in the passing game to create match-ups on guys like Josh Gordon and David Njoku - who possess that game-breaking ability. As far as his splits (career)... Yes, he did pick up more of his receptions in losses (239) than wins (161). And more in the second half of contests (220) than the first (181). However... that was for another team with different quarterbacks, coaches, and receivers - and often he was asked to be "the guy". For me, the biggest split number to look at is 2nd & 4-6, where he converted 67.5% of targets and 79.4% of receptions into first downs. That was his largest share of first downs and best overall numbers, outside of 3rd/4th & short where he was a perfect 100%. Some Browns numbers from 2017 on 2nd & 4-6: Corey Coleman - 0% Josh Gordon - 0% Rashard Higgins - 100% (1 first down) Richardo Louis - 66.7% (2 first downs) Kenny Britt - 50% (1 first down) The team was *carried* by the tight ends and running back (Duke Johnson) and even at that, they only converted 50% of attempts and 82% of receptions - as a team. Landry hit 79.4% by himself.
The thing is. It's hard to blame the skepticism. Almost everything this franchise has done for the last 20 years has blown up in their face like a party favor...I have a true appreciation for the tenacity with which Jarvis Landry plays the game. Unless he just decides to pull the ol "Kenny Britt" and 'mail it in", I believe Browns fans are going to LOVE Jarvis Landry. The biggest frustration for me the past two years was watching our offense consistently fail on 3rd down and (3 to 5) yards. It's almost been guaranteed that we won't pick it up. Kizer was the worst of all time, but we just didn't have anybody else to turn to... What Landry will do for this offense is SO freaking big it can't even be measured. Let Wazoo expect failure, what else is new? Every GREAT WR needs that "other" WR that can draw some coverage. Josh Gordon is going to benefit more than anyone by the presence of Landry. So will David Njoku. None of these guys have EVER had this much talent around them. The Browns offense is going to be explosive Steeler fans. Yer jus gonna have to come to terms with it..

My prediction; Your delusional RB looks exactly the same as he did in last year's opener, due to the exact same reasons, thus rendering the notoriously slow starting Ben Roethlisberger into a one dimensional attack. Miles Garrett and company can pin their ears back and hound him all over the field, and our upper echelon secondary has a field day picking him off right and left.... Browns pull the MILD upset with ease, dominating the Steelers 31-13. And a new tone is set in the AFCN.

I can see the TE’s getting help w Landry, but Gordon has very little to do w it....the LBs may not get as deep as drops w Landry running 3-5 yd crossing routes and allowing the TE’s to get into the intermediate level depending on the LBs drop....personally I just shadow/man Landry w a fast DB and take that part of his game away(shallow crosses, out routes, slants)...make him get down the field on his routes
