    tech: Quadre and Thomas could be keepers

    I couldn't agree more on Thomas. Perhaps it's the FSU uniform, but to me he looks all the world like Lawrence Timmons. Not that bulky "V" shaped 250-60 lb. body but long and lean and still very capable of stomping ball carriers off their feet. He's snapping peoples heads on tackles, never mind yac. It was either SK or B&G who said he'd better get over the headhunting as the NFL will eat his lunch, and I certainly agree, but that should be coach-able.

    Quadre, who's speed I love is on another platform. Between breaking in to an already elite and full rec. corp his only real shot is at KR, which is a dying play in the NFL and even as of last year ... how many chance did KR's get ? He has a harder furrow to till IMO, but would be a great PS asset.

    I was thinking Timmons too. He looks really capable. Love his size.

    I hear ya on Quadre. True. Would be a nice luxury if they had room and could get him involved here and there. Depth at least.

    Our beloveds are favorites in 13 of their 1st 15 games but dont let that fool you as I’m going with history and expecting them to struggle like they always do in certain cities and against certain teams. I expect a loss at Jacksonville simply because they don’t match up well against them and a loss at Oakland because they always seem to lay an egg there.
    And don’t forget their struggles at Denver.

    They have a very very tough schedule. Overall the QBs on the schedule are better than last year. Expect the same defensive shenanigans, being out coached every now and then, and bad Ben to have his moments.

    I think the team is still too finesse and not tough enough to win a SB. We’ll see where they stand after the Jacksonville game but I won’t be surprised if they have an 8-8 season.

    Sorry I don’t mean to be negative. I will cheer and hope for them to win every game but I’ve seen enough nonsense under this current regime not to get too excited for the upcoming season. You have been advised.

    Well. After that glowing preview, I’m considering my resignation from Doom & Gloom HQ.

    I am usually optimistic this time of year, but especially this year. This defense has been quietly overhauled with improvements (not saying they are great but they are improved). The offense should be as good or better. Love that Rudolph is there if Ben goes down, and love that he is there as a threat that should push Ben.

    I am excited.

  12. Who replaces the deep threat of Bryant?

    Bryant wasn't all that critical to the Steelers' success last season. I expect Washington to deliver like JuJu did last year because all the pressure will be off as coverages will lean towards Brown and JuJu, leaving Washington in winnable situations. Bell will have to be accounted for as a receiver as well. Two tight ends capable of catching the ball and scoring, etc.

    I believe if we win a SB that Rudolph is responsible for it one way or another. Either he pushes Ben to play at a higher level than ever before, or he takes Ben’s place and wins some.

    I hope your first scenario is correct. I don't think your second could possibly be correct. If the Steelers have to rely on Rudolph to play more than a game, the playoffs are out of the picture. IMHO

    I personally worry that Ben will not rise to the task instead, have a 3 year olds type of tantrum and cost quite a few games.

    showstopper;
    Who replaces the deep threat of Bryant?

    Truth is 2017 stats for Bryant were 50 rec. on 84 targets, 603 yards avg. 12.1 with a long of 51 all season. Most people do think of Bryant as that long distance receiver from his rookie and 2nd year. He was not played that way last year because J2S2 took most if his snaps.

    The point being the Steelers didn't die on that hill because Bryant didn't "go long". They died on that hill because our (Shazierless) defense was porous and, especially against Jax, our offense certainly scored enough points to win an NFL game, even though TO's and some very poor OC decisions were made inhibiting the offense from staying on the field (and thereby Jax offense off) to secure a win.

    tech;
    I expect Washington to deliver like JuJu did last year

    as do we all, as he has shown 4 years of pedigree as much, and am in hopes his Biletnikoff shows through to the professional level. He'll have every opportunity considering the other receivers on this team taking off all the pressure from a rookie with outstanding qualities to begin with.

    time will tell .... can't wait ! aj: let's see what happens !

    Mason Rudolph was signed as well

    Quadre's chance to make team may have gone up since NFL said the no wedge rule should encourage more kickoff returns.
