2018 NFL DRAFT - GENERAL THREAD

Discussion in 'Cleveland Browns' started by Dogside18, Apr 24, 2018.

  1. Just asking...did it go up last yr when everyone was soooo excited when the Browns were 4-0 in preseason? You guys set yourself up for a down football season talking .500 record, playoffs, etc...smh....just a side note...every team in the division got better and they were already ahead of the Browns

"Why Lamar Jackson will be starting, and soon."

    Because Joe Flacco is bad?

Going back to that depth chart, I think EJ Gaines probably starts.

Only two takers on the Over/Under for 2018 wins?

Lets stir the pot a little. Here's a few more.

    1. Number of games Corey Coleman actually plays in before breaking a bone. Over/Under =5.5

    2. Number of weeks before Antonio Calaway is suspended for smoking pot. Over/Under = 7.5

    3. Number of weeks (counting pre-season) until this fan base starts pounding the table for their shiny new 1st Round QB to be named starter. Over/Under = 2.5

I've been stewing on this for a couple of days, and I think I'm ready to weigh-in.

1.1. Love the Mayfield Pick. I think he's honestly the best in the class, and I don't think he'd have been there at 4. Zero faith in the other prospects.
1.4. I was heartbroken when we passed on Chubb. Nothing wrong with Ward, and I can see where we had a greater need at CB, but I'm of the opinion that a great DE tandem can help a mediocre CB a lot more than a great CB can help a mediocre (not suggesting our *starting* DEs are mediocre) DE tandem. I guess the math (que @SAS) needs to be done to see which does which. Does coverage force a QB to hold longer and cause sacks, or does pressure force a QB to throw quicker and cause incompletions/interceptions?

The other picks are fine by me. Let's just skip to the controversial pick of the young jackass WR. The first 15 minutes after the pick was made, I was unsure. Now, I am on board.

I think that pick MIGHT have been made FOR Josh Gordon. Dorsey is big on being a leader of men. I've been in positions of leadership for the vast majority of my adult life (a blink compared to @Lyman and @bluez), and I can tell you that I have made similar decisions many times with the thousands of young men that I have been responsible for over the years. In my platoon right now I have an instance where I have a knuckle headed Corporal that I have been reigning in and trying to get back in line. He's been performing to standard for a few months now, and seems to be "getting it". I had a very similar Lance Corporal check into my platoon in February. I pulled the Corporal in and had a strong heart to heart with him about the mistakes he's made, the price he's paid, and the progress that he's made. I told him that I was assigning him as a mentor to this new Lance Corporal and that he'd be personally accountable for the young man. The Corporal has positively blossomed. He showed up in a brand new uniform, perfectly groomed, and with a new bounce in his step. He has been an absolute boon to my platoon where he was a burden at times in the past. I have not had an ounce of trouble out of him, I can see his self respect, pride and effort redoubled, and he is trying hard to pry his way into positions of greater responsibility. Night and day. Maybe this is Dorsey's plan. Maybe not.

I am over on our W/L total. Our 5 wins will come against the Jets, Raiders, Chargers, Bengals and Ravens. All things are subject to health and availability of players on all concerned teams. possible wins over the Steelers, Buccs, Chiefs and Texans.

Corey Coleman will not play a full schedule, but I will go out on a limb and say he won't break a bone.

If Calaway is suspended for pot, it will be retroactively for the combine test (if legal)

Baker Mayfield fans are already beating the war drums.

I like the W/L total at 3. Jets, Bengals...aww fuk, make it two.

OK I go for the Over on Coleman, but I'm wondering if I'll care

I also go Over on Calloway, and hope I care

I'll go under on the #of games before the screams for Mayfield get out of hand, but only if those games are losses.

Drinking some KoolAid for sure, but I'd like to see Taylor do well, and maybe build some value as trade bait to some team bordering on playoff contention, who's QB goes down. I really wish he'd been given a 2 year deal, so we'd have him through the next off season to use as a draft pick weapon. I actually think he has and will continue to be an NFL QB who is a top half QB. Maybe no one's savior, but a guy who will deliver, if not carry a team.

Watched a short interview of Dorsey on GMFB yesterday. Kinda weird.

The four cast members were trying to have some fun with the questions, and Dorsey was like Mount Rushmore. No evidence of a sense of humor at all.

I felt like I was watching an interview with a suspected serial killer. Just very uncomfortable. I don't know why, but it made me uncomfortable too. Maybe he's just a stiff in front of the cameras.

Using this as a reference point, Is there any way, anyone (outsiders included), that can argue this isn't a DRASTIC change to the roster from last year's 0-16 season?

In 2017, Ogbah and Garrett only played together for 5 games...those overlapped games produced 6 sacks from the duo...Without Ogbah in 6 games, Garrett had 2 sacks, without Garrett in 5 games, Ogbah had 2 sacks...A fully healthy Ogbah and Garrett, along with a healthy Jamie Collins who only had 6 games on the year should make for a marked improvement on defense without even counting in the upgrades at CB and S, which are drastic all on their own.

The offense is a totally different unit altogether. In 2017, we had a QB room that had a grand total of ZERO wins in 9 starts and only 2 years of experience between three QBs..

In 2018, We have 33 wins in 50 starts, 15 years experience and the #1 overall draft pick make up our QB room. If that doesn't shout change, I don't know what to tell you all...you need hearing aids.

Now, I understand injuries can always play an enormous part in a teams effectiveness and 2018 could look more bleak if major pieces fall...However, in 2017 major pieces certainly fell and they had practice squad at best players filling in for the fallin in most cases...This is a new look Browns team.
