Lookin forward to it. How many is that now? lol!...Playing CB is about athleticism. Experience is great, but not the most important factor...Rookies can step in and dominate at CB, and I think Ward will...

I just figured since so many were criticizing the pick, because everybody had a chubby for Chubb, that I'd go the other way...I have complete confidence that Ward will be a quick study, and a rock solid NFL CB.

Hell, I'll just go ahead and predict DROY, since I'm already all in. Chalk it up....Assuming Ward stays healthy, I can easily see him taking the hardware.

I think in Cleveland Ward will shadow the other team's best WR, wherever he happens to line up.

I believe that is what Cleveland expects to do with him as well, with T.J. Carrie lined in the slot and Gaines or Calhoun on the other side.

His level of success will determine how long he remains in that role.

"I will admit that Antonio is on the absolute top of his game...If you admit, at the age of 30, he will be losing steps faster than it will take to get Mason Rudolph on the field(circa 2 years to Ben retirement)."

I'm no English major but this reads to me that it will take 2 years to get Rudolph on the field and Brown (at the age of 30) will be losing steps faster than that.

Why not let Ward get fitted for a helmet before he fitted for a gold jacket.

Why not let him get fitted for the helmet before you blast the pick?

Notice the common theme among those that liked ur post...non Browns fans, all expecting or hoping it's typical Cleveland pick...

Honestly, I just thought what he said sounded clever.

As for Ward I think he's a pretty good player, but as with all draft picks I'll wait a few years before I make an assessment one way or the other.

I'm not blasting the pick. I've already gone on record that he's a very talented player. What I am blasting is this . . .

The dude hasn't even been issued his 1st helmet yet and you have him down as among the top CB's (not in this draft class but) in the entire NFL.

    That's ridiculous.

You may be exactly right TD, but I think Rookie CBs stepping in and dominating is the exception and not the rule. If my memory holds true, most good or even great CBs have had to take their bumps and learn their first years.

  12. TopDawg Legend

No, you blasting the Browns all weekend was ridiculous...I'm sorry you don't understand how it works with CB's....It's the same as RB's basically. If you are physically dominant and possess the skill set, you can step right in and be among the NFL's elite. It's not some 3 year plan with CB's.

It's not crazy. There's a reason he went top 4. Most CB's could never sniff even being in the conversation for such a pick. ....Ward is physically superior to any CB you wanna compare him to. I don't even know why I have to point that out. Some of you guys are acting like this is some mid 3rd round shlepp from Purdue that you just aren't sure about..C'mon!!! lol!. That's ridiculous.

Of course it's the exception wazoo...That's why CB is such a valued position. There aren't many elite cover guys. How often do you think CB's get drafted inside the top 5?

Obviously "dominating" is over the top terminology. I'm just havin fun....But he is a Buckeye. And I do expect it....So fuck it. I'm goin there...lol!

Let's talk a little NFC West football...

If I'm ranking the draft grades in order, I have to go:
    1. Arizona
    2. Seattle
    3. San Francisco
    4. Los Angeles
Kind of a tough group to rank in the middle because I felt the 49ers and the Seahawks both had decent drafts, and the Rams did a pretty solid job of maximizing the limited draft capital they had.

Some of my favorite picks from each team -

    Los Angeles Rams:
    • Ogbonnia Okoronkwo - I think he's a solid addition as an edge for Wade. He's got the motor and some traits, so turn him loose and let him get after it. The Rams are retooling the defense and this feels like a value pick to pair opposite of Ekubam early on.
    • Micah Kiser - Nothing flashy here, just a solid football guy to compete for an inside shot at linebacker.
    • Tegray Scales - I think this is a solid UDFA signing and one that not only makes the roster but sees some snaps in 2018.
    San Francisco 49ers:
    • Mike McGlinchey - Immediate upgrade at right tackle and a future starter at left. High value pick in the top of the first and it's always a good idea to strengthen up the offensive line for your new franchise quarterback.
    • Fred Warner - They needed to add depth at linebacker and Warner's cover skills will be a big help in an NFC West that is quickly stacking up talent at quarterback.
    • Tarvarius Moore and D.J. Reed - I thought both of these picks were strong value picks for the secondary and considered both players to be a bit undervalued by the majority of analysts.

    Seattle Seahawks:
    • Rashaad Penny - This pick has grown on me more and more since the opening day. Penny profiles as a 3 down back and immediately helps Russell Wilson by forcing opposing defenses to command some attention on the running back.
    • Shaquem Griffin - The story is nice, but the football player works extremely well for the Seahawks. Let him fly all over the field and make plays starting in subpackage football and see if his ceiling makes him a starter at linebacker.
    • Tre Flowers - Incredibly underrated safety in this draft class and a welcome addition to the Seattle secondary. Flowers has the ability to develop into a long term starter for the Seahawks.
    • Jamarco Jones - The value here is what makes this pick notable.
    Arizona Cardinals:
    • Josh Rosen - I felt like the Cardinals may be on the outside looking in when it came to getting a quarterback in this draft so landing Josh Rosen is a pretty big deal. I think they found there answer at franchise quarterback for years to come.
    • Christian Kirk - Draft the quarterback of the future, and then draft the wide receiver for him to grow with. Kirk can become the ideal safety blanket for a young quarterback.
    • Chase Edmonds - Edmonds is my 7th ranked running back and represents very good value in the 4th. Pairing him up with David Johnson gives the Cardinals the potential to have one of the more dynamic running duos in 2018.

Logan and Foster will be feeling some heat. Competition should be very motivational for that backfield crew.

Love the rankings Tim...IF Rosen dedicates his life to his profession, the Cards may have gotten the steal of the draft only giving up #15, a 3rd and a 5th...Wow, that took some balls to wait that long, then got the deal of the decade. I know that trade value wise, is wasn't that great of a deal:

    #15 = 1050
    #79 = 195
    #152 = 30.2
    Total = 1275.2

    #10 = 1300

But that was in order to draft their QB of the future...Which is why it was the deal of a decade.

Now, for me, Josh Rosen was my 4th QB when it was all said and done..I just don't like the guy for some reason and I can't put my finger on the specific thing I saw/didn't see in his interviews, I just didn't like him and so I moved him down the board past Jackson on my final board. However, the golden arm doesn't lie. He has the skill set to be the best QB in this draft class. I just don't trust he has the drive that it takes in this league. I think he ends up with a similar career to Andy Dalton, good, but never really sniffing any talk of the best QBs in the league currently, let alone of all time. I could be wrong, which would make this trade even more epic.

One of the most interesting aspects of how people put together there personal rankings is how they take into account a players personality. I stopped doing it awhile back because it felt like it was causing too much conflict with how I viewed players. When we put together the more advanced metric it removed any chance of that being involved from the equation and now, even if I feel like a player may have the type of personality to lead or to bust, I just ignore it and stick to my numbers. That's one of the reasons that the Browns' Callaway pick was so intriguing to me. My score (656=mid to late third) didn't have anything to do with the red flags and where they took him was really close to the value I had placed on him. It will be interesting to see how well he performs if he can keep his head out of the smoke and in the playbook.

This quarterback group really brings that aspect into focus as each of these guys have such a varying way of leading. If I had to re-rank them based on personality and my impression of each of these prospects, combined with the scoring I already have, I don't think I would move the needle much, but if I was to take out my scoring and simply rank them on the eye ball test and how I think they may do on a character level, it would probably end up with a different looking board.

Curious, I thought you had an element for off the field issues in your scoring?

I have something listed under 'Tenacity' that involves a players on field intensity and it shows up for blocking and defensive motor.

It's probably Rosen's millenialness. Is there a more punchable face in the NFL now? I doubt it! Move over Jay Cutler.
