Landry is falling due to a previously undisclosed back and knee injury. Rumors are that he will continue to slide because of the suggested severity.
Browns get their insurance policy WR for Josh Gordon. Antonio Calloway, Florida. Only problem here: He was suspended by the Gators for the entire 2017 season - and - was red flagged for failed maijuana tests. BRILLIANT !!!
Now that it's over Congrats Browns fans. It has to be great to target a guy and then have your team pull the trigger. Best of luck, you deserve some football happiness.
3 rookie QBs in the AFCN . 5 years from now we will find out who got the best. Rudolph & Jackson should be in position to have started a couple of seasons and Mayfield should be a 4 year starter by then. My money is on Rudolph
It certainly is an interesting scenario with 3 of the top 6 going to the same division...But I would absolutely take that bet Gid! Since my top pick was chosen, it's pretty obvious who I think it will be. Thanks Beach...I've actually been on cruise control since #1 overall was announced. I raised an eyebrow at a few other picks, but I personally can't bring myself to complain, because I think the got the biggest decision correct. We will see...
Good to see that the draft thread took off a little. My plan was to be on here in real time during the draft but due to a family emergency I only had my phone (I prefer the laptop for message boarding). So I was relegated to arguing with people on twitter, which does have it's own merits. Overall I think they did good. I don't get the argument that any team reached on any player. Really, they all have their own boards set up and they draft accordingly. They all get their guy and can't really guess how anyone else might have players ranked. Needless to say they got their QB. Dorsey identified lack of speed in the defensive backfield and added a sub 4.4, lockdown cover corner who they feel should open up the pass rush. Got a starting caliber running back. Starting caliber WR (I think both WR will make the roster, Coleman will be gone). Got depth at ILB, DE, and DB which doesn't bode well for Howard Wilson. I have no issue with Calloway. The Browns are now veterans at handling players with substance abuse problems and can handle this. They're fielding a football team, not a church choir, they'll be fine. If not, it was a calculated risk and worth it.
It seems to me that the arguments criticizing the draft choices Dorsey & Co. made are about the "individuals" drafted, not the draft strategy. You can certainly argue that you didn't think Mayfield should have been #1, but let's remember that, having made that choice, they only eliminated 2 guys from who they could take at #4, Darnold (irrelvant since they had already taken the QB they wanted) and Saquon. In other words, they only guy they couldn't choose at #4 was Barkley. They took Ward. So unless you really thought they should have taken Barkley #1, they didn't really lose anything by taking Mayfield #1. Now, from a "who they took" standpoint, we could argue all day about that, but it is really hard to argue that they gave up anything other than Barkley. In other words, the only other option they could have done, was to take Barkley #1, and "hope" Mayfield was there at 4. Clearly they placed the QB position #1, and Mayfield in particular. Dorsey, it should be no surprise, didn't think any RB was worthy of the #1 pick, and I for one agree with that. My choice would have been different, I would have taken the other Chubb, rather than Ward, but, I get it, we need to cover Brown and Green 4 times each year.
After the draft, I still have concerns at LT, and at WR. LT because, well there's no Joe Thomas, and the WRs, because Gordon is, as so eloquently stated before "one piss test from being gone", and Coleman is, unfortunately a question mark, not the #1 reciever we thought we drafted, so far. I am hoping that Tyrod and Landry can make both better. I further hope that we aren't stepping into the same trap with our new suspension risk Calloway. It scares me to bring in a guy already identified with that issue, and pair him with a guy who is still fighting that same issue. It seems naive to think all 4 of those issues go our way: Coleman comes through, Gordon & Calloway stay clean, and we get one of our potential LTs performs adequately or better.
I really thought they should have taken Barkley at #1. And, frankly, I'm getting tired of explaining why over and over. What's done is done.
If I wanted Barkley at 1, then Chubb or Ward wouldn't be in the conversation now, would it. What's done is done.
Of course they would...what if it went your top 2 QBs at 2 n 3 and u had Chubb and Ward rated higher than lets say Rosen and Allen
