Just realized that one of the more interesting story lines in this draft for me personally will be Baker Mayfield vs Mason Rudolph. They end up in the same division facing off with one guaranteed to get the reigns of the franchise and the other will have to earn it over the course of at least this season and probably next. Most people had Baker near the top of their QB rankings and Rudolph at 5 or 6. Since I had Mason at the top and Mayfield at #4, it sets things up for an almost side by side comparison at the pro level.
For one I don't believe A. Smith will have anywhere near the weapons he had in KC. The rest of the division has improved IMHO. The Redskins have a loyalty problem that seems to systematically eat away at the team.
Quin steadily slid on my board as the process wore on. He ended up at the #15 safety on my rankings (my board shows the right score, wrong spot) with what would equate to a 5th round pick but his lack of special traits stands out. He'll end up in a camp somewhere but he probably is a long shot to make a roster.
I agree that he didn't really have a special trait. I was still surprised that his size, pedigree, and production didn't get him a spot late in the draft though.
Thanks for the response. My quick thoughts - I believe Alex Smith is an upgrade over Kirk Cousins and with the addition of Derius Guice it works to put him in a lot of play-action situations that suit his game. They are probably in the best situation to make some improvement on last season out of the teams in the NFC East, with NYG being second. I'll get more in depth with what I think their record might be after I get the rest of my draft info worked up and look at some match-ups.
While I agree with most of what you said. I think A. Smith's game doesn't suit the Redskins talent as well as Cousins. How long will it take Smith to get comfortable with the new team and new scheme? Smith is ultra-conservative. It has taken many years for him to feel comfortable to be more aggressive. I have watched him very closely over his career. Many times he ran the ball on 3rd and long or even 4th and long so he wouldn't get the INT. I don't see that flying if he reverts back to that in Washington.

Those are legit concerns, but with the Redskins he has an immediate level of comfort because of the commitment they made to him contractually. Also, there is no competition on the roster and the Redskins have stated they don't intend to put him in that situation during the length of his deal. It's the first time that a team has gone all in with Alex and I expect him to come in and play like he did last season because of the confidence that he has gained both in his play and in his reward for it. The play-makers for the Redskins are a different lot, but there is some talent there at TE and if Doctson can remain healthy he has a red zone target to go along with Crowder who is an underneath chain mover. And don't forget the signing of Paul Richardson. I think in 3 WR sets you'll have Richardson and Doctson outside with Crowder underneath and Jordan Reed at tight end. That's a pretty solid group of 8 hands to work with.
Toby Weathersby and Jeremy Reaves to the Eagles. 2 guys that actually have a shot to crack the roster.
BPA by far IMO. He has injury flags so fell but if he holds up he is in instant starter territory for some teams including your Browns.
