I can't believe we haven't taken any ILB so far. I know that in the early going there weren't guys who aligned with where the Steelers were picking. And maybe the team is happy with their free agent pick-ups. I will worry about the ILB spot the rest of the off-season.

  2. Lyman "Franchise Asshole" Browns Buckeyes

Oh, how I can only wish my Browns had someone like Kevin Colbert. A week ago, I thought it impossible for someone to fuck up the Browns' draft given the picks they had and the spots those picks were in.

John Dorsey has proven me wrong.

Don't panic yet. Initially reactions to the draft are often wrong. Maybe some of the Browns' picks will end up being better than the guys you would have preferred.

But then again, we are talking about the Browns...

    Steelers pick is in...
Jaylen Samuels, FB from NC State.
That's a head-scratcher. Great numbers, but he's not an ILB. I'm surprised with how some of this draft has gone.

With their 2nd pick in the 5th round, the Steelers select

    Jaylen Samuels TE, NC State
    Height: 5-11 Weight: 223

    Draft Prospect Outlook:

Multiple-role offensive skill-position player. Size a running back. Had H-back duties at NC State. Has run a variety of routes. Above-average but not spectacular elusiveness and burst into the second level. Very smart, balanced runner. Reliable hands, especially in traffic over the middle.

Huh. The Steelers Twitter account lists him as a RB?

Interesting. Just watched film on him.

He played everywhere on offense, at least the skill positions (even taking direct snaps in the shotgun). Really versatile threat. Generally speaking, he's a terrific offensive toy. And at this spot, his value is good. I'm just flabbergasted that the team is ignoring defense, though at this point in the draft there might be no real contributors left that suit their defensive needs.

Once Vander Esch and Evans we’re gone the pool dried up quickly. I looked at the ILB rankings after the top 4 prospects and nobody screamed : explosive, sleeper, upside or great character. It was more: played well within in his system, contributor, solid ... tkose aren’t the guys you run to the podium for. Who knows maybe an UDFA will surprise all of us.

They way they’re drafting, maybe Edmunds is going to be moved to ILB and Allen the slow reacting safety replacement for Mitchell

Watched some of the OSU vs VT game, first glance it osu’s offense looks very similar to what most of us want the Steelers offense to look like: fast paced, lots of crossing routes, with the threat of the deep ball. Maybe I was wrong about Rudolph...don’t know if he’ll be a franchise QB but he did look a little like Ben. Not afraid of contact, not the greatest spirals, underthrows some deep passes and gives his guys a chance to make plays on the ball. He has confidence in his guys to win those 50-50 passes...need to see him against NFL competition before naming him the next franchise QB for the Steelers

Keep an eye on OSU’s RB for next year’s draft. Only watched a little and I was intrigued.

    Fortune favors the bold.

Another gem in the rough ... this is why I so trust in the Steeler FO and staff ... wow... just wow... Mr. Everything. Ben is one happy QB.

I love when people want to use this as a reason why teams are right (and thus fans dont know crap). Those same experts drafted Jarvis Jones, Ziggy Hood, and Dri Archer (and those are just the Steelers experts). I could go with how other teams have drafted crap despite their experts but being this is the Steelers board lets stick to them.

Just because our beloved Steelers said that Edmunds was the best player on their board available when they picked doesn't mean they are right. I hope they are but its hard to get excited about a guy who most projected late second or third round going to your team in the first even if its late int he first. Its also not like they have a fantastic record of late when it comes to nabbing DBS either in the draft or through free agency.

Im good with Washington the Steelers hit more than they miss on WRs so I trust them with this one.

I like the Rudolph pick I think he projects out better than anything we have behind Ben right now (maybe not for next season mind you but as a replacement down the road)

Meh on the OL kid I wont pretend to be a big expert on draft but there are a lot of guys I respect here who do do a lot of draft homework and most of them had to look this kid up so take that for whatever it means.

It looks like Samuels may be able to be used is a lot of variable and possibly creative ways

I’m ecstatic about this draft. As of 3-4 years ago I would spend hundreds of hours researching prospects and trying to prove I was good at it. Why am I so happy, because I spent less than 8 hours in this exercise in futility.

Collectively We don’t know shit and I’m glad I finally saw the light. I had fun doing the draft for 6-7 years but I have even more fun not doing it because of all the time I freed up.

Almost time for Pittsburgh's last pick. Any guesses (or wishes)?

And the Steelers' final draft pick for 2018 is...
    Joshua Frazier-- DT, Alabama
A lot of players from 'Bama in this draft.

    Joshua Frazier DT, Alabama
    Height: 6-4 Weight: 315
    Draft Prospect Outlook:

Tall, girthy two-gapper with slow, heavy hands and slow, heavy feet. Severely limited as a pass-rusher. Good strength but often plays too high, so offensive linemen get under him and move him backward. Run-plugger.

  18. steelersking M.V.P. Steelers

So no LB draft pick of any kind for the the Steelers

  19. steelersking M.V.P. Steelers

So in other words McCullers 2.0?

The Steelers end their run of not drafting Alabama players. Deshea Townsend was the previous Alabama player selected way back when.
