The frustrating thing is I actually believe Pace does have an eye for College talent. But what he doesn't have is the patience/self-discipline required to run a draft. And his overall approach to roster building, where he spends approx 80% of his time putting out a fire he himself just created, well, that would get you fired by most other teams in the league by now. A director of college scouting in a GM's body, thats my fear.
Fatukasi I don't see anything special. Compares to Abry Jones, a back up on the Jags who doesn't see the field enough. Because he was unremarkable, the Jags spent money on defensive ends to upgrade. Honestly, I'd rather give Bullard or RRH that opportunity, because Fatukasi may not be a better option. McIntosh is the best talent left with no health issues, compares to Raider 5 tech Mario Edwards, a proficient run stuffer, has plus swim move, decent bullrush that needs improving. He needs some technical things to be more fluid, like lower body strength calibration. He's got strength, he needs to be taught how to leverage it. Mo Hurst is a 1st round talent, but do you want to risk another Gaines Adams? You bring up holes in the roster, there's a chance you throw away a pick.
A 6'1, 230 lb linebacker with okay cover skills and is hailed for his athleticism? Didn't you draft a much better version of that #8 overall? Where is this guy going to play? Sounds like a glorified special teamer with no other roster spot. Can cause a fumble, but cant get after the quarterback very well.....either that or Western Kentucky didn't believe in rushing the quarterback. 11.5 TFL is the stat that keeps being thrown around. This pick I don't understand. You had a 2nd round talent at OT, other edge rushers, 2 solid 5 techs (one amid health issues) and a couple DBs that fell from projected late 2nd/3rd round to choose from.
For what it's worth, Joel I is my number 6 rated LB in this class and I believe the Bears got a helluva fucking football player with that selection.
The very first highlight ESPN showed was him getting a coverage sack after the QB held onto the ball for 5 seconds. The other couple replays showed he's undersized with speed. Scouting report lists him as a "late round" project player
Pace sure likes picks from out of no where. I'm not sure where this guy is going to fit. Are they moving to the speed focused D? Seeing more and more speed and smarts over size. I'm alright with the Miller pick as I'm an optimist by nature so I'm assuming he'll end up on the upside of his potential. But if he doesn't that will sting.
There’s your 5 tech. At least that’s a position of need, but still not a bonafide edge rusher prospect chosen.
Adam Jahns @adamjahns #Bears' selection of LB Joel Iyiegbuniwe seems to have everyone thinking. Here are two from me: 1. Nick Kwiatkoski could get a look at OLB. He's been disruptive with blitzes. Played outside in college some, too. 2. Are Danny Trevathan's days numbered? He was a John Fox signing. 10:32 AM · Apr 28, 2018
Jahns tends to be an idiot. I could understand trying Kwiatkoski at OLB. But Trevathan? Anyone that watched the Bears last year knows how much better the defense is when he's on the field. And Fangio loves him.
