Third round grade... inconsistent hands, undersized, not fast, and compares to... Kendall Wright. Perfect.
If this isn't Ryan Pace, I don't know what is. Why would we expect anything else? He is patently unable to build a roster. Unfathomably, inexorably, pathetically unable to put together a roster. Cut your starting LG, so gotta draft a C when there are better players available, because you have to move your star C over to LG. Can't just use the C you already drafted, because he sucks balls. Let your #2 WR walk, then trade away serious future draft capital to get another one, because the WR you drafted #7 overall a few years ago is a monumental bust. Let Kendall Wright go, then replace him with a guy who is compared to him (not that I take much stock in these comparisons, but it does lend to the point awfully fucking well). He does this every fucking year. Why should we expect any different? I get it, Freeman was suspended, but even Smith is filling a need for a player just departed this year. We've got gaping holes and weaknesses at other positions, and are watching top talent go elsewhere, because Ryan Pace neither knows how to build a roster or how to properly evaluate talent. I think this team is better than last year, but that's almost exclusively to do with this new coaching staff.
They could of had Kirk instead of Daniels from what I understand might have some injury concerns, and most likely filled their need instead of going with Kendall Wright 2.0.
You know who else they could’ve had? Their pick of several talented edge rushers. But at least they have their third.. oh wait, they don’t have one. Well good thing they have two fourths... oops! Traded one of those for slot receiver Kendall Wright Jr after cutting Kendall Sr and signing FA slot receiver Taylor Gabriel. In what fucking world does any of this make sense? Stay tuned for Saturday’s stupidity. It’s gonna be a laugh riot!
They traded up to draft a receiver with foot injury issues and has had problems with drops and fumbles. I like that he plays with a Hines Ward like chip on his shoulder but I don’t see how this is a smart pick at this moment with other needs.
Watching tape on him, here's what I like: Quick off the snap, gets to speed quickly. Very good RAC ability, with quick feet and good balance. I don't like the Kendall Wright comparisons. I was a big fan of Wright coming out of college. I don't remember Wright displaying the RAC that Miller does. As a route runner / prior to catching the ball, I can see the comparison. But Miller brings ability with him after the catch. You have to imagine Nagy had a lot of input on this one. I do see how Miller fits Nagy's style / plan. I think Miller has more to offer us than some grades / evaluations are showing, especially in this system. I have to watch more, obviously, but I'm not as down on him as these evaluations. That said, Ryan Pace still has no idea how to build a roster. Giving up second round picks to fill a void that you not only created but have failed to fill is not how you become a successful football team. Especially not when you have to do that multiple times in a draft, with or without giving up draft capital. This is a team that is constantly in "Band-aid that thing I broke" mode, thanks to Ryan Pace.
It's like shitting the bed but no worries you have plastic protection on the mattress, but you still created a mess. Smh
I said it multiple times prior to the draft: if he takes a WR in the first two rounds, it's an admission of abject failure and inability to run this team. Not only did he do that, but he gave up a second-rounder next year in the process. Bravo, Ryan Pace. I thought you were shitty. You doubled down. Well played. It's a good thing they didn't just give this guy an extension. Oh, wait...
I did what I said I was afraid to do. I looked at the CCS forum. It’s worse than I could’ve possibly imagined. “Pace is killing it” was my favorite quote. Unless he meant the will to root for this team, I wholeheartedly disagree.
Maybe Pace is trying to help New England secure its dynasty. The Patriots give up their 2nd rounder this year knowing the Bears 2nd rounder next year will be higher plus they get a high 4th rounder on top of it. Also, am I to understand that the Bears now have no 3rd or 4th round picks this year? Pace doesn't care about this teams future, he's just mortgaging everything for the next year or two in a desperate attempt to save his own job. Edit nevermind, they still have another 4th rounder but I still don't understand approximately 80% of his draft picks since he's been here
Catches everything in his chest; lets the ball come to him. Haven't properly seen him high-point a ball once. It's fine and well if you're out away from a defender, but he's going to need to learn how to catch properly to have success at the NFL level. Not a great trait for a WR. Looking forward to watching tape on the Iowa Center.
From what I understand their first selection in the 2nd Daniels may have some knee concerns...Well done Jerry Angelo 2.0
I'm with DLine on Miller. He's better than Kendall Wright. I don't want to jump back into the circular arguments against Ryan Pace, rehashing the good and the bad--but his tenure lives and dies on moves like this. If this kid is the next Steve Smith (Carolina, not New York) then we won't care, the bears will look like bandits. If he's Steve Smith (Giants), then this is a loss. Its entirely reasonable to have higher expectations for this kid. You traded up to get him in the 2nd when you had a crack at hims however many picks prior. I guess I don't understand why Miller was a guy you had to have, but not at the pick you could have had him. Daniels is solid, I get, but I guess I'm just confused or Ryan Pace had Miller a high grade, like he thought Miller a 1st round talent. If this blows up this is the move we'll talk about. And I'll probably have to find another football team, because I'm not up for another 5 years of bad football. Pace is clearly going for it, and in a certain lens I guess I respect that. But this also could blow up terribly, and we'll be in football purgatory for some more years, guys.
Still some talent on the board in areas of need. Dorance Armstrong, edge from Kansas still on the board. The best name ever, Hercules Mata'afa I guy I've never watched much on is there too. Duke Ejiofor too. There's a couple of edge options. 5 tech has RJ McIntosh and Mo Hurst. I don't know if I want to drop a draft pick on Hurst, even a later one. Heart problems. Running back is deep this year, still great choices left on board. Akrum Wadley (Iowa), Justin Jackson (Northwestern), Mark Walton (Miami), John Kelly (Tennessee), Nyheim Hines (NC State) all solid 2 way back options. Hines another speed demon threat. Tyrell Crosby is a 2nd round talent at OT from Oregon. But the bears seem to have a problem with recent Oregon linemen. Regardless he'd be the best swing tackle option. He's thought to need a couple of years to get better and settle in as a starter. Cole Madison from Washington State is a proficient zone pass blocker. He's really weak as a run blocker. He'd be a Heistand project, but after Crosby, there's a talent gap drop at OT going forward this draft. CB has a lot of options that have fallen. Many people graded Nick Nelson from Wisconsin a 2nd rounder. He's there. JC Jackson from Maryland. Holton Hill, who compares to Sean Smith according to NFL.com, Quenton Meeks from Stanford, Tavarius McFadden from Florida State. I'm actually now a tad shocked I don't have to talk about safety.
Fortunately i was over at my buddy's in the city last night getting high as a motherfucker when i saw this trade, rather than at home nailing some Scotch. That decision probably spared my laptop's life but even then i was still pissed off. Pace really can't help himself can he. I didn't like this move last night, i still don't like it today. Strictly speaking the Bears did get value in this trade. Essentially they swapped 2nd's and it cost them a 4th rounder to move up. Better yet, next years 2nd is actually equivalent to this years 3rd by how they calculate these things, so it wasn't that expensive. But someone remind me of this statement next year when we have no 2nd round pick, cos then this move will hurt. I really liked the Daniels pick. And im a little happier still about Smith than i maybe even was at the time. Through 2 picks Pace was doing well. Then this. I like the kid's attitude, and must admit he prob fits just what Nagy is looking for. But im sorry, if you're a GM with multiple serious holes to fill and already a lack of picks cos you got fleeced trading up last year..... you can't make a move like this. Or at least if you do, you can't do it for a player like this and position like this which you've just splashed on in FA. A diamond Edge rusher who's on the fall, that's the only way you possibly justify a move like this in these circumstances. Even then.. Now despite saying that, the Bears seem to be receiving near universal praise for this move in the media, which is.... interesting..... Either they're right or we are. We've got one half decent pick left, it virtually HAS to go on OLB. But if it does then you've not addressed 5-tech adequately. And vice versa.
Well Ev you nailed my feeling exactly. If we were a better team and had a surplus of picks.....I’d be totally okay with a move like this. But we’re not. We have holes. We have needs. And we seemingly have a shortage of picks every single draft. That’s why I’m pissed off still.
