Glad somebody does. Why spend bucks on CB's in free agency and then turn around a use the #4 pick on another CB.? Not happy with this one.
I'm guessing that they'll play more nickel and dime sets since they need some better LB depth. And Ward is going to be pretty darn good. The other guys are good but not in his class.
I would have been happier with Chubb, but a top level CB is a pretty nice consolation prize. We still have Garrett, and Ogunjobi after all. Looking for Garrett to make the year 2 leap.
We now know the Giants weren't about to take a QB. We also know that the Jets would take Darnold if he was available. He was. . . . They did. So forgive me, but . . . If you have the #1 O/A pick in the draft, why don't you select the best player in the draft? This team has been offensively challenged for this entire century! You just obtained a veteran QB in the off season and have already named him the starter for 2018 (rightfully so). Take Barkley at #1, then follow up with Mayfield at #4. How is Mayfield going to help this offense holding a clipboard? And make no istake, Mayfield NEEDS to be on clipboard duty just like any other rookie QB in this draft class. Denzel Ward was a wasted pick. Different GM . . . same old shit!
Even with hindsight . . . What's the worst that could have happened. The Browns STILL get one of the top 4 QB's in the class to hold a clipboard for a year. That's STILL better than Denzel Fucking Ward !
Bring harsh Lym, Ward is the top pure CB in this draft. I would've taken Chubb, but they are obviously drafting to fill biggest needs...Ward was the top player at his position, filled a need. Again, wouldn't have been my pick, but I wouldn't say it was a terrible pick either.
We STILL would have got our QB ! Don't understand why you can't get that in your head. And, yes, Ward is a good CB. But he's not the best player in the draft and he certainly won't help the offense. Maybe we'll only lose 16 games this by fewer points per game.
Will never know...Have said all along. Mayfield the best QB by far, not close..could have been the one player that either the Giants or Jets would have taken over who they did. We will never know. The Browns brass knew that's who they wanted and they go him. I'm thankful for having Baker Mayfield on this team. After QB, there were two glaring holes, LT and CB...there wasn't a worthy LT, so they chose their top prospect at CB. Might have had Ward rated higher than Barkley and Chubb, we don't know. I don't see it, but it is what it is.
It’s been reported the reason Mayfield wasn’t the most-hyped guy (like Darnold, Allen) is because *SO* many teams loved him they didn’t want to tip their hands. Baker was probably QB1 on 28 of 32 team’s boards and Jets would have loved to take him.
Browns also lacked an elite CB, but have an elite DE. Currie is solid, Taylor regressed, Gaines is on a one year term. Lost our best guy in McCourty. Ward has elite speed and fluidity. He can be a lockdown corner in a conference featuring A.J. Green and Antonio Brown. Way the board is shaping up, Sam Hubbard could be there at #33 thanks to some pretty awful drafting from these other teams. Might be a “hot take” but Hubbard isn’t too far behind Chubb in my opinion.
