Well, I wasn't nervous coming in, but I am now. I thought 4 QB's would go before Chicago. Chubb, Nelson, and Ward are all off the board. Bucs still to pick. The fact that the QB's are lingering means Chicago has less talent to pick from. I'm not loving this, in the least.
Bills give up two 2nd round picks to move up 5 spots. They'll be picking QB, you have to believe. Do they pick the right Josh? If they step on the Allen landmine... Chicago gets 3 QB's to go in front of them. Could have been worse. Who's it gonna be? Ugh. Super nervous. Come on, Pace. Bills embrace Josh Allen, and look forward to a top 5 draft pick in the next few years.
Big sigh of relief. I'm down to watch this dude in a Bears uniform. Alright, Pace. So far, so good. My thanks to the Bills. I wish he was that talented a guy at OLB, but I'll take ILB all the same. Fuck NFL Channel's coverage. Cut to commercial the moment the pick is made. Fuck your nonsense. Awful.
Stayed put, drafted Roquan Smith out of Georgia. With what was there, I think it was the right call. Pace has a lot to prove, but that was likely the right move at that point.
Got excited a bit when Chubb dropped, not that I thought the Bears would get him, but was hoping it meant Nelson would fall to the Bears. I always want to see the Bears draft lineman in the first round, but I’m ok with. Finally, a nice safe pick by Pace, instead of his usual ‘swinging for the fences” picks.
Solid pick. We all knew Chubb would never make it to 8. Nice addition to the 2017 improved defense. I trust Fangio will work his magic with Smith so we won’t have to suffer another year of exasperation where the defense couldn’t get off the filed on 3rd down.
When Cleveland didn’t take Chubb, I thought Pace might trade up. And I wanted him to, but then realized it would’ve taken too much. When Nelson went to Indy at 6, I knew it Smith was the pick. But... I wanted him to trade down and get LVE. He could’ve gotten picks and a better player in my very humble opinion. I’m good with Smith, but I worry about him inside. He looks like a strong safety on tape - soooo small. Could get swallowed up trying to take on a guard at the second level. I have concerns trying to stop runs between the tackles.
Lame turnout. Maybe baby should hijack the thread with yoga and other Canadian crap to spice it up. Speaking of Canada - FUCK Canada! Golden Knights 7-0!
I have to say, im mildly sickened that the trade move we all knew was coming took place one spot before us. Would've loved something like what the Bucs got. 3 2nd rounders and Pace had a chance to really fill holes and improve this team quick. Why the fuck does the right move always take place one spot ahead of the Bears?! As for Smith, im not mad but im not excited either tbh. Good player, but like bear-man said his size worries me. Between him and Trevathan we look very under-sized at MLB, an O with a good inside power game will cause this D all kinds of trouble. The comparisons to Willis are, imho, ridiculous. Smith is nowhere near as rugged and filled out as Willis was. Willis played 240-244ish, Smith played last season sub 230. Willis looked and played every ounce of his weight, prob more. Smith just looks small. Throw in Floyd and this LB corps suddenly looks very lightweight, power O's(of which there aren't as many these days admittedly) will batter them. Other thoughts: - This move signals the end of Kwitkowski's brief time as a starter. I thought he was clearly improving, guess Pace thought not enough. - While im not high on the Smith pick, it looks like a safe pretty smart pick i guess. Is Pace becoming more seasoned and growing into the role? - Every pick that doesn't go on an edge rusher makes the position more worrying. We are seriously thin at OLB. Yep, disappointing. Some of our vet posters are letting the side down.
