We will probably need a live thread dedicated for the draft so, here it is! If anyone would be interested in a little game, I devised one for my employees for a little give away. It's pretty simple. List teams and picks 1-32 Every accurate slot that a player is picked = 6 points If the team/slot/player align = 2 more points Bonus point received if you get the player to the team but wrong slot you can move teams around in any order without justifications to try and guess trades most points wins TBH, I did provide them with CBS' top 50, mostly because it's garbage and the winner, in theory, would have to do a little bit of work on it. If anyone's interested we can either post our predictions stopping an hour before the draft, or just use the honor system. Either way, this can be the live thread for the draft. Enjoy.
Not so much of a prediction as a wish list along with my reasons why . . . 1-1: Saquan Barkley, RB - Penn State. Ya, I know he's not a QB and QB is the most important position. Yada, Yada, Yada. Barkley is STILL the best player in the draft. With Barkley now off the board, the Giants either select Chubb or trade down. Doesn't matter. If they trade down, their trade partner will select Sam Darnold. All indications are then the Jets then pick Baker Mayfield at 1-3. 1-4: Josh Rosen, QB - UCLA. All 4 of the top QB's in this draft class have their pros and cons and, frankly, any of the 4 have the ability to develop into a tier 1 QB. The important thing to consider is that all 4 of them will need to marinate with a clipboard for the entire 2018 season and the additions of two veteran QB's will allow them to do just that. 2-1: Package this pick with whatever it takes to move back up into the 1st round and select, Conner Williams, OT - Texas. He becomes the heir apparent to Joe Thomas and would then come with a 5th year option. After that, concentrate on defensive depth with one exception: DaeSean Hamilton, WR - Penn State. This kid can play and should be available in the 3rd - 4th round. I know some of you will pound the table for Chubb stating that he, across from Garrett, will be formidable. That's true. But so would being able to grind it out on offense, and keep the defense off of the field. This team has been offensively challenged for too long. Admittedly, I'm not a big fan of Tyrod Taylor. But he does protect the football and can thrive in a grind it out offense.
It should be noted that, IF the Giants formally announce they have traded 1-2 prior to the Browns going OTC with the 1st overall pick, then, by all means take whatever QB is deemed the pick of the litter at 1-1. Barkley would still be there at 1-4. The reality is though, there is really no valid reason for the Giants to do this.
I see the reasoning, I just think that knowing how big of an ego most GMs have, and the talent that came out in the 3rd round last year, that Dorsey will wait till Day 2 for a RB. Fournette and McCaffery had good rookie seasons and showed to be valuable, but Kamara and Hunt were head and shoulders above, and in terms of value per pick, they were in another galaxy all together. I think some fans are going to be upset come draft day when Dorsey goes all Sonny Weaver/Sashi Brown and executes a couple of trades on day 1.
In terms of dollars, too. Barkley, if drafted in the Top 5, would be the fourth highest paid running back in the NFL having never stepped onto the field. The Browns already have almost $7.5 million going out the door in 2018 to Hyde and Johnson Jr. Yes, they're loaded with cash, but adding a huge contract to the mix doesn't seem financial prudent.
