Vikings' Kentrell Brothers suspended 4 games by NFL Minnesota Vikings linebacker Kentrell Brothers was suspended without pay for the first four games of the 2018 regular season for violating the NFL's policy on performance-enhancing substances, the league announced Friday. Brothers is eligible to return to the Vikings' active roster on Friday, Sept. 28, following the team's Sept. 27 game against the Los Angeles Rams. Brothers is allowed to participate in all offseason and preseason practices and games. Brothers has appeared in 26 games over the last two seasons for Minnesota, primarily on special teams. He took just eight defensive snaps over 16 games in 2017. He will miss games against the San Francisco 49ers, Green Bay Packers, Buffalo Bills and Los Angeles Rams. (NFL.com)
Eagles strike new deal with Nick Foles One of the questions heading into the offseason was whether the Eagles would consider trading quarterback Nick Foles, but no one hit the “high price tag” the team said it would take to move the reigning Super Bowl MVP. While a trade didn’t materialize, a revised contract with the Eagles has come to fruition. Mike Garafolo of NFL Media reports that the team has reached a new deal with Foles that includes a mutual option for the 2019 season. Garafolo’s colleague Ian Rapoport reports that the revised contract includes a $2 million signing bonus and millions more in incentives that Foles could reach if he finds himself back in the starting job this year. Garafolo adds that the Eagles don’t foresee that happening and believe Carson Wentz will be good to go for the regular season, but Foles now gets more money off of last year’s work and a better chance to cash in come 2019 as a starter somewhere in the league. Foles’ original contract with the Eagles called for him to make $11 million over two years with three voidable years tacked on for salary cap purposes. Those years were set to void as long as Foles was on the roster in February 2019.
It is really cool to see Philly take care of Foles for his incredible performance and his role on last year's team.
They did it with Long too. They have the least cap room but are setting the foundation of a good reputation with players. People want to go to New England to win? Well come to Philly and we'll win and we'll reward you for wanting to come on the cheap.
Foles and Wentz might be the best 1 2 punch in football... cant think of a better one off the top of my head.
Pump the brakes a little. People want to go to NE because they’re always in contention, not one single SB.
You would also think that playing for BB could be a BIG selling point. It would be like playing for Tuna, Knoll or Landry by today's standards.
I know that and it's the all business Do Your Job crap where you bringing up your pay means you are done. They'll find someone else that wants to win for cheap. Pats had a magical 4 years and then they cooked up a plan to stay great with players coming to win on the cheap. It's very sustainable since you don't waste money. Eagles are trying to build a good reputation early to get the players to come and stay. The Patriots Way is considered a suck it up and win way. Well I'm sure players would love an alternative if it can show success.
he's a hero for life in the city. just like bobby Clarke, Bernie Parent, Mike Schmidt, Steve Carlton, Dr. J are heros in the city and loved for life, so is Nick Foles. He will be remembered forever as the man who won the Eagles their first Super Bowl !
good point Matty. It will be very interesting to see how the Pats do once Brady and Belichick retire and head off to Canton together. Will any top FA go to NE without the both of them? Will NE still be relevant without the both of them and especially Brady as QB?
NFL plans a player safety summit next week, with a focus on kickoffs The NFL has already made one major change to player safety rules this offseason, banning players from lowering their heads to initiate contact with the helmet. And a discussion of more changes is on the agenda for next week. A player safety summit is being planned for next week, May 1-2 at the league office, an NFL spokesman told ESPN. Kickoffs will be a focal point of the meeting, with continuing discussions about how to make the play safer — or get rid of it altogether. Packers President Mark Murphy said last month that the league was planning to call on head coaches and special teams coordinators to come up with solutions to the problem of concussions suffered on kickoffs, and that input will be sought at next week’s meeting. Steve Tasker, one of the best special teams players in NFL history, has confirmed that he’s part of the discussions around the future of the kickoff as well. Realistically, there may be nothing that can be done to make kickoffs safer. The very nature of the play is to have players on one team sprinting down the field in one direction, players on the other team sprinting down the field in the other direction, and a bunch of hard collisions when the players meet. Those collisions are going to cause injuries. So the NFL may have reached the point where the discussions are less about changing rules to make kickoffs safer and more about the necessary rules changes to eliminate kickoffs. Once the league comes up with a proper replacement for onside kicks, the kickoff will go the way of the dodo. (PFT) _______________ _________________________ Is it just me, or do I see more injuries on regular plays than kick-offs? I cant recall all these injuries on kick-offs, wtf. Leave my damn game alone!!!
With these new rules coming into play, will Devin Hester eventually become an NFL god or the holder of an irrelevant “old-timey” football record?
the kickoff is a way to score points, so taking it away will help the players health, but not from hits in the rest of the game. that aspect of scoring a TD or getting in great field position to kick a winning FG is gone. to me that hurts teams and the game itself.
