I think ILB is the biggest need. They have guys at S, CB, RB right now but need replacements there also.

Agreed. The loss of Shazier will leave a mark this year. LB is about the only postion I see where you would benefit both from a starter and a depth standpoint. Unfortunately, this year's draft class is a bit lean in the LB department. O-line depth is a little thin, as well. And, again, this year's class isn't rife with big uglies.

Looking forward to seeing what you guys do in the draft this year.

Expanding on my previous comment . . .

Unlike my Browns, the Steelers don't typically plan to draft immediate starters. They typically draft players who become starters a year or 2 down the road. IMHO, this is why you rarely see the Steelers trading up to get a specific player.

This year, however, I think you have a couple of very specific areas of need that don't necessarily match up well with draft postion and the positional demographics of this year's draft class. And that's why I'm looking forward to seeing what you guys do.

Roquan Smith would be perfect on our defense. I can’t see us trading up far enough to get him. We might just stay put and see if Mason Rudolph falls to us too. Ben has gotten pretty beat up in his career . We need a backup QB secessor to keep the SB window open. If Dobbs or Jones had to finish the season for us our SB hopes are done

I could see them dropping back this year. There just doesn't seem to be a big talent gap between players 25-50. The Colts have 4 picks between 36 and 67 (and they may acquire more with an additional trade back). Maybe they target a guy like Gesicki in the bottom of the 1st and offer that 2.49 pick. I'd love to have 36, 49, 60 in this draft:

    36. Justin Reid, S Stanford
    49. Anthony Miller, WR Memphis
    60. Uchenna Nwosu, LB USC

In my 3 part mock that comes out tomorrow I have the Steelers taking Reid without moving down. There is talk of Tremaine's Edmunds brother Terrell sneaking into the bottom of the first, and if that's the case I can't see Justin Reid making it out of that round.

His stock kind of feels like Keanu Neal's. I believe teams are a bit higher on him than analysts are.

This is the one player I could see the Steelers breaking from habits and targeting if he goes on a "slide". Let's face it, ILB is not a premium position and I just have a gut feeling that the QBs will play a major role in this draft. If it plays out, Smith could end up in a spot where you may be able to reach him.

Three things have to happen, imho..

    1) Four QBs need to go in the top 5 picks. Which, imo means Darnold needs to go to the Giants.
    2) Nelson needs to slide to the Bears
    3) The Raiders need to have either James or Fitzpatrick available to pass on Smith

That said, here is a prime example of how I could see the Steelers getting Roquon on Thursday night

1.1 Browns select Baker Mayfield/Josh Allen, both serve the same purpose here
    1.2 Giants select Sam Darnold
1.3 Jets select Josh Allen/Baker Mayfield, I believe both the Browns and Jets are not looking to play it safe, but take the bigger upside players.
1.4 *tricky* but I think they go Bradley Chubb here
1.5 Broncos Josh Rosen falls into their laps. I believe Elway would want the golden arm of the 4 QBs
1.6 Colts find themselves in ecstasy having Barkley and Nelson, both improvements for their run game...choose Barkley
1.7 Buccaneers, have a lot of choices here, which prompts them to **trade** Bills trade #12 and #53 to take Lamar Jackson
1.8 Bears dream draft begins Quentin Nelson, no brainer at this point
1.9 49ers Denzel Ward, CB biggest need and they have their choice
1.10 Raiders Chuckie loves versatile players, Minkah Fitzpatrick fits that bill in the backfield
1.11 Dolphins have a choice to make, there is one QB left, but LB is a bigger need, this is the last piece for Steelers..They choose Tremaine Edmunds
1.12 Buccaneers have a dream scenario, trade down and still get their first choice in Derwin James
1.13 Redskins, first big challenge to the Steelers, but I can see them going O-line here and taking Isaiah Wynn
1.14 Which brings us to the Packers, I think they will want an offensive player here, but may not be high enough on one to care about sliding down the board just a tad. Now, you don't have to worry about the Cardinals with the next pick, but you DO have to move ahead of the Ravens. This might be the easiest trade partner in the whole draft for the Steelers..
**trade** 1.28, 1.60 and 2019 3rd round pick to get your guy Roquan Smith

Again, there is quite a bit of controversy in the above scenario...but stranger things have happened on draft day, and really, I think this will be an epically challenging draft to try and predict what will happen.

Would you guys trade 1.28, 1.60 and a 2019 3rd for Roquan Smith?

  11. Was Guice gone?

actually no.... he has philly getting Guice... Personally, I'd prefer Guice myself... I think he'll surprise with his catching

I really do not see the Steelers going offense round 1 unless. Might not get an ILB, but I would be pretty shocked if the pick isn't on the defensive side. If the pick is Guice or Michel then it fills next years need. Its practically a foregone conclusion that this is Bell's last season with the Steelers, unless something dramatically changes between now and July 15th. That being said, RB is one of the easier positions to get a rookie starter. They could hold off selecting Bell's replacement until next season. Super Bowl window is closing, time to go all in for this year.

My pick is Jaire Alexander if both Evans and VDE are gone. The teams that drafts vita Vea will win 3 or more games than last year. Book it.

Wow you guys are high on Mason Rudolph. I get it. I'm still hoping for Chase Litton, selfishly.

Another draft, another LB. That's how I see it. 1st round. Unless some higher BPA is available

2ND round, BPA on defense back 7 . Not d-line. Could be another LB honestly .The Steelers have done it before. More likely a Safety or Corner .

3RB round. BPA Running Back or Wideout .

Grab QB later. Just roll BPA all weekend.
