well, I think this is what all of us were waiting to see. Snead versus Dez versus Marshall.....

Looks like Snead was the winner

The Ravens aren’t finished trying to rebuild their receiving corps.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Ravens have signed Saints restricted free agent Willie Snead to a two-year offer sheet worth “up to” $10.4 million.

The Saints have five days to match it, though it seems unlikely they would.

The Saints signed Bears RFA Cameron Meredith to join a group including Michael Thomas and Ted Ginn, which wouldn’t seem to leave much room for Snead at any price. They also brought back Brandon Coleman.

The Ravens have churned the position, getting rid of Mike Wallace, Jeremy Maclin, and Michael Campanaro, and bringing in free agents Michael Crabtree and John Brown.

Snead caught just eight passes last year, but was productive his first two years with the Saints, catching 69 and 72 passes. A three-game suspension last year left him out of the game plan early, but the Ravens obviously think he can return to form.

    Yes!!! Yes!!!! Yes!!!!

Now let's hope the Saint don't match it. It's doubtful.

Well, Ozzie's "WR reset" is in full force. And Perriman's roster spot gets further and further away from him. If they draft a WR, and they better, then Breshad is likely on the outside looking in

  4. Perriman's reps are severely cut now so he's going to have to show them something to deserve more throwing time with Joe. Not impossible, but his time as a Raven is on life support and the doctor is asking to see if there's a DNR order.

I'm relieved that they finally signed Snead. He's tough and a competitor with a streak approaching Steve Smith Sr's. What I love is his ability to get open and his production after the catch. Coming from the Saints though is going to be a slight culture shock for him as they tend to do everything with finesse and the Ravens still want to pound the ball AFCN-style.

His contract details are still a tad murky and average of $5.2M/yr and I'm reading possible incentives are in that deal. So we don't know how much he counts agains the cap the next 2 years. In either case, with about $10M in cap space before this, they are likely done with the Dez Bryant talk.

Also am reading that Gettleman said that the Giants release of Marshall does not mean they intend to move on Dez. They still have OBJ and there might not be room on any team for their two personalities. Plus OBJ wants to be the highest paid player in the NFL. If they trade OBJ, perhaps that would make it easier, but there is still more to come before Dez gets signed anywhere.

OJB is nuts. He is nowhere near good enough to be the highest paid player in the NFL. He can’t even hold AB ‘s jock.

  6. I agree he's nuts, but he's in the same ballpark as AB. But even AB isn't the highest paid player.

I really hoped the Ravens could land him that draft if they moved back, but it's stuff like this that makes me see how much of a distraction a circus like this brings a team. Meanwhile we have Mosley who is quietly negotiating a new deal and being a Pro Bowler.

I suppose i wont go in to the whole thing as its not ravens related.

But on the ravens pick, i dont like it nor see it. Bama player is a definate plus here but if we go D ( which is the part i can see happening given the strength of the D positions especially at the point in the draft where we pick) i think we go Rashad Evans before we go with Payne. Fuck, i could see us going with Ridley, Davenport and even a shock Lamar jackson pick over Payne.

Given what we need, i just dont like the O positions, i would prefer to draft back and see if we can snag a 2nd somehow, or just go up and grab a sliding player which is bound to happen.

if someone like Smith or James slides out of the top 10, i start putting a trade together and begin unzipping. Again, its D but i just feel like in the first or the top end of the draft, the D is absurdly strong, and the amount of 1st round Qb's this year just lets us almost get a top 10 pick at 16 which is going to be interesting.

With all that being said, i think payne is good, i just think that would be a reach- although who knows, kid may turn out to be a god and tape be damned.

Edit: or if minkah slides, damn a lot of guys could slide. Ill go on record as also saying i really like baker mayfield but there is no way he is there when we pick...

  10. This is officially the first mock I've seen where the Ravens take Payne. I don't see him as "the guy," but wouldn't kick too much if that's what they thought was best. We struggled against the run and I think he could help. But is he a top 16 pick without being able to move down? I tend to think that there are more pressing needs and an elite prospect WR, ILB, TE or OL for the next 4 years on a rookie deal will be paramount.

I'll have some of these same thoughts in the podcast coming out later today, but I wanted to make sure you guys had a chance to see them.

I think the Ravens could target McGlinchey if he begins to slide some, but he was already off the board in this mock. The moves they made in free agency at WR suggest they may not be comfortable with one of the perceived first round picks at the position. TE would be a very large reach at 16 and I am in agreement with the idea of selecting Minkah but I don't think he makes it to the middle of the round.

It may not be to early to look at another position on the offensive line and corner could still be in play, but I believe Payne is being undervalued some by most analysts and draftniks and he could be more well regarded with scouts, coaches and GMs.

I think this is an ideal year for the Ravens to move down and if a reasonable deal presents itself that sees them adding picks through the second and third round it would be a solid move in a draft that has a lot of quality day 2 talent but many question marks on first day players.

  12. The Ravens brass has said as much about moving down and the level of defensive talent that could be taken with their first pick. So it's possible.

If great prospects like Minkah slide we may even see then trade up to land him even with Jimmy and Marlon. It's a pure BPA pick on a top 10 talent that they'd be foolish to pass on.

Depending on how much of their 1st rd board looks like Swiss cheese, we may see them simply trade down if possible. Picking in the mid to latter half og the 1st is what Ozzie does best. Second round however....not so good lately, but that won't prevent them from doing so.

Another thing to keep in mind is how many QBs get taken before the Ravens first pick. Some mocks as has much as 6 going ahead and most have 4. That gives the Ravens an outside chance at a top 10 talent, especially if one or more other teams reach. It happens which is how we got Mosley, Reed, Ngata, and even Flacco (in retrospect of that draft). QBs would be a natural top 10, 5 would mean one team would need to have "reached" and so on.

It looks like Dez turned down the Ravens. Thank you Dez. You did The Ravens a favor.

From ProFootballRumors: "Former Cowboys wide receiver Dez Bryant turned down a multi-year offer from the Ravens, according to veteran NFL reporter Ed Werder (on Twitter). Bryant is seeking a significant one-year deal that will allow him to secure a lucrative long-term contract as an unrestricted free agent next year."

  14. Sounds like the 2nd coming of Terrell Owens. Dodged that bullet.

Funniest headline I've read in a while:

Browns (John Dorsey) have decided on No. 1, won't tell Hue Jackson who it is.

Thought the dysfunction had ended in Cleveland. Guess not.

  16. It's really sad (sort of) that with all those many top 1st round draft picks that they have not found success. It's just strange that after 3 different owners with this new franchise they have just two winning seasons and one perfectly awful ZERO win season (subsequent to a 1 win season).

    This new franchise is cursed.

  17. Lyman "Franchise Asshole" Browns Buckeyes

That headline is complete and utter bullshit! Dorsey met with Haslam late last night and with Jackson, Williams and Haley this morning. The vast majority of the coaching staff sat down with them this afternoon to go over the entire draft board.

Maybe. Either that or they are talking about the board after QB at #1. If a QB is going #1 and Dorsey doesn't want any dissent before the draft then keeping it to himself won't affect having everyone talk about pick #4 and on .

  19. Lyman "Franchise Asshole" Browns Buckeyes

Oh ya. You're right. I completely forgot that someone who lives in a completely different fucking country would know more the Browns than someone who lives 45 minutes away from their headquarters and has followed them for over 60 years.

    My appologies.

Al is that you? I just said he could easily have #1 secret from everyone while discussing everything else with everyone, making everything you said and heard true, while still making the #1 pick story true.
