Oh, I'll still support the Browns, I'll just throw my porter bottle somewhere that the wife screams at me and switch to a alternating multitude of Vodka and Bourbon until I either pass out or puke...When I wake, I will start the process again. Allen will turn me into a drunk.

I had the same thought early in the process, but am leaning on Allright here - who's pretty dialed into Denver.

You're a better fan than I, sir. Allen would be a hard stop for me.

Fortunately, as I posted at the start of this spirited discussion, I believe there's a 0% chance the Browns take him.

I think that has a really strong chance of being how it goes down on day one.

What has the potential to change that entirely would be if the Browns (cover your eyes...) select Josh Allen with that first pick -
    1. Allen
    2. Chubb
    3. Darnold
    4. Rosen
That would put the Broncos up with Mayfield on the board. The Broncos could still look to move back or just take Baker, but with premium talent on the board, a newly signed quarterback and a team that is looking to take back the West they may opt to add to the roster in other places of more need.

I still can't get a strong enough feel for what I think that first pick would be. My head says Darnold, probably because of where I rank him, but my gut says Allen because of all the tangible connections in the lead up to the draft.

You must have been one of those who changed from Garrett to Trubisky at the 11th hour last year...

    lol

Nah, can't say that I did. This year has proven to be one of the most difficult I can remember for getting a strong read on that top pick. I think the pick should be Darnold, but I'm not going to be surprised if it's Allen and I'm considering going with Josh for my final mock of the year.

I'm just waiting to see if any news breaks before I finalize it.

I wouldn't expect any breaking news, but if you wan to build upon your nicely groomed reputation, I would stay away from Allen in the top 3 picks...Just my input.

lol, IMO my reputation needs to get to the barber for a clip and a shave.

I'm never satisfied with my work.

For Allen, it's likely Cleveland or a slide out of the top 3 so it's tough to argue with your line of thinking.

Doesn't that tell you everything you need to know about the validity of a possible #1 choice of Allen?

I guess it's personal perspective. I don't see Mayfield dropping out of the top 3, and I don't see any way Allen is chosen in the top 3. I can't see a "slide" further than #5 for Mayfield, whereas I could easily see Allen dropping out of the top ten.

It's definitely personal perspective and I really don't disagree with your line of thinking.

From what I have put together this off-season trying to track player value, the non-consensus thinking on quarterback has made it interesting to peg down where the top 4 are going to land. Allen seems to be favored a bit more by Cleveland and the Bills, but Buffalo has stronger ties to Rosen so if they are both available at a point they can trade up to, I think the pick is Rosen. The Jets have strong ties to Darnold, Mayfield and Rosen. Mayfield became that hot talk to the Jets after his visit, but New York had already moved into the top 3 so the thinking should remain that if Darnold is available at #3, New York will be taking Sam. If he's gone, then it could go either Baker or Rosen.

This puts together a few scenarios:
    • Darnold could go as high as #1 or as low as #3
    • Allen could go as high as #1 or as low as #12
    • Baker/Rosen could go as high as #3 or as low as #12 (ultimately, I don't see NYG trading out)

Now, I don't think Buffalo would risk either Baker, Rosen or Allen falling all the way to them so some move up is bound to happen which makes the floor higher, but without trades involved I see this as the basement scenario for all three.

    #12 + #22 + #56 = 2,320

    #5 = 1,700

I know there's a premium associated with trading up to the Top 5 and for a QB but damn... John Dorsey should accept that offer without #56 thrown in in a heartbeat.

John Dorsey's without #56 would look like this:

    #12 + #22 = 1,980

    #4 = 1,800

I don't think that is enough of a premium for a presumed franchise QB... I would need either one of the 2nd rounders this year or a future first.

I dunno... 10% surcharge on the price tag seems about right.

Can anyone justify trading up for Allen? I know a team like Buffalo has been rumored to be interested, but how are they not in immediate "win-now" mode? Their best (only) playmaker is a 30-year old running back and they traded a prior Pro Bowl QB who took them to the playoffs ending the longest current drought. To take a massively regressive step backwards (A.J. McCarron) and then draft a flawed project like Allen would be career suicide for the HC/GM.

If they move up, I could see it being Rosen but the rumors now are teams are cooling on him since he's a "high floor, low ceiling" guy (hmm... where have I heard that? Some guy who's more of a pied-piper than a poster, I think... )

    Hmm...

Let me put it this way..I would not move back for a single extra draft pick in the 20s. Lose out on Chubb or Barkley for the rights to take a lessor potential player at #12 and an even lessor potential at #22. I would do it for the rights to THREE potential players, because your odds begin to increase on hitting on a winner over the single player at #4. But just adding one player doesn't interest me, when the caliber of player is staring me in the face.

Honestly, if we were only doing two picks, I would rather take either the Dolphins or Bills current pick and a future first rounder. I think both teams regress this season and will end up with a top ten pick in the 2019 draft.

I get where you're coming from and believe me, I'm not going to turn away a team trying to give us more draft picks.

But if we trade out of #4 (Chubb) and instead take a Denzel Ward (#12) and Connor Williams (#22), I would consider that a greater option. We're filling two major needs instead of adding a very good player to an already deep lineup.

We're possibly filling two major needs..however, at this point we don't know if Connor Williams will ever pass Shon Coleman up, whom is the expected replacement in the short term.

I like Denzel Ward, don't take this as a knock on him, he is my top rated CB...However, I have several other CBs that are closely rated and at least a couple I believe will be available at the top of round 2...I DO NOT believe he is a game changer, the way I believe Chubb is.

We have started with a foundation, now we need as many game changers as we can muster before our cap space starts catching up to us.

Sad, I thought the same thing...knew exactly what you were talking about when you wrote this. I don't know which is sadder, her untimely death or the fact two grown men know about it...
