It’s all over the place now Bears will not match offer from Saints. Personally I’m disappointed. If Pace didn’t like the medical why tender him at all. If he was comfortable with his medical but wants him to prove it give him the higher tender that would have almost guaranteed no body would sign him to an offer sheet. Nstead he comes back with a very reasonable off but you let him walk for nothing. Don’t like it. I have no doubt that Nagy was involved in this decision so we will have to see his plan but Pace has no problem wasting 19 million on Glennon Meredith isn’t worth a $5 mill gamble?
I think the intent was to come up with a number they were comfortable with paying him if nobody else matched it, but could the real intent have been to lure a divisional opponent into matching the offer; the Bears having inside medical knowledge..? Who knows, the whole thing certainly is strange. I’m not going to lose any sleep over a 3rd tier receiver with a blown knee going to the NFC South - that I know for sure.
I can only assume from this that the Bears aren't in fact happy with how Meredith is coming back from the injury. If that turns out to be the case then fair enough. But it really shouldn't be anything else. This is not a lot of money we're talking about here in the grand scheme of things. I agree that if you don't want to pay 5mil then 2nd round tender him and pay like a mil more than you were going to. I mean these are such small numbers. All the huge sums of money Pace has spunked away in FA on utter toads over the years, and now he gets a sharp constricting of the sphincter over this??? One of his own? It doesn't make sense to me tbh. I don't like it. If Meredith goes down the to NO, comes back healthy and puts up numbers this will have completely blown up in Pace's face.
It'd be nice to think that Pace did to New Orleans what Baltimore did to him with Pernell McPhee......but then again Rob has a point. If the medicals suck, why tender him at all?
