Bell wasn’t considered the best RB in the league when we drafted him. Where you drafted a player doesn’t mean crap when it comes to trade value. Anyone trading for Bell expects to get a great RB, so they should expect to pay the price. A first round pick has to be involved. I was talking about swapping up into the top 5 picks. You are trading a dynamic player and you want the chance to get one in return. I would then pick a great defensive prospect with the pick, use our second round pick for Bells replacement.
There is also value in not dealing with Bell any longer and that could be the price/value reduction from a 1st round pick to a 2nd. Besides, nobody will offer a 1st Round pick for LVB even though he is THE best RB in the NFL today. Miles, antics, injury, etc. are all important factors here. In my opinion, he’s worth the money but ... my name isn’t Rooney.
The problem is, until he signs the tender, the Steelers are negotiating with teams under the franchise tag premise. He can't negotiate a new deal with another team until he signs the tag. The Steelers can negotiate the deal, but Bells camp can't deal with other teams which would give them more control over where he goes.
If you had to break down the factors in determining trade value contract status would run a close 2nd to talent. Bell's contract status is a 1 on a scale of 1-10. The Steelers would be very fortunate to come away with (2) 2nds for Bell.
This isn't exactly true. If the Steelers give him permission he can negotiate with another team prior to signing the tag. I do agree he has a level of control.
Which is why they would give him and his agent permission to talk to teams and work out a deal before the trade
Nat Behre did an AMA on Reddit today. Read thru it and get to know this hard hitting DB who is SUPER excited to be a Steeler.
