Where Do We Go From Here?

One other area of concern for me is recievers. Everyone seems to think Gordon is our #1, and Gordon of 3 years ago would be, but, and they are big buts; he is one test from never wearing pads again and IMO hasn't shown himself to be the same guy anyway.

I like Landry, and I like Njoku, but Coleman is suspect, and Gordon is a question mark. Where are we if those go wrong?

Trading Beaches QB to the Giants for Odell after they take Barkley at #2....

Well that was easy. Don't know why I was worried.

Seriously though, I don't see any standout WRs in this draft, however, I see a lot of developmental receivers. A lot of upside guys that will be available rounds two and lower. I know that isn't what you wanted to hear, but we got the best available receiver this off season in Jarvis Landry. That would change if Odell Beckham Jr. actually does get traded, but until then we got the best one.

I would expect the Browns to draft a wide receiver fairly early in this year's group - unless they swing the mega-trade for Odell Beckham Jr. The only drawbacks to OBJ, in my eyes, are:
    • Landry, Gordon, and now Beckham would all be pending free agents after 2018 (as well as QB Tyrod Taylor)

    • Beckham isn't, shall we say... subtle and could be undue pressure on Gordon and his efforts to stay sober

    • Potential price tag (in the trade)

    Courtland Sutton - R1
    D.J. Moore - R1-R2
    Anthony Miller - R3-R4
    Michael Gallup - R4-R5

All those dudes have the potential to be pretty good. Browns would be well-served adding any of them to the lineup.

Also, given that they are developmental - I agree - they wouldn't be forced into action early. Even without a trade for Beckham, we have Gordon (as of now), Landry, and Corey Coleman as well as Njoku and DeValve at the tight end spot. That's already a lot of targets to go around for a guy who has not typically thrown a ton of passes.

Taylor ranked 25th, 25th, and 24th in attempts the last three seasons. Obviously, that was a different team and scheme, but I would really, really hope the Browns didn't make a move for Taylor expecting to completely change the game he plays. He's a safe, efficient passer who can convert with his legs when he needs to and should keep drives alive. I would be incredibly discouraged if the Browns wanted to air it out 550+ times a game with him (436 attempts was his max over the past three seasons).

How that would have stacked up at this year's Combine:

    40 Yard: 4.50s (t-15th)
    10 Yard: 1.57s
    Vertical: 39" (3rd)
    Broad Jump: 125" (6th)
    Short Shuttle: 4.26s (13th)
    3 Cone: 6.65s (4th)

Maybe my post was confusing. Im just suggesting a move down and picking up an extra 1st. If the Bills were offering #12 and #22 to get ahead of Denver I would push for more but ultimately would take it if it came down to it.

Definitely draft day and if you go ahead and take the QB it brings in teams who might otherwise not have the draft capital to get to #4. Maybe you can pry away a great young player like Budda Baker along with Arizona's 15th pick.

I think the Bills second next season would come into play. If Buffalo really wants to move up they have to also consider the rumors out of New England that the Patriots are considering moving up in the first for a quarterback.

Now, to be clear, I think this is a pretty obvious attempt by the Patriots to do just that. If they can convince the Bills that they are truly interested in moving up in the draft to take a quarterback, Buffalo will have no choice but to overspend in order to make that happen. New England has enough ammunition in this draft to actually make the move up, but I just can't see them doing that when they can solidify a roster that already has the talent to make another Super bowl run.

They were talking about a similar scenario to this on NFL Network this morning. The only difference is Arizona was supposedly offering their #1 + David Johnson.....

I wouldn't do it. Why go after a RB on the final year of his contract? I'd rather stay put, take the BPA, and have a game changer for the next few years on a rookie contract...

I love David Johnson, but frankly, I love Sony Michel's potential also... A hurt DJ on his last year of contract does not equate to moving from #15 to #4. I agree with you TD!!

That's why I used Budda as an example. 2nd year of a 4yr deal and I think that guy is a perennial pro-bowler. I agree I wouldn't want David Johnson. Maybe it's Budda, 1.15 and a 2nd next year. IDK.

I actually saw a replay of this segment today...They were calling for David Johnson and Arizona's SECOND rounder, not their first...They had to be partying with firehalo before the segment started.

Same segment had another scenario of Seattle's first (#18) and Earl Thomas, this is more realistic, but he is also in the last year of his contract. They didn't say for whom the Seahawks would be moving up that high to get, unless I missed it.

  17. TopDawg Legend

yeah, I didn't even mention that one because Seattle jumping up didn't make sense to me....I'd love to have Earl Thomas but it seems like our plan at the safety positions is set...

    TRADE ALERT

Browns trade Kevin Hogan to Redskins for 2018 6th round pick swap....We move from pick #205 (NE) to PICK #188

Sorry Lym. Looks like it's official...at least we got something.

And that complete's Dorsey's annihilation of the Browns QB room from 2017...

Something that I mentioned a few months back and am in total agreement with.
