That concludes the R.H.S.C. Mock Draft on L4SN. I really wanted to give some people the chance to represent their favorite team in a collaborative mock draft. I hope I gave some of you that opportunity. I especially want to thank those who volunteered to represent a team (or teams) other than their favorite team. Without these people, this mock draft would not have been possible. I also want to sincerely apologize for my 2nd Round melt down. Like Tim posted, I had my reasons but a person, who I respect very much, reminded me that I made a commitment and should honor it. And so I came back to finish this up. Most of all . . . I hope you had some fun.
Jaguars 1(29) QB Mason Rudolph - QB of da fucha. 2(29) TE Mike Gesicki - Dynamic TE for now so Bortles thinks he still owns the team. 3(29) OT Tyrell Crosby - New tackle that can go in right away and push Cam Robinson for the left side. 4(29) DL Hercules Mata'afa - Depth inside and out. The team can find where best to use him after some training. 5(21) WR Simmie Cobbs Jr. - Dynamic TE for now so Bortles thinks he still owns the team. 7(29) S Tre Flowers - Safety depth. Get some youth for later. Colts 1(12) SS Derwin James - Pairs up with Malik Hooker for a solid 1st option after trading down. 1(22) LB Leighton Vander Esch - A solid linebacker that can play in coverage and tackle. The Colts have needed one for years. 1(23) WR Courtland Sutton - A big receiver opposite Hilton with Moncrief gone. 2(4) CB Mike Hughes - Colts lost their starters. They need a starting caliber CB opposite 2nd year player Quincy Wilson. 2(26) OL Jamarco Jones - Get Luck some more protection for when he finally comes back. 3(23) DE Ogbonnia Okoronkwo - Colts need help on the edge. At this point I couldn't pass on Okoronkwo, a guy whose complete name I can surprisingly spell without looking it up. 3(32) RB Royce Freeman - A new workhorse for the Colts that should complement Marlon Mack. 7(3) OT Greg Senat - OT project with high upside. 7(38) TE Jordan Akins - He's fighting for TE #3 but I really love the value.
Reposting: Taken in the 1st QB: 5.5 RB: 1.5 WR: 2.5 TE: 0.5 OL: 5.5 EDGE: 4.5 (clarify if you wish) Other LB: 3.5 (clarify if you wish) DT: 3.5 DB: 5.5 LS: 31.5
QB Under RB Over WR Over TE Over OL Under EDGE Under (Zero confidence) LB Under DT Under DB Easy Over
Easy over huh? There are the 3 obvious DBs and then you think at least 3 more easily go? Well with some of the unders you listed I would guess DB is where they are going.
I was thinking the same thing Easily: Minkah Fitzpatrick Derwin James Denzel Ward Probable: Josh Jackson Jaire Alexander Possible: Mike Hughes (might even be probable) Isaiah Oliver Donte Jackson Ronnie Harrison Just need one from that next line...There is a lot of talent in this first round, which could push that entire group into the second round...
You also forgot Justin Reid and I would add Jessie Bates too as well to be safe. But it still doesn't change much. Saying too easy is a bit much but we'll see.
Easily: Minkah Fitzpatrick Derwin James Denzel Ward Josh Jackson Jaire Alexander Most Likely Mike Hughes Isaiah Oliver And due to the premium placed on the position I won’t be shocked if two more slip in in the bottom 7 somewhere. The last couple years I’ve been shocked at how high some fringe talents go. I think some teams overvalue high athleticism at the position. Others just value scheme fit and panic someone will beat them to “their guy”. At 5.5 I’m not hesitating to take the over on DB. I’m much more uncertain about the Edge guys and WRs. First off, edge is a bit vague. And secondly, like I said about CB having a premium placed on it, the same can be said for guys who get after the QB
Easily: Minkah Fitzpatrick Derwin James Denzel Ward Surely 2 of: Josh Jackson Jaire Alexander Mike Hughes Isaiah Oliver Justin Reid Ronnie Harrison But I wonder if a 3rd one can find his way into the round when there are 5/6 QBs bumping the other talent down towards the 2nd round.
Let's play Best Draft, Worst Draft. Thoughts? Ravens 1: QB Sam Darnold - USC 3: RB Kerryon Johnson - Auburn 4: OG Wyatt Teller - Virginia Tech 5: WR Cedrick Wilson - Boise State 6: C Brian Allen - Michigan State 7: TE Tyler Conklin - Central Michigan >>> I traded a lot to move up for Darnold. Then I spent the rest of their draft trying to put talent around him. Tunnel vision focus might have paid off. Only time could prove me right or wrong. Saints 1: CB Jaire Alexander - Louisville 3: TE Ian Thomas - Indiana 4: QB Kyle Lauletta - Richmond 5: DT Trenton Thompson - Georgia 6: OLB Dorian O'Daniel - Clemson 6: CB Greg Stroman - Virginia Tech 6: OG Colby Gossett - Appalachian St. 7: DE Marquis Haynes - Mississippi >>> With the Saints I was aiming superbowl or bust (minus the Lauletta pick. That was for the future). Everyone I grabbed I was after impact player or injury depth. With all said and done, the Saints might be my favorite of the three drafts. Rams 1: G/C Billy Price - Ohio State 3: ILB Uchenna Nwosu - USC 4: OLB Duke Ejiofor - Wake Forest 4: WR DaeSean Hamilton - Penn State 5: RB Chase Edmonds - Fordham 6: ILB Jack Cichy - Wisconsin 6: CB D.J. Reed - Kansas State 6: FS Trayvon Henderson - Hawaii >>> With the Rams I tried to fill needs early. They're a pretty good team, and with all their trades my main goals were some added talent at interior OL and LB. Other than that I just tried for depth/developmental guys.
As others have stated...there are a lot of names that can be added to "my" third tier...I just felt the point had been made. However, because there are so many "other" names that could be included, it also means some teams will feel they will be able to get real value in the second round and choose to take another position that is extremely close rated at their first round pick. The Browns for instance could easily choose Fitzpatrick at #4, but Bradley Chubb AND Saquon Barkley are rated at or above him. Even though DB is probably a bigger need at this point on their roster, one of the other two will more than likely be the choice over DB, dropping Fitz lower...honestly, I have both Fitz and James, along with Ward rated higher than all but one QB. BUT, I see 3, possibly 4 QBs going before the first DB is taken off the board. The sooner the run on DB starts, the more will be taken in round 1. If either safety drops out of the top ten, which I anticipate, and the first CB drops into the mid round...I could see a scenario where only 3 are taken in the first, just based on the other talent available and teams believing they can get that value in the second round, where you might have a record number taken in that round...Like I've said, this is going to be a very fun draft to watch.
I agree that there's a real possibility that only 3 DB's go in rd 1, being Ward, Fitz and James. Though I think Jackson and Alexander are likely...There's always positions where teams are more apt to reach. It's tough to say how many OT's, DT's and DE's get taken. But you can make a case for only 3 DB's coming off, pretty easily.
