Best way to galvanize your fanbase around a sub-par prospect like Darnold? Threaten to draft Josh Allen.
THAT ^^^^^Is so true!!! I just don't want to "pick a safe guy" for the purpose of drafting a QB because we have two high draft picks.... This particular safe guy, imho, will end up with similar production as the guy we just traded for. If that is our goal, then why not just extend Tyrod and roll with him into the future. He's only 28 years old...he could play for another 10 years. I don't believe in Josh Allen..At all...Otherwise, I would champion for him based on his arm...We just jettisoned a player that, imho, was actually a better QB than Allen is or will be. Josh Rosen...I don't have ANY confidence in this player, never have. There wasn't a point where I thought, maybe I just need to KEEP watching more film. He as solid mechanics..it ends there. Hell, his own coach doesn't even believe in him. If Baker Mayfield's demeanor and stature are enough to not want him on the team, because it isn't his QB skills, then I don't want one at all in the top 4 of the draft. There are too many franchise level players in this draft to pass on. Give me Chubb AND Barkley, pair them with Tyrod and let's go win some fucking games.
Just saw that SAS......beat me to the post. Here's what I saw....... Louisville QB Lamar Jackson did not run a 40-yard-dash at his Pro Day. Jackson also skipped the 40 at the Combine. On Thursday, he told NFL Network's Mike Mayock teams will have to rely on his film to see how fast he is. "Game speed is going to tell it all," Jackson said. "You’ve go to catch me first." Jackson declining to run should not seriously affect his draft stock -- as he said, the tape shows he is fast -- but not posting a time is another interesting decision in a pre-draft process the quarterback is navigating without an agent. Along those lines, teams are reportedly having trouble setting up meetings and workouts with Jackson. Source: Pro Football Talk
@Duff_Beer_Doug ... I wonder if these are the same teams that asked him to try out at wide receiver at the Combine. If so, I don't blame him. If not, that's some suspect advice he's receiving.
Blaine Gabbert Height: 6'4" Weight: 234 Arm Length: 33" Hand Size: 10" 40 Yard Dash: 4.61s Vertical Jump: 33 1/2" Broad Jump: 120" 20 Yard Shuttle: 4.26s Wonderlic: 42 College Completion: 60.9 Josh Allen Height: 6'4 7/8" Weight: 237 Arm Length: 33 1/4" Hand Size: 10 1/8" 40 Yard Dash: 4.75s Vertical Jump: 33 1/2" Broad Jump: 119" 20 Yard Shuttle: 4.4s Wonderlic: 37 College Completion: 56.2 Blaine Gabbert was an exponentially more talented QB prospect than Josh Allen. He was so deeply flawed he wasn't drafted until #10 overall and was the third QB taken. The closer we get to the draft and the CAA hype-machine around Allen continues to build, the more inclined I am to say that he'll be the fourth QB off the board and it could happen outside the Top 10.
Huge week. John Dorsey didn't know - or finalize - which QB he wanted in 2017 (Patrick Mahomes) until after meeting with him. Dorsey really, really liked him though. Where have I heard that before? And he's not the only one... Including the legendary Mr. Favre himself...
Ultimately, it will come down (as I've been saying) to Mayfield and Darnold. The right choice, and the safe choice.
In other words, my choices in order: Baker Mayfield, #1 overall Sam Darnold, #4 overall Mason Rudolph, Trade down to #12 Lamar Jackson, Trade down to #22 Second Round Josh Allen Josh Rosen
The same people who like Josh Allen don't seem to like Baker Mayfield. This stems from the same issue: they don't understand the QB position or how to critically evaluate it.
