And the bolded part is why I was upset it was overturned. Murky is not clear indisputable evidence required to overturn calls. Same for the Cooks catch week 3, and Benjamin week 16. They finally decided to follow the replay rules in the SB on the Clement catch and Ertz was clearly a TD.

So did the league use the new catch standard under the old rules during Super Bowl LII?

Goodell referred the question to NFL senior VP of officiating Al Riveron, who was standing next to the commissioner.

"No we did not," Riveron said. "In order for us to overturn a call we had to see clearly indisputable evidence. And there was some slight movement but we didn't see loss of control, we didn't see indisputable evidence that he did not have possession of the football."

So the Broncos move down slightly in the 4th and 5th to get Cravens, a 5th and a conditional 6th.

Cravens was a 2nd round pick 2 years ago and played LB for Washington.

Browns trade Cody Kessler to Jaguars

Blake Bortles has a new backup.

Cody Kessler has been traded from the Browns to the Jaguars, the teams announced.

The trade is for a 2019 conditional seventh-round pick, which basically means the Browns were about to cut Kessler and were glad to get anything for him at all.

As a rookie in 2016, Kessler started eight games and showed some promise. But in 2017 he was passed over for DeShone Kizer, and even when Kizer was benched the Browns went to Kevin Hogan instead of Kessler. Now Kessler gets a fresh start.

Now Kessler and Bortles are the only two quarterbacks under contract in Jacksonville. (PFT)

    Close, but no.
    Skins got the extra picks

Also, and just my opinion...Cravens should have always been a safety. Guys like Mark Barron have muddied these waters a bit

Report: Odell Beckham told two Rams players he wants to play with them

If the Giants trade wide receiver Odell Beckham to the Rams, he’ll be happy about it.

That’s the word from the New York Daily News, which reports that Beckham told two Rams players he wants in.

A key element of a Beckham trade would be an assurance to the team trading for him that he wants to go. Although Beckham can’t block a trade, he has made noises about holding out for a new contract, and any team trading for him would want either to work out a new contract, or at least for Beckham to vow that he’ll show up to work on the last year of his rookie contract while they continue to work toward an extension.

So what would it take for Beckham to become a Ram? It seems unlikely that the Rams would give up two first-round picks, as the Giants are reportedly demanding, but it’s possible they’d give up their first-round pick this year and something more. If Beckham wants to go, the Giants want to build for the future and the Rams want to put together a roster that can win the Super Bowl, that trade could make sense. (PFT)

Chris Doleman fights brain cancer with positive outlook

The tumor removed from Hall of Fame defensive end Chris Doleman’s brain turned out to be cancerous, and the surgery revealed two other tumors currently being treated with radiation. He nevertheless maintains a positive outlook.

“I feel great, man,” Doleman recently told Chris Tomasson of the St. Paul Pioneer Press. “God has blessed me for the last month just waking up every day, one day at a time. That’s how I look at it.”

It’s nevertheless been a difficult couple of months for Doleman, who rose to prominence three decades ago with the Vikings..

“When a doctor tells you that you have brain cancer, it changes your whole world,” Doleman said. “Those are the scariest words that you’ll ever hear in your life. When I first heard it, I was so devastated by it I couldn’t get any words out of my mouth.”

Per Tomasson, Doleman has glioblastoma. In addition to the radiation, Doleman is undergoing chemotherapy.

“We’re working on [the cancer] on a daily basis,” Doleman said. “It can heal, and it can come back. I ask Vikings fans to pray for me on a daily basis. Just one day at a time.”

Vikings fans and all football fans should say a prayer for Doleman. (NBC Sports)

Kendall Wright jumps from Bears to Vikings

Another year, another failed former first-round receiver from the 2012 draft signed by the Vikings.

Last year, the Vikings added Michael Floyd, the 13th overall pick in 2012. He’d been drafted by the Cardinals and traded during his option year to the Patriots. This year, the Vikings have added Kendall Wright.

The 20th pick in 2012, Wright spent five years with the Titans before joining the Bears last year on a one-year deal. On a depleted receiving corps, Wright caught 59 passes for 614 yards and one touchdown in 16 appearances, with four starts.

In 2013, Wright caught 94 passes, generating 1,079 receiving yards. He has 339 career receptions, for 3,858 career yards.

Wright mainly operated out of the slot for the Bears, and the Vikings recently dumped veteran slot receiver Jarius Wright. So the move makes sense.

The Vikings have plenty of question marks on the receiving depth chart behind starters Stefon Diggs and Adam Thielen. Laquon Treadwell, a first-round pick in 2016, has been a bust through two seasons. The rest of the current options are no-names and fringe players. (PFT)

After a promising start in Seattle went south, Thomas Rawls will try to reinvigorate his career by heading east.

Rawls signed with the Jets today, the team announced.

The 24-year-old Rawls signed with the Seahawks as an undrafted rookie in 2015 and had an outstanding first season, rushing for 830 yards on 147 carries and out-performing Marshawn Lynch in the Seahawks’ offense. But Rawls was injured and ineffective for most of the next two years, and the Seahawks decided not to tender him in free agency this year.

Now Rawls joins a Jets backfield that also includes Isaiah Crowell, Bilal Powell and Elijah McGuire. He’s not a lock to make the 53-man roster, but if he could regain his rookie form he’d be a big boost to the Jets’ offense.

Jim Kelly “continues to recover well”

Hall of Fame quarterback Jim Kelly underwent a 12-hour surgery on Wednesday to remove cancer from and to reconstruct portions of his jaw. On Friday, Kelly’s surgeon provided an update on the former Bills quarterback’s progress.

“Mr. Kelly continues to recover well,” Dr. Mark Urken said in a statement, via the Buffalo News. “In addition to his own incredible toughness, he is surrounded by an extraordinarily supportive family.”

The procedure included the removal of a portion of Kelly’s fibula, including soft tissue and blood vessels, for placement in his upper jaw.

Kelly is expected to remain hospitalized for several weeks. We continue to extend best wishes to Kelly and his family for a quick and complete recovery.

Report: Gronk is frustrated with Belichick, but likely to keep playing anyway

Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski acknowledged after the Super Bowl that he needed some time to think about whether he wants to keep playing. It sounds like he does, but it’s still not a sure thing.

Jeff Darlington of ESPN reports that Gronkowski recently told people he is likely to keep playing, but he has seriously considered retiring in part because of lingering frustration with coach Bill Belichick.

Gronkowski has battled injuries throughout his career, most recently a concussion in the AFC Championship Game. But reports have indicated his consideration of retiring may have more to do with being burned out emotionally than anything physical. Gronkowski has said that he saves the money he makes from the Patriots, so he could afford to retire, and he has other options, including acting and pro wrestling.

The report also says that Belichick has had some frustrations with Gronkowski and has questioned whether he’s fully committed to Belichick’s way of doing things.

If Gronkowski wants to keep playing, but not for Belichick, a trade could make sense for all involved. But the Patriots would surely want something significant in return for Gronkowski, and any team trading for him would need an assurance that he’s committed to continuing to play.

If Gronkowski is healthy and ready to go, he remains the best tight end in the NFL. His situation will bear monitoring until we have a definitive answer about his future. (PFT)
