Not when the school covers it up so he can win them a national championship though............

Agree completely. In my comparison Manziel and Mayfield aren't Browns. They are prospects.

And yet that's only one vote on the Beach side of the ledger. Face it Beach, you're stirring the pot here. And you keep hammering it in. Saying it once is a conversation. The repetition makes you, well.........Stopper.

    @Duff_Beer_Doug ,

Would you agree that there was copious amounts of fan enthusiasm for Manziel prior to and immediately following him being drafted by the Browns?

From my perspective,,, the only reason Beach appears to be hammering it is because his point was argued against. I don't think it would have been mentioned again without the denying that it wasn't true.

I don't want to hijack this thread with Johnny Manziel stuff, but I feel like I need to at least weigh in because I was one of - if not the biggest- Manziel supporters on this board.

No one here has anywhere close to the connections and information that NFL front offices do. Does anyone believe if we knew that he had alcohol and drug addictions we'd champion him as the pick?

Johnny Manziel didn't flame out because of his work ethic. He didn't flame out because he was a 6'0" quarterback or played an unconventional style. He didn't flame out because of his celebrity. He had drug and alcohol addiction that got in the way of football and a toxic environment in Cleveland between owner, front office, and coaches exacerbated this issue. Johnny is still the most *talented* quarterback this team has ever drafted.

If you thought "Johnathan Paul Manziel is going to flame out at the next level" for any of the reasons other than drug and alcohol addiction, that's fine. But that's not why he didn't succeed in Cleveland.

Wow... how history repeats itself. From one of my 2014 posts about Johnathan F. Football:

Also my first 2014 Mock Draft... Johnny Manziel, Odell Beckham Jr., Lamarcus Joyner, Chris Borland. Woof.

Well then, you're wrong again, friend.

I love Baker Mayfield *WAY* more than I loved Johnny Manziel.

Johnny: "Hey Myles! Heard you guys were thinking of drafting Darnold or Allen?"

Myles: "Why do you think I'm here scouting you, bruh? Ready to come back to Cleveland?"

On this board last year Johnny was...

"A professional, who despite initial character concerns is praised for his hard work, dedication and love of the game."

All discovered AFTER he became a professional. Prior to becoming a professional bluez asked in here if Johnny can stay out of trouble and the answer (in here) was...

    "He's never been in trouble."

One of the two was arrested for public intoxication, disorderly conduct and fleeing. The other was never arrested.

I have no desire to stir anything up TD but if it makes you feel better to continuing posting that by all means go for it. I'm trying to draw you back to a time when NONE of the things Johnny is known for now were known publicly. It's easy to say there is no comparison because one dish is out of the oven and half-eaten and the other is still being prepared but just 4 years ago that really shitty dish was talked about very similarly to the way you guys are talking about Mayfield.

And as I've said already I agree it would be really hard for Mayfield to become a Manziel. If Baker made it his goal to follow Johnny's footsteps he probably couldn't phuque up his life as bad as Johnny has. But that's not the point. The point is character concerns are real and when you're talking about the leader of your franchise they can't be glossed over by a NFL franchise the way Johnny was and Baker now is being glossed over in here.

So when you guys argue that Mayfield should be the pick in 4 weeks and the Browns are idiots and don't know what they're doing I think you guys should probably consider they have learned their lesson of just 4 years ago and they are going to play it safe.

Oh, absolutely........by some....not all. But again, to continually hammer that point home is rather (to coin a phrase) Stopperish. Sure there was backlash, but the more mature thing to have done would have been to agree to disagree and move the conversation along rather than continuing to dig in the spurs and keep the bronco bucking.

It's funny because Lym and Bluez were in here 4 years ago telling all of you Johnny was a character concern and shouldn't be drafted. I don't believe I've seen any "I told you so's" from them. So I think you're theory is off.

No, I don't think anyone disputed Manziel was championed, only to fall hard from grace due to his addiction that none of us had any idea he had...It STILL doesn't change the fact that Manziel's addiction has absolutely nothing to do with any other player, QB or otherwise, because I can't personally base my opinions on the fact that a player may already have or may fall to an addiction once he becomes a pro. That can happen to ANYONE. Nothing Mayfield has done points to an addiction. THAT was Manziel's problem though, addiction. The fact he was cocky didn't force him out of the league.

One other point, if he can show that his addiction is under control, Manziel will be Back in this league sooner than later.

So, for me, I champion a "safer" pick, that in my personal opinion is just another cog, not a fuel to bringing this team a championship. We have a cog in house now. I don't want Tyrod Taylor's equivalent. I want someone that will force the Browns to not re-sign him. If that player isn't there, and in my opinion Mayfield is the only candidate that shows me those traits, then I would rather re-sign Taylor and get him TWO weapons instead of one, that will help this team moving forward.

Now, I am resigned to the fact a QB will be chosen at #1...if it isn't Mayfield, I'm not going to jump off a bridge, I will hope and pray I am wrong. All I want is to win...Not win 4-6 games...I want to win playoff games. I want to get to the point where winning one playoff game every year isn't enough...That's the feeling I had at the end of the 80's...I haven't had it since and it sucks.

Actually, the concern had a lot more to do with size, style of play, and desire for Blake Bortles.

Because it had a lot more to do with size, style of play, and desire for Blake Bortles.

I consider Lyman and Bluez friends of mine, so I wouldn't have expected it from them...Plus, they have enough class to know when something doesn't even need to be said....Nice try Beach. You cited two Browns fans. smh...

Do you know my father? Any of his brothers? Any of the older gentleman down at the local pub I hang at on occassion? No you don't...So don't act like you know everything. Your theory is off my friend. Trust me on that. For guys like me, that were very vocal about wanting JM, they will never let me forget...

Every fucking time I mention Baker Mayfield as a QB I like in this draft, I hear the Johnny bullshit from some wise ass that doesn't know squat....

    Since it's somewhat topical:

I would rather the Browns sign Johnny Manziel as a back-up to Tyrod Taylor, and draft Saquon Barkley and Tremaine Edmunds at #1 and #4 than draft Sam Darnold or Josh Allen.
