I'm not talking about Johnny as a Brown. Naturally after he was a Brown I would expect a Browns fan to be positive. I was referring to Johnny the prospect, before anyone knew how deeply flawed he was. Some thought the little problems could manifest into bigger things. Others, not just in here defended him and downplayed it much like I see with Mayfield. Maybe he'll be fine or maybe it's indicative of deeper issues.
Four years ago said in here about Johhny Manziel... Manziel is the epitome of "leader on the field". His coaches and teammates follow him no matter what situation they get into through the course of games. He doesn't go to the sidelines and berate teammates, he goes to the sidelines (and in the huddle) and gets them to keep their heads high and play until the last whistle blows. What he has done off the field, and it really isn't very much in reality, should play little in your mind of whether he can be a successful QB in the NFL. Now, if he had failed drug tests or gotten into negligent legal issues, then THAT would be red flags all over the place...He hasn't done those things. He has had pictures taken and posted online of him at parties...I can tell you with an almost certainty, 90% of the kids in this upcoming draft have been to those same parties...They just aren't as intriguing as Manziel so no one ever thinks to take a pic and post it. Or if it does get posted, no one in the national media cares enough to make a spectacle of it. That is my whole point of this bantering back and forth. Manziel has done very little on or off the field to question his leadership on the field. What has happened though has gotten so much play time because he was the Heisman Trophy winner that it seems like a epidemic. It simply isn't the case. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- You guys look at what Johnny became and act like you saw it coming. But you didn't, no one did. There was almost no indication it could get as bad as it did. But there were little issues that gave some people pause because they thought it could fester into something worse. I'm not suggesting Baker Mayfield is going to turn in to Johnny Manziel. Heck, I can't imagine anyone going that far off the rails. But if he only became 25% of what Manziel became he's not a guy you want with the #1 pick.[/quote]
I have an idea, let's get a group of us together and take turns posting something that will piss off the Steelers board and just hijack a thread. It's a little early, but one of us can find a subject and just go over there and talk about it randomly...then another can come on and agree with you...then another come on and reiterate... How about the timeline of all of Roethlisbergers rapes? We can start an entire thread on lobbying to keep him out of the HOF...since his induction is shoddy at best based on rings that he could have never won with any other team, and the rapes on top of that should be a valid reason for him never to be allowed to visit the Hall, let alone be enshrined there.
GD you're such a little girl sometimes. Anyone is welcome here as long as they blow sunshine up your ass. Take the other side of one issue and you're not welcome anymore. Grow up Irish.
Don't even know why I bother, but it's literally the first words on my post: "First of all, that's what a FAN should do. Embrace their team". I am a fan of the team, I don't have to love 1-53 equally. When they picked up Sammie Coats last year I didn't not like him because of the team he used to be on. He was now a part of my team.
I thinks it's unfair to compare anybody to Johnny, and I've said so on this thread a number of times...Mayfield is about the same height, and he has similar on field enthusiasm for the game, and both were linked to the Cleveland Browns......That's where the similarities pretty much end. One is a hard worker that loves the grind and the hours of preperation for gameday, and the other just wants to show up on Sunday and get the glory. Manziel was a raging out of control, woman beating, coke-head, alcoholic that couldn't show up for practice without being drunk. He left his team high and dry so he could go on a weekend Vegas bender, two days before he was scheduled to start.....That's NOT Baker Mayfield. That's not anybody but Johnny. Just because Mayfield grabbed his crotch, doesn't make him Johnny. The only people that are really comparing Mayfield to Manziel, are those that are trying to stir up the Browns fans that happen to think Baker is a good QB...
So now we are at the point where we need to prove that Mayfield will not be Manziel. In that case, I have a pocket sized rainbow colored unicorn. dig through the posts all day long and re-post whatever. Everyone was WANTING Johnny to be the football savior. It wasn't just people on here that saw the possibility. IF he could have gotten over his personal issues that would have been a real possibility. That being said, Mayfield does not have the same issues. He got into "real trouble" 1 time that I have head of, and the other issues are the competitor coming out IN A KID, stuff that will irk the "get off my lawn" crowd. On or off the field, not even close to the same. Mayfield's game is not predicated on running around like a chicken with his head cut off and heaving it to Mike Evans. He has an actual play book and has been praised for his aptitude. Again: Not. Even. Close.
My 2 cents: Beach isn't comparing Manziel to Mayfield. He's comparing the Browns board in their ZEAL for Manziel 4 years ago to their zeal for Mayfield today.
^^^ Yes he is comparing them Lym. Over and over. I don't know wth he's talking about with his take on Browns fans.... Nobody saw it coming. The only people who "acted" as if they did, were the ones that didn't like him to begin with...The dreaded "I told you so's" are still echoing around Cleveland...
And THIS is exactly what gets my panties in a bunch, even if I am a little girl.... Beach, you are coming to our boards for two reasons... 1) To get a conversation going...I.E. argument 2) Because you can't stand half of the Steelers posters and don't even want to post over there anymore....You are bored. I typically respect what you have to say, but these posts you are writing are not conversations about your opinion, they are condescending dribble to get us (possibly just me, because you know you can bait me) to debate you because....You are bored. unrelated: Gideon is a fucking idiot and I don't know why I haven't "ignored" him yet...SAS, you were right, it really is better without stopper around.
I absolutely saw it coming. I argued against drafting him. I reluctantly threw my support behind him once we did. I was right. Less of a prophet, more of a solid judge of character.
Irish, I am not a Brown hater. Not only am I not a hater I am also one of the 50 some thousand fans who showed up to a rally in Pittsburgh in support of Cleveland when Modell took the Browns to Baltimore. I may not always be objective, but I'm actually hoping the Browns turn it around. I miss the Brian Sipe and Bernie Kosar days. Pruitt was one of my favorite players. I am a lifelong Steeler fan. I used to cut school and watch Bradshaw throw passes to Stallworth and Swann thru the centerfield fence at 3 rivers. It doesn't mean I hope Cleveland fails.
You weren't grouped in that post... Beach is always welcome around here as well...He came over to start shit, not give an opinion. Gideon, really is one of the few that really isn't welcome, because that is all he does is start shit. He doesn't have anything intelligent to add to a conversation. He usually is just the "side show" for the one making an argument and egging them on. ALL posters are welcome here, it gets old when there isn't intelligent reasoning for the post from some posters (that doesn't include beach, like I said, he usually does have a valid reason for posting..). Nor am I serious about going over there, I was simply making a point... I read the Steelers board regularly, but I don't typically post shit just to get the natives riled up. I can't say I never have, but there is usually a reason for my post other than just to try to get under a fan base's skin.
The problem is you dont think its intelligent unless its in favor of the Browns or gleaming over every decision they make...if people dont agree w you...they are not intelligent...smh
