on Saturday, I was headed out to lunch. I was at a traffic light for a few minutes and no one is moving. then I see ahead a ton of cop cars and an ambulance. I thought it was an accident. nope. a Police Sergeant died and it was his funeral mass. About 50 cop cars, cop motorcyclist and other cars are waved out of the church parking lot and onto the street I and now 75-100 cars are backed up on. Cops blocking both lanes of traffic. I was sitting there for over 30 min waiting for this procession of cars to come out. I don't mind that. So we move. then everyone has to get in 1 lane as 2 Fire Engines are now blocking 1 lane bc they have their ladders raised and an American flag hanging down from their ladders. Hundreds of people align the streets waving American flags. Keep in mind, I live in this same town and never heard of this cop nor heard when his funeral mass was, yet everyone else did. So I pass the fire engines and go down to avoid this traffic as it's backed up. I go down into another town and come back up to where I'm going. Another town has 2 Fire Engines blocking the street with their ladders raised and an American Flag hanging from it. More cars backed up. More people lining the streets waving flags. This was a different town mind you. Tons of traffic is backed up for miles now. I have no problem letting the funeral procession go ahead of everyone else in our town, but in a different town? I had to be sitting in traffic for over 45 min to go 5 miles. Fire Engines blocking lanes of traffic to raise an American Flag? A fire fighter didn't die, a cop did. I know it's the respect thing, but our town and the Fire Company did that flag thing. So every town does it? It's Saturday afternoon and you have one of the busiest roadways down to 1 lane with no signs telling people that? I never seen anything like this in my life. And the fire engines could've not blocked traffic at all and still hung their flags from their ladders. People in those blocked lanes didn't know the lanes were blocked until they were near the front of the line and could see the roads blocked. No one knew was what going on. No signs up or other cops directing traffic. It was chaos. Then I want to turn into a shopping center. We can turn in from the lane arrow or a green light if no traffic is coming. Due to the funeral procession, which has now passed the shopping center, cars that were waiting to come out of the shopping center are stuck in the middle of the road as cars in both lanes have the right of way and 2 lanes were the funeral procession. No one is letting them in to go and now I'm in a turning lane and can't turn bc cars are in the middle of the road. Cars who have the light green can't turn bc these cars are blocking the road. They got tired of waiting and just blew through their light to go out and merge into traffic. No one is letting them in. Cars are honking behind me to move. I can't move bc 3 cars from the shopping center are trying to cross the road and into the 2 lanes of traffic. Keep in the mind the funeral procession is gone. This was just backed up due to the funeral procession. No cops, no one helping out here. It was madness. I realize I am never turning into the shopping center as now 2 lanes of opposing traffic push forward and are blocked by the 3 cars stuck in the middle of the road. More honking. I swerved out of my turning lane and got back into the 2 lanes of traffic and went down to the next light that had no cars blocking anything. Again, this is 2 towns over from the church the cop had his funeral mass in. So I drove 5 miles and it took me over an hour to go get lunch.
I couldn't turn around Gid. the lanes only go forward with no turnoffs. and if I turned around, I was heading back towards the church where cars that waited there for the funeral procession to go past waited like I did for 30 min. now cars backed up going the opposite way too. if they had signs up of this funeral and traffic being held up for 30-45 min, I would have. that's my point. for something like this, there should've had signs up. I still can't people lining the streets waving flags. I never heard of this cop before and yet people are lined up like the Macy's parade for his funeral procession.
I don't. it's local. I'm heavily taxed. I live in a super pricey area and I can't afford a house as a starter home goes for $260,000 and up. it's insane. I watch sports and the weather. I couldn't tell you who the mayor of my town is, let alone some cop who died.
If you would have watched the local news they would have let you know that the traffic was going to be backed up because of a funeral for a cop.
yeah well me and a mile of cars missed the news. and i live outside of philly, so my news is all philly news. no way they would have this funeral procession on the philly news. im a suburb of philly in a different county.
To be honest, Cat . . . I'm still trying to figure out if you got your gears ground because a cop lost his life and they had a long funeral procession for him complete with fire trucks and American flags - or - that you got stuck in traffic while on your way to get a sammich.
it wasn't just a funeral procession. it was other cops holding up traffic to let out every car in the parking lot onto coming traffic and 2 towns honoring the cop with blocking lanes of traffic and an intersection where everyone went and only 2 lanes had the right of way. it was chaos. all those cops and not 1 to direct traffic at an intersection where everyone was going illegally. that's wrong. on top of i wanted my fucking sandwich and after sitting in traffic at a standstill for 45 min i was hungry.
never. there is no white castle anywhere near where i live. i had it once in college 25 yrs ago. that's how long it took to get the taste out of my mouth. it sucked something awful.
There is one close enough to tempt you when you are stoned. They’re better than a philly cheese steak.
