[sarcasm font = ON] After reading most of this thread, I have come to the conclusion that it doesn't matter who we pick for QB. The front office and/or Hue Jackson will just fuck him up anyway. [sarcasm font = OFF]
This is why you dont have 9 voices in a room....you gather info and the guy in charge makes the decision based on that info....Im not asking ken Zampese who sure isnt known to be some QB guru for his opinion as a GM...Big Ben was good w or w/out Haley so he is irrelevant
Except if Dorsey doesn't want a QB at all, but is told he must take one....Then that QB that he didn't want to begin with is NOT an endorsement of his ability, rather it is an endorsement that ownership should ALWAYS stay out of the way of the professionals they hire. What if it's the HC AND GM wanting Baker Mayfield, but the rest of the room, including the owner saying they want Josh Allen, and those two are overruled? There are too many scenarios to go through..but that's my point. Non-consensus can lead to bad choices. I think I've already proven that may not be the case... I agree on his talent evaluating skills and he has a pretty good track record...as for making the right QB choice? Juries still out... MY choice last year was Watson, whom Dorsey passed on in order to take Mahomes. Mahomes hasn't seen the field yet, but we are about to see if he stacks up to Watson, whom at this point does in fact look like the best of their class. We'll see, it's early...
Irish do you think Dorsey is going to work in an environment where the owner has the final say in draft selections? Because I think the chances of a veteran GM taking or staying in a job like that are slim to none. The instant Haslam demands which QB Dorsey should take a guy like John is resigning.
SMH...where do you think he gets all the info Einstein? It comes from the 9 voices...voices being a metaphor for information.
I think he was hired on the premise that he "finds the QB in this draft". IF given the direction to find it in this class as part of his hire, wouldn't it be prudent of him to take his best shot, which is #1 overall? I didn't say Haslem will dictate which one...I said Dorsey may not be comfortable with one at #1 overall when the dust settles...yet he may need to take one anyway based on the original premise.
Nah, Callahan was the Badgers (which is an anomaly in itself) QB that everyone was in love with all the QB characteristics. He was the perfect QB on paper...BUT, his private life was in question, from passion, to being a solid teammate, etc... I haven't heard Josh Allen being questioned on being a good teammate...Rosen has though.
Im not asking them who they like or who they would select is what I meant....give me your strengths and weaknesses for each QB by April 2..thank you
You heard it from who? A reporter? Analyst? I sure saw his teammates say glowing reviews...instead you like a QB who grabs his balls vs Kansas and yells FU, has words w Georgia players all game and then after a player tells him to grow up...stop w the contradictions
Yes, agree with this 100%. I believe he will identify the QB with the highest ceiling and draft him with the first pick. Don't be surprised if that's Josh Allen. Maybe I misunderstood but that's what I read when you made this statement, "What if it's the HC AND GM wanting Baker Mayfield, but the rest of the room, including the owner saying they want Josh Allen, and those two are overruled?" I don't believe Dorsey agreed to work in an environment where ANYONE will overrule his draft choice. The buck will stop with him or he'll seek employment elsewhere.
John Dorsey is one of the most cocksure (great word) football guys I've ever heard talk. He has supreme confidence in his abilities and probably relishes the challenge of finding a QB to "turn around" the Browns. And here's the deal... Folks who think the team has no talent on the roster: @showstopper Adam "Pac Man" Jones Folks who think there's a good amount of talent on the roster: Literally, every f**king other person out there If Dorsey even finds a guy who the team can carry to wins and not be a turnover machine (read: no Darnold or Allen), this team will get to .500 faster than a lot of folks might suspect. Just re-live 2017 for a moment (I know we'd rather not) with one singular change to the roster... This guy: For this guy: Week 1 Steelers: W Week 2 @ Ravens: W Week 3 @ Colts: W Week 4 Bengals: L Week 5 Jets: W Week 6 @ Texans: L Week 7 Titans: W Week 8 Vikings: L ... Browns are at 5-3 by the BYE week. We had the Lions, Jaguars, Chargers, and Packers all on the ropes and the team quit on Hue/Kizer around the second Baltimore game, so the final three contests probably look differently with the team sitting at 9-4 or 8-5. Now, 2018 is a harder schedule to be sure, so I'm not saying they're going 9+ wins right now... but Tyrod should have this squad at around at least 5-6 victories when all is said and done. If Dorsey views him as the bridge and drafts a guy who isn't a complete turnover machine (Darnold) or massive project (Allen), he can have this squad in the playoff hunt for 2019.
^^^^^ A majority of non-network scouts, analysts, coaches, and college players think Baker Mayfield is the best QB. Many think Lamar Jackson or Josh Rosen would be second. Sam Darnold is a creation of the media (ESPN, NFL Network) and is not good. Josh Allen is a tight end.
Pitt would be SB champs “if” James doesn’t supposedly drop the ball, Ben throws a pick, Shazier doesn’t get hurt, Villanueva doesn’t miss that one block in week 12, Haden Ints that pass that was intended for AJ Green, Haley calls a QB sneak vs Jax....The Tribe is WS champs if there was one more runner on when Davis hit that HR....man playing this game is fun
