After doing one on Brandon Williams, Jernigan simply had to be the next one. This is going to be a two part scenario for me and y'all might remember that I hated how both went. 1st part - Trading Jernigan for nothing more than moving up a few spots in the draft. That draft pick ended up being Chris Wormley, who spent 9 games on the inactive list. The reason I hated this was because Jernigan had the potential to be a dominant player and it was a contract year. You have to let those players play out the year, hopefully ball out for the team, and then if you don't want them you let them sign with someone else and get the higher future comp pick. The team had so many d-lineman that the last two 3rd round picks on the d-line barely saw action on gameday. This was horrible player management to me. 2nd part - Even before the trade, the team picked retaining Brandon Williams over Timmy Jernigan. Some of you may remember that I hated it back when Williams received his contract because I knew Jernigan would walk (surprise surprise, he was traded). My issue here is the same as it was back then. It's a passing league so you MUST prioritize the guy who impacts the passing game over the two down player who stops the run. Especially when Jernigan played the run game much better than Williams played the passing game since Williams is never in during obvious passing plays. Last season, when Michael Pierce and Williams were both in the game, Williams wasn't even at the nose. Their contracts are separated by a 1.5M average per year, and they likely could have gotten Timmy signed for less if they extended him last year. For anyone curious, Jernigan was rated higher in 2017 for his play than any Ravens d-lineman. At the worst case scenario, you keep Timmy until his contract expires. Maybe having one more pass rusher in 2017 changes at least one critical play that led to a loss (see Andy Dalton last minute TD pass that kept Baltimore out of the playoffs) These are just my current and past feelings on it, please share youra
Yeah, y'all made out like bandits on that deal. I don't even think you could have made that deal on Madden
Timmy and Telvin led that FSU defense in 2013....Telvin turned into a complete stud and Timmy is doing his thing on the DL...so much talent on that 2013 team making big time noise in the NFL
